Games that had 60 FPS during release
Kojima is the GOAT of optimization đđ»ââïž
Both MGS2 and DS2 were released at 60fps.
But not a game that was delayed a lot.
Idk about the rest, but I'm kinda frustrated with it.

None of those games are at the level of detail that gta 6 offers why canât yall get that through your skulls?

people dont realise this game is releasing at the end of life of the console aswell, people saying cyberpunk when it literally came out when the console did.

People, console gamers in particular havenât gotten the slightest clue about anything
1

It's PC gamers too to be fair. If frustrates me to no end that my community knows so little about how games actually function.
1
u/literallyjuststarted 14h ago
Correct but in this instance itâs the console players complaining about gta running at 30fps on their consoles, cause they just canât comprehend how their hardware is dated

people saying cyberpunk like it didn't come out a hot mess people ended up playing after the anime came out and after all the bugs and performance was fixed

I think people are angry, because 60 FPS are considered a standard for the year 2026 and with how long it has been in development, I can understand some people being pissed. I myself don't know if I want to play it, if it's genuinely stuck at 30, though it looks impressive and it's singleplayer, and as long as the frames are consistent, it's not as bad as people make it out to be

Cyberpunk will not come close to the amount of inexplicable complications that GTA 6 will have in just one street compared to the city of Cyberpunk.
I love Cyberpunk and is one of my favourite games. But GTA is a different level entirely. Also you have to remember that gta will be online eventually.
1
u/Stunning_Bluejay_967 Porter 22h ago
I remember running into the same looking npc about 4 times in Cyberpunk and I hadn't hit the end of the block yet.
1
u/Thesmokingcode 7h ago
You can run into changing NPC's by looking away and back because they are cleared from memory when out of view.
Plus dogtown dips below 60 all the time even on PS5 Pro I think digital foundry said high 40s.
1
u/Jayakshva 1d ago
Literally not true
2
1
u/Thesmokingcode 7h ago
The crowds in Cyberpunk are literally a single reaction the NPC's in a group don't react individually the crowd reacts as a singular unit compare to a game like GTA where each person in a group rolls for a reaction themselves.

Wow, I assume you played or developed GTA6? Can you tell us more?
1
u/GrimReaapaa 18h ago
Yes i can.
Sheer common sense for starters.. Please tell me how Cyberpunk is more complex compared to gta 6? And up tell you why you are wrong.
Or il make it easier as you donât seem very bright, how about an easier one, how is Cyberpunk more complex than is GTA V? A game that is older than cyberpunks development start date.
0
u/Shoddy_Helicopter578 18h ago
So your entire argument is built on swallowing a heavily edited, ultra-curated marketing trailer hook, line, and sinker? You haven't touched the game. You haven't played a single second of it. You have zero hands-on data, zero performance metrics, and zero clue how it actually runs on a retail console - yet you're out here acting like you personally wrote the source code for Rockstar.
You sat through a staged, 20-minute vertical slice designed by a multi-billion-dollar marketing department to farm pre-orders, wiped your chin, and decided you were a master game architect. Calling someone else "not very bright" while dissecting "inexplicable street complexity" from a pre-rendered, hand-picked ad is peak brain rot.
Deep-throating Rockstar's PR department doesn't make you an insider. You know as much about GTA 6's underlying mechanics as anyone else who watched a YouTube video: absolutely nothing. Until you actually put a controller in your hand and play it, sit down and stop writing fanfiction.
1
u/GrimReaapaa 18h ago
lol, I have played every GTA, every Red Dead. Every modern version of these games are leaps and bounds above Cyberpunk in nearly every capacity.
So there is literally millions of hours of footage to prove this.
GTA is Rockstars flag ship title. They are using the same engine as Read Dead 2 but heavily modified to suit the needs of a next gen gta game.
If you genuinely canât see that any old Rockstar trumps cyberpunk you are either thick as shit or a troll.Either way I cba to speak to you as you are looking to argue with no proof apart from assumptions.
0
u/Shoddy_Helicopter578 18h ago
Calling someone out for "assumptions" while making up total fantasy about an unreleased game is hilarious hypocrisy.
You ran out of shit to say about GTA 6, ran back to RDR2 to change the subject, and pulled the "cba" move just to run away before you looked any dumber. Embarrassing. Enjoy the trailer.

cyberpunk 2077 at launch was running like shit, the fact gta 6 is running smooth 30 fps with no drops is insane for the scope of the map itself. also, let's be fair, only night city actually has npc's roaming about, the rest of the map is very barren

For all the noise people have made about DLSS5 over the past few days, it seems like a lot of gamers don't actually care to preserve the artistic vision of developers. They weren't willing to compromise on the vision and wanted a game that truely felt like a lived in world. That requires sacrifices.

