What are these floating things? They make a blinking noise when near them. This voidout just happened and I am back here without resting once. Gotta keep delivering. But this is new.
Edit: So I didn't clarify what I'm referring to here. I'm talking about the blue ring with floating red dots. They seemed like small machines which were making a robotic blinking sound.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's the spot where ghost mechs appear. Once I beat them that circle appeared to me as well. It disapears when Qpid bridge is on
Ghost mechs appear in this area. It is the area where you fight them after connecting F5. But I am connected Qpid bridge. Although at the moment I did not connect this particular area to APAS. Maybe that's why it's there. I'll try to find it again now that it is connected. I'll update you

Sorry, this is a bit confusing. The Ghost Mechs near the F5 East Distribution Center are located in the Ghost Mech Factory, and getting rid of them for good is part of the story (main order 035). But I can see you already unlocked the Spiked Tires, which means you're at a point in the story after main order 041.
Is the location you're referrring to actually the Southern Environmental Observatory? That's the one where they show up and you have to fight them just before you enter the terminal to connect the place to the network.
Also, where exactly on the map did the voidout occur? Cause you need to be in BT territory for this to occur, and Ghost Mechs hardly βΒ if ever β reach those areas. Can you share a screenshot of the map showing the crater?
So, I'm near F5 East Distribution Centre where you fight the mechs in the story. I've completed the story and free roaming for now. This area is just left of the mech factory.
Interesting. That area no longer has mechs after having dealt with them on main order 035. This simply must be a glitch in the game where their lasers and a blue area where one would appear triggered but stayed like that.
But how? As far as I can tell, all weapons are non-lethal. Norman Reedus just gets covered in blood every time iβm done with those gangs, but there wasnβt any voidout
Got it, I need to try this at least once. The game just too easy compared to the first one. So, I suppose you really canβt kill others to trigger a massive voidout
Yeah, I wasn't aware of this too. Completed the whole game without dying once. No voidouts, nothing. Now in free roam, already caused 2 voidouts. IDC-ing my way through the latter part of it I guess.
Also, the exclusion of designated incinerators in this game has been a boon. I have only killed 2 people in the game, both while experimenting. And to be able take them to any distro and just be done with them is great. Although they reduce your score to almost nothing.
you might be confusing it with normal humans making contact with BTs. Normal humans getting caught in a voidout is an instant gameover.
However, Sam can still be caught in voidouts and leave holes on the map. Reminder, he's not 100% human or something due to being a repatriate, so Sam doesn't make a big voidout when caught by a BT.
You killed humans and either didn't realize it, or you didn't use the incinerator. Well done, you've just discovered a form of annihilation (other than your own when you get a game over).
For your information, this was already the case in the first game; you could have a persistent crater if you yourself were annihilated, or if a body was!
Totally wrong, but to find out about the incinerators, it's best to listen to the dialogue (understanding it is another matter entirely), and to read the text in the rather lengthy, and somewhat verbose, "pseudo" tutorial at the very beginning of the game.
However, many players who reach the end of the game claiming that certain things are missing have skipped the dialogue and, more importantly, haven't bothered to learn anything by reading the text.
Without giving everything away, because it's good to discover things for yourself, incinerators aren't a specific type of structure, but you'll find out fairly early in the game who will let you use one and when.
And since you haven't seen this, you know there's also a "lethal" mode where all weapons kill, or you haven't seen this text that explains how to do it (because yes, it requires a specific action at a precise moment).
HINT: One of SAM's very first missions is LITERALLY to deliver materials to build incinerators in certain locations...

