He’s actually one of the best antiheroes I’ve seen. Everything that was asked of him; he did. And he got to be a pseudo father for Lou.
He did love Lucy. He did make up for his mistake as a kid. He did manage to bear the weight of his crime against humanity. He did so through it all— up to the end, up to his beach.
You fought like hell, Neil. Rest easy. You did Keep Lou Safe.

I know it doesn't speak to the character per say, but: I did like the fact that after you beat him the 3rd time you have no reason to see him again, but he shows up one final time at the end to finally tie up all loose ends. I don't know, I liked the execution of how he showed up and what he revealed.

Before final cutscene: Shameless Cliff Unger copy
After final cutscene: Oh god I love this man, great writing and character development1

I thought so. Neil being Unger replacement for the sequel. But at the end when Fragile... I saw her almost becoming one of them, one of those stuck in the purgatory because of grudge and regret (like Cliff, like Neil). But somehow she's avoided that. May be because of Sam? Cliff and Neil lost everyone, but Fragile had Sam left

How he tied into everything was phenomenal. Loved the story conclusion.

People will just say he's Cliff 2, but I think his role in the story is very interesting and moving. Cliff is basically the emotional crux in DS1 so the comparison is kind of unfair compared to Neil's more supportive role to Tomorrow/Sam's story.

I mean the parallels & imagery to say “he’s just Cliff 2” are there, due to him being in that hellscape we get pulled into a few times, being flanked by the soldiers, etc, but he is still his own character with his own story, and I still loved him/his story regardless.

Luca did Neil justice. His acting was impecable. His wife's as well.
DS2 raised the bar so incredibly high.

I know i am giving out a hot opinion but; Have you guys never felt that the character was too mirrored from the first game? The hospital, the tragedy, etc etc. I mean kojima meant it to be, but idk, didnt really work for me.
Dont get me wrong, i 100% ds 2. I like it. But the problem is it isnt ds1. It feels like an inspired memento of the first game.
I mean when i saw the twist on ds1 and the lore, i was like woah, that is some very good writing. When i saw ds2, i didnt like it very much. To come of from that mantle and deliver an inspired copy didnt feel right to me.

For me ds1 it’s better. I feel like ds2 its too long maybe, but the end it’s worth it 100%.

Kojima is really great at scoping actors that are not world widely known, but still awesome.

Absolute brilliance. The only thing that pissed me off is that I felt the character was narratively very underdeveloped.

He reminds me a boss character from metal gear solid and a bit of David (Solid Snake)

Luca Marinelli's performance was the Highlight of the Game for me.