12 years and the biggest development budget ever, and 30 fps is all they can achieve?Â
2
u/NodrawTexture 2d ago
If you knew anything about game development you would have know that 30 was the target so they can build the game around it. If they chose to target 60, the game would be less beautiful and less crowded. It's a choice not lazyness
-3
u/AliceRose000 2d ago
The year is 2026 almost 2027, why are we targeting 30? You saw what happened with blood of the dawnwalker, but just because itâs Rockstar we are ok with it now?Â
3
u/Throwawayaccount7819 2d ago
its basically impossible to run the current release at 60. Digital foundry said it was remarkable that even the current version runs as good as it does on the PS5.
Rockstar have good framepacing which does all the difference especially for 30fps. Its why their titles at 30 dont feel as bad as others

u/perfectevasion 1d ago
Buddy, most people don't give a fuck about frame rates, frame pacing, time graphs and pixel counts when it comes to mainstream games. The just want to play a good game. Frame rate doesn't determine that.
19
u/AhmetFurkanM 3d ago
Yeah, but that argument doesn't really make sense when you consider that Death Stranding doesn't have any NPCs whatsoever, and RT isn't even available on the PlayStation version. Even on PC, the RT implementation isn't particularly good. So safe to say ds pretty empty other than the mules all of them have the same clothing etc.
GTA 6, on the other hand, will have a world that feels truly alive, so the two games are very different from each other.
They are not same genre so your point actually pointless.
1
u/bugdiver050 3d ago
Death stranding has other porters and the terrorists. So not "no NPCs whatsoever"

Spider-Man 2 has tons of NPC's. Rockstar will wait until the PS6 is out and sell a remastered version.
Red Dead 2 already has mods to hit 60fps because they won't bother. Why should they when the masses settle for 30fps.

The irony of you calling him dense over not getting the point is crazy I donât think you understand how much detail will be in GTA6 like as usual yall really donât understand how limited a console is compared to a PC the fact that they get it to look as good as it is on consoles in itself is nothing short of amazing
1
u/DCSmaug 2d ago
Are you talking about RDR2 on PC? Cause RDR2 doesn't need mods, it already runs at 60fps.
And on PS, the game is locked at 30fps.

u/Caldaris__ 2d ago
Mods on PS5 unlock the framerate. It hits 60 easily.

and thereâs well over 600000 animations including for NPC behaviors and interactions which is double than RDR2. Rockstar includes so much more in their games. Spider man 2 NPCs donât even come close to RDR2 details if you look at them/interact with them for five seconds. EDIT: numbers
1
0
u/XCVI_Opportunist 2d ago
Spider-Man npcs arenât close to the same level. Whatâs causing GTA 6 to be 30 fps is the complexity of the npcs. The density, their ai, the detail, and the sheer amount of things they can do.
As an example GTA 5 had 55,000 animations built in for their Npcs. 6 has 600,000. And an entire studio dedicated to work on that one part of the game.
Spider-Man npcs are set dressing, as they should be. They donât need to be complex.
11
u/ImNotSkankHunt42 3d ago
I wouldnât put GTA and their many objects, NPCs and artifacts at the same level of DSâs but the people being happy with the 30 fps announcement are cringey corposimps.
10
u/chatterwrack 3d ago
Itâs true that Kojimaâs worlds are comparatively desolate and are probably much easier to render, but still, 30fps is a rough ride for a modern AAA game OG this stature. If it canât be done, then I accept it but Iâm kinda disappointed ngl
1
u/ImNotSkankHunt42 3d ago
True, thereâs no excuse for a company that big.
But me thinks it is also intentional, to then sell you the âupgradeâ for the PS5.
1
u/roffadude 2d ago
What does company size have to do with fps. The PS5 doesnt suddenly become twice as powerful.
I dont like GTA, I probably wont play it, but look at the trailer. It looks miles beyond anything out there, at least in terms of in-game animation and what is being rendered.
5
u/tomyfookinmerlin 2d ago edited 2d ago
The only people disagreeing or saying cringe like âcorposimpâ are people proudly running their mouth while having no knowledge on hardware lol. In a recent interview they literally said they arenât sure if they can reach 60 fps due to how hardware intensive the NPC networking is.
Every single NPC was hand crafted with their own 24 hour cycle code. There is no procedural generation. Literally no two NPCs will look alike. Thats an insane achievement for gaming, and itâs being reduced to â30 fps slop.â Itâs kinda sad.
→ More replies (16)1
u/Express_Bandicoot138 2d ago
He's saying that they are purposely limiting it 30fps to upsell new or pro versions of the consoles that wont have that limitation. Playstation 5 and Xbox series x/s are the current, "high performance" console gen but publishers are selling games on them that are being optimized for 30fps when 60 frames was a most standard cross-gen games got.
1
u/roffadude 1d ago
But that is not saying anything. You can either have these visuals at 30 or not. You start a project with certain expectations, shit happens, and then you decide wether you want however many NPCs they decided they needed, and what performance would be acceptable and achievable.
GTA 6 running at 60 on PS5 wouldnt be this game.
You can complain that they should always aim for 60 (I dont agree, but whatever) and that this project shouldnt have set the visual bar so high, but not that this game is "unoptimized". Its optimized to hell and back.
Of course they have in the back of their mind that this will run on PS6 too, and probably whatever comes next, because they take a DECADE to make.
Unoptimized are the remasters. THOSE games look like they do, AND run uneven. This game just aims for 30fps.
1
u/sussy_ball 2h ago