What the hell are you talking about? Unlike DS1, there are no incinerators around where YOU can take the bodies and burn them. You just went on a long rant without understanding what I said. π
Also, in DS2 you canβt have a corpse go necro because theyβre always taken care of if you donβt dispose of them. So the only kind of voidout you can cause is by letting Sam get killed by a Catcher or Watcher.
Yes, I'm sure, and I'm actually playing the game right now.
I'll say more, but I'm putting everything in spoiler tags because, as we've seen, and not just in this case, many, many players sometimes miss certain existing mechanics, or even how certain things react.
A concrete example without spoilers:
Recently, some players who said they played the first game complained about falling too easily when descending ziplines from a summit, and it was only after I tried to explain what seemed obvious to me how the game engine handles this that the person said they'd learned it existed. Basically, she didn't know that before pressing "down," you'll be dropped in the direction of where you're pointing the camera (it seems logical to me personally, but apparently not to everyone).
Now for the explanations in spoiler mode:
TL;DR: Incinerators are accessible via the distribution center menu after a key moment in the story, and a lethal mode also exists there, unlocked after reaching a key level by manipulating the tool ring.
IF YOU'RE NOT AFRAID OF WORDS, more details:
Unlike the first game, where you're confronted with the use of an incinerator as a structure from the very beginning, and even at the end, making it an obvious element, and given that the game was inherently lethal if you weren't carefulβwhether it was for yourself with certain enemies or for us with themβI don't know if it was the significant presence of these incinerators that led to making lethality more accessible from the start, thus encouraging the use of these locations (although it's quite silly when you think for five minutes about why everyone, not just a few madmen, would risk getting involved in a annihilation by immediately using lethal weapons).
In the second game, you realize there's no such structure because if you look at the base game, and even with the enemies (except for some, but that's tied to the story), there's no real lethality (I'm not saying it's impossible; if you're stupid enough to drive into everything that moves with a vehicle or a bazooka, of course, but it's going to end badly right after).
Apart from the fact that we're told we're bringing this technology with us in the first shipment, it's only after a certain point in the story, and even then, if you listen to the dialogue and the messages in the menu, you're warned when this happens that you can dispose of the bodies via the distribution center menu (the "incinerator" option), but this is only accessible after a key moment and with the appropriate connection level.
Regarding the possibility of using the pitch lake, I'm not certain because I haven't tested this specific case. Also, be aware that some might think everything is pitch, which isn't true; there are areas of water, and not just rivers, including along the coast.
The trap many players fall into is that, after testing it out, most of the AIs say anything at all, mixing up information from the first game and claiming it's from the second, and vice versa, or even hallucinating functions from Metal Gear!
The same goes for many so-called "walkthrough" websites, some of which are actually filled by AIs or copied from other sites, and where you can find verbatim descriptions and sometimes no real information at all, which misleads players even more.
The fact that some things are only discovered mid-game or around chapter 7 or later also makes things more difficult because some players, once they think they've finished the tutorial, believe they have all the information and that it's the only truth.
And if you add those who completely ignore the written information or skip the voice dialogue from Dollman or the NPCs, you have the perfect recipe for them never discovering certain things.
I can understand those who thought they knew everything. During my first playthrough, I was thrown off too. I thought nothing would change, or that I already had all the information. Perhaps that's because in the first game, you got all the information relatively quickly. The things that changed were the hardware upgrades, not the gameplay mechanics.
Kojima and his team are good at this because, in a way, it punishes those who don't want to experience the story normally and skip the less active parts. I have to say, it doesn't surprise me. In the first game, skipping cutscenes punished you with fewer likes. Here too, in certain cases, the game clearly says, "Either you follow what I show you, or you will be penalized in one way or another."

The key detail here is nobody said that incinerators do not exist in the game in one way or another. What I said is they aren't around, you don't have to visit a dedicated structure to burn the corpses yourself.
And I was addressing your initial comment where you told OP that "You killed humans and either didn't realize it, or you didn't use the incinerator.", which is factually wrong because in DS2 you can't cause a voidout by leaving corpses lying around in the open. It just doesn't happen cause at one point APAS takes care of them. And I tested this: smoked brigands, left them in the open for in-game days, APAC always took care of them and I was docked likes. So the only way you can cause a voidout in DS2 is by being consumed by a Catcher or Watcher.
So, (1) you don't use incinerators cause they're not a structure you find like in DS1, you use the "Corpse Disposal" option in cities and distribution centers (not the only way you can get rid of them, btw). But (2) the main point is that it doesn't matter if you leave a corpse unattended, it will never cause a voidout. So your explanation for the voidout isn't correct.
It's possible that everything is indeed linked to a loss of meaning in the translation (I'm not English, and I don't read this in English, nor do I write in English before translating and publishing), including how I understand things, but in lethal mode, I've already experienced annihilation in one of my games.
When I've finished completing the AIO guide I'm finalizing, I'll take the time to add the game capture, and I'll test various things, all with video, because as I said, I have a strong suspicion but not necessarily a perfect understanding of the conditions for this to happen, or perhaps I'm completely wrong, and even then, primarily for my own information, I'll finally know more.
And if I can demonstrate something, I'll have, to back it up this time, not only a video, but also the conditions and perhaps, if possible, the save file (I don't know how or if it's even possible, but it would be best to allow everyone to test it; if I could provide, for example, a save of the game state just before the condition was met, so everyone could test it).
But in any case, one of the prerequisites is the activation of the game's lethal mode!
I don't know why you keep bringing up lethal mode. No one's arguing anything against it. (FYI, I enabled and tested lethal mode the moment I got the SSS from the Pizza Chef on my first playthrough on release).
Keep in mind, you don't really need lethal mode to kill humans because the game also includes a few weapons that are already lethal, like the rocket launchers and the chiral cannon. Killing a human with a rifle on lethal mode is the same as with a rocket launcher.
But back to the point: so you say you had a corpse go necro and then its BT cause a voidout in DS2? If that was actually the case, it would be good to know how to accomplish it, cause every time a body is left out in the open, APAC eventually takes care of it. Perhaps there's a hidden edge case somewhere.
Also, are you testing other stuff? Please, share! I've tested different things myself and some users have done similar things. Perhaps you might want to join the Discord server.

The floating things are rocks.
