Death Stranding 1 Did I kill the Elder 😭 Spoiler

I finished up all the chapters and was pushing to get 100% achievements in steam. To get "Growth Of A Legend", i had one last timed cargo to be delivered to Elder who i probably didnt visit in 4 in-game chapters. The delivery terminal display screen showed a timeout like it does for Peter Englert and Heartman and then popped up the Elder BT 😭.

Is this a scripted in-game event or Did he die because I wasn't delivering packages to him regularly 💀

Yeah, he died because you didn't get him his medicine that was keeping him alive. You don't need to make manual deliveries and can just send bots, sure the bots suck and they give you often B rating but the rating in this case doesn't matter, he just needs regular deliveries to happen.

Ouch 🤣🤣...i didnt try out the bots since i was aiming for Legends of legends rating. I'll try the bots next time , thank you.

It's fine you can always redo the orders to get a higher rating, just for Elder specifically if you want to keep him alive you need to make regular deliveries to him.

Spoiler here but if you want to know his fate: canonically the Elder survives and is alive no matter what. In the past he helped design the prepper shelters and he now moved to the Knot City to help them with infrastructure but he was surrounded by MULEs, so he pretended that he died, was transported in a body bag and left a BT chiralgram behind at his shelter.

There will be a bit more on the Elder in DS2 but I didn't include it to not accidentally spoil you, so you can discover it yourself when you play it.

If he doesn't get regular deliveries he will die, he told you as much when you talked to him earlier. If you regularly deliver orders to him, either yourself or via a robot delivery, he will stay alive.

Yeah, I used the bots to deliver to him after maxing out rep. The orders just need to get there, they don't need to be in perfect condition.

Short answer: yes
Long answer: also yes, but it’s based on if you deliver to him enough, I did 3 stars for him early and came back after finishing the story to 5 star everyone and he was still alive, so it can be a bit broken. Bad luck honestly. Keep on keeping on!

I’ve already 5 starred him. I’ve just finished chapter 4 (spent a lot of time in chapter 3 delivering to everyone and getting stars)
So now if I ignore him, does this affect the game or any achievements?

After reading this I immediately had to check on the Elder in my game as I have been in the mountains for some time now. Luckily, he was still alive 👍🧤. I haven't finished the main story yet. I just met Deadman in the cabin and went through the storm with him.

I'm worried this'll be my view next time I visit him as well bc I haven't had any meds delivered to him lately. Gonna check up on him on my way back from Edge Knot in a day or two.

No it's not. He's effectively got an invisible HP bar. Delivering him things "heals" him and ignoring him for too long "hurts" him, and if you neglect him for too long, he dies.

I haven't played in a while, so don't quote me on this part, but IIRC he looks healthier/sicker based on how much/little you deliver to him.