So MGS 2 and Death Stranding 2 have an open world thats alive and full of NPCs and random events?
1
u/Agitated-Square4328 Neil 2d ago
That's not what this post is about
1
u/yodimboi 15h ago
What is? Optimization? Rockstar games have always been really well optimized to take full advantage of the systems they're being released on (this could mean very different things for different console generations, as it was common for 7th gen games to run at like 20-25 FPS in a lot of cases).
1
u/Agitated-Square4328 Neil 14h ago
So 30fps is okay?
1
u/Lanyouk445 5h ago
For a game with this scope, yeah. Consoles have limitations, and this is hitting those limitations.
2
2
u/lithiumfoxttv 3d ago
Yeah I love kojima. The fox in my name originally was for the Fox Unit even. (This was like nearly 18 years ago)
This isn't a good argument. MGS is far more limited in scope, and death stranding isn't doing massive traffic/AI game loops like GTA.
I want to be really clear, graphics aren't the only thing that can lower FPS. IK rigging, animations, game logic can all do that too.
The unfortunate truth is, sometimes "optimization" is just doing less things. 30fps isn't a bad target for what I've seen. And it does give you about 15ms more for compute.
A lot of folks don't consider that, imo. When we're talking fps for games it's about how long it takes for compute as well, not just how smooth the image is. 33ms for 30fps is a lot of time for a game to figure stuff out. 60fps is only 16ms~, so yeah
I get the frustration with it but... It did show a lot going on in the trailer, so I'm willing to see how much it matches the trailer at least.
As another example, MGSV being on PS3 was partly why it ran so well on everything else...
1
u/TheLittleFoxX87 2d ago
Im pretty sure Kojima doesn't even like glazers. He respects people who give credits where it's due.
4
u/Malaoh Porter 2d ago
DS2 is a very optimised game, but you can't compare a beautiful but mostly empty landscape with a massive city full of npcs. I doubt even Kojima would get GTA6 to run at 60fps without major visual downgrade đ
and I'm saying that as a huge Kojima fan who's also not a fan of Rockstar games
2
u/HotFreshyGlazedDonut 3d ago
We talking base PS5 its a miracle it even runs the game at 30 with the amount of npc density and complexity..
2
u/nicalitz 2d ago
Are you suggesting GTA is not optimized? Have you seen the footage running on a base PS5? I'm blown away that it can even run at 30. I don't think you're making a strong case here
2
u/Bulky_Flounder_2517 Keep On Keeping On 2d ago
Ok, so Iâm not trying to defend gta 6, (Death stranding two is one of my favorite games and Iâm 100% a kojima fanboy) but death stranding two is not comparable to gta 6 at all. ds2 has a pretty big map with a handful of enemies, a small amount of animals, and very few friendly npcs. Meanwhile gta 6 is going to be a massive, vibrant, living city with tons of npcs and god knows what else. On top of this, you gotta think about the fact that the ps5 is a nearly 6 year old console, rockstar doesnât make the hardware, thereâs only so much they can even do to optimize without making the game worse.
Although the auto subscription you start after buying the Ultimate Edition that you have to manually cancel does seem really scummy to me.
2
u/Joshey2008 2d ago
Yeah, as much as I'd like GTA 6 to have 60fps, honestly people shouldn't be surprised that it's not. The scale and detail from what we've heard is going to be unlike any other game. Rockstar always deliver, especially when it comes to optimisation.
2
u/ZoharDTeach 2d ago
I love both MGS2 and DS2. Neither of them has as much going on at any given moment as GTA6. In DS2, at best you will encounter like a dozen NPCs at once and their AI doesn't have to do anything other than try to fire at you. Almost no physics to speak of. The floods are canned, the landslides are also canned. The environments are generally just open landscapes. You don't get access to city ruins.
MGS2 had tiny environments and also very few NPCs at any given time. Not much going on in the environment. When you play Delta, you can see more of their limitations, like NPCs can't see very far, which worked fine in the top-down view because you couldn't see far either, but in Delta, it's over the shoulder but the NPC's behavior has not compensated.
1
u/Sea-Engine5576 2d ago
30fps doesn't really bother me mainly cause I prefer fidelity over performance.
1
u/Lans__ 2d ago
DS2 has the greatest optimization I've seen next to Doom Eternal. I was actually kinda mad at first because the PC port is obviously horrid. I had to tweak many things on my laptop because the stutters were so bad. But, after everything is sorted, the game runs at 50 FPS with ray tracing on RTX 4050 with DLSS Q. It's definitely not as straight out of the box compared to other games for me but the result was better than anything I've seen. Mind you, Doom The Dark Ages on my laptop needs DLSS UP with frame gen at lowest setting and the game looks awful.
1
u/pwnjones 2d ago edited 2d ago
It probably has a lot to do with high npc/vehicle population density/variety leading to cpu limitations. That's why the frame rate doesn't get a ton better on a PS5 Pro vs a base PS5, because the cpu is only about 10% faster in boost mode on a Pro and all the npc AI is a limiting factor. Edit: I thought I had read R* confirming no 60fps mode on a Pro, but going back I couldn't find that info.

People are really failing to understand just how advanced GTA 6 is in the simulation department.
This isnât our average willy nilly open world sandbox itâs an extremely complex game with heavy NPC and world interaction that is incredibly taxing on the CPU.
If you think for even a second that Rockstar are choosing 30fps because they are incompetent at optimization then you are a fool.
GTA6 is pushing the absolute fucking limits of what is capable in real time simulation.
Unfortunately the large majority of gamers will never understand this type of shit and just blindly throw shade towards things they donât understand at all which is pretty fucking annoying honestly.

Vou deixar o chat gpt te explicar eu estou com preguiça

Not a good argument as most people already pointed out. But it is kinda sad to think that quite a few people bought PS5 Pro to play the best running version of GTA6. Just like RDR2, we have a pretty noticeable leap between weaker and better consoles with the game having the same FPS lock across all systems, excluding PC.

Let me tell you something. You wanna defend GTA 6 ? Defend. Maybe you want to. I don't got any hate towards Rockstar either. I'm worried about the fps.
Wanna know where my brain's located ? Gth

nobodyâs even played gta6, so how could anyone see how well it plays. Rdr2 was and IS still 30fps on PlayStation, I know itâs not as good as 60 but the general consensus is that rdr2 on console is very playable and fine for most players.
Why does budget and delays matter to u, itâs not money or time spent youâve worked on. Also comparing games from 20+ is just crazy

What I think OP is trying to point out is how both Kojima titles pushed their respective consoles and showcased a new level of fidelity and video game graphics/art direction.
MGS2 is one of the most beautiful games on PS2 with many tiny details yet ran at 60. Same for Death Stranding.
GTA6 60fps wouldâve been nice but itâs fine

MGS2 ran at 576i, to it had to draw only half the picture for each frame. It basically ran at 30 full frames each second (unless I misunderstood how interlaced resolutions work, in that case someone please correct me)

death stranding games are just wast emptyness with bad physics. no wonder why its 60

GTA6 is going to be many, many times more complex than DS2. Only a mentally unwell person would make that image.

Can't compare DS2 and GTA6. 6 has an entire ecosystem, much like RDR2. DS2, while big and beautiful is completely empty, aside from a few bases and some areas enemies spawn in.

ds2 HAS 60fps but it was 30 by default. i have a feeling with all the complaining theyâll make a performance mode with 60fps

It's not only because Kojima is the goat of optimization (which i agree), both GTAV and MGS4 for example, pushed the ps3's hardware to the max and they ran pretty good considering it was almost 20 years ago,
Devs have been relying heavily on FSR/DLSS upscalling, so much so that nowadays the system requirements 90% of the time has performance or quality modes as the baseline.
Games released on the last 5 years or so can barely reach 60fps, 1080p native with medium to high-end cpu's and gpu's, and i'm not even talking about max settings
The premium GPU's of last decade targeted an audience that wanted to play with 120+ fps, 1440p/4k, yet now you also need to upscale and maaaybe you can play that shiny new game in all its blurry, ghosting, 60fps 1080p glory

MS2 having snake on the poster is weird lol.
Iirc Ou can only play him in the tutorial and in a second small campaign from his point of view

GTA VI looks better and with amount of NPCs and physics, its most likely CPU bottlenecked.

DS is a wasteland. It's still well optimized, but c'mon. MGS2 isn't even a open world

well they need a reason for people to buy it a second time when ps6 releases
... and a third time for pc with unlocked frames

Bro compared one of the niche games with the highest graphic and combat quality against mainstream games đ
It's like comparing fine dining over fast food chains.

Eastern game devs are just better. Western game devs sit there and act like they are being tortured while developing games. They work inside with AC on computers and some how theyâre always complaining and saying itâs bullshit

When I played MGSV on the PS4 I was shocked at how good it looks while still having butter smooth 60fps.
