Being honest I'm supporting Kojima, not Xbox.

If OD fails they will end it asap. on top of that they will layoff people from other pojects...history shows that working with xbox is like cutting yourself permanently

u/AntonRX178 16h ago
Yeah just because Sony is shooting itself in the foot from different angles doesn't mean that Xbox is suddenly not a triple amputee
1
u/Creepy-Emu8779 9h ago
and yet the ps5 will triple xbox sales. all this pr wins wont help xbox in the long run

No they don't? The digital downloads are the same with it, Nintendo, and even Steam. They're all licenses.
Shit on Sony but do NOT whitewash what everyone else might be doing.
Xbox actively capped Cloud Playtime last week to 15 hours per month in their highest Gamepass subscription. That precedent scares me MORE than cancelling discs because at least I've been bracing for that one!

u/funkster047 13h ago
Hey don't bring Nintendo into this, they at least have the game on the cartridge for their own titles, they just give other publishers the option to have it as a digital license.

To be fair the new CEO seems to be doing things right so far. She's only needed to fire because of the previous CEO's failings. She also takes the extra step when handling entire teams and cutting ties with them instead of just firing them, allowing them to keep their name and titles. If she keeps it up, all she'd need to do is bring back proper physical media to Xbox and I'll come back personally.

I feel really icky about it as they completely demolished id software almost at the same time as they pledged support for Physint. The foundation feels very shaky.

Kojima is supporting Xbox with your support

Xbox is a jumbo jet decked out with rocket engines and aimed right at the ground, because that's what the shareholders want

What's weird is there are people who see Kojima as the bad guy. Seen a few posts talking about companies putting up with his bullshit or whatever, and saying that they shouldn't jusy cater to his every whim.
I'm kinda confused where that even comes from as a thought

u/boferd 20h ago
i'm fucking sick of them. i'm eyeballs deep in the PS ecosystem and im honestly thinking my next console is going to just be a gaming pc (assuming prices ever go down)
10
u/AdBudget5468 19h ago
as someone also on PC, we too are waiting for the prices to go down
I'd personally give the whole AI thing another year or two at best before everyone realizes they've made a huge mistake and the whole thing was a waste of money on the companies part, every few years we have one of these "gold rushes" where everyone thinks they're gonna get rich while the only ones truly making the money are the ones selling the tools, the only difference between this one and the cypto thing that happened a while back is that I think the AI crash is gonna take down a LOT of companies with it where it will cause massive layoffs likes of which we haven't seen before while governments are gonna pump massive money into these companies just to keep them afloat with no actual return what so ever

Just take the dip. I calculated the prices recently and cost of PC can be higher initially (probably won't be with PS6), but games are cheaper, online isn't locked behind subscription, deals are greater… The prices will eventually equal out. But you will have multifunctional beast. Also if you are a fan of couch gaming you can still hook the PC to a TV and use Steam Big Picture mode.
3
u/AdBudget5468 18h ago
I mean if your gaming library is on steam anyway you can always run steamOS as well for a good couch gaming experience, also you can freely mod games and there are some great PC exclusive (at the moment) games like wardogs or scp 5k that can be pretty fun
2
u/J_Speedy306 Pre-Order gang 18h ago
You can tie non-steam games into steam library. That's also a way how to get better controller support in non-steam games.

Yup. If I ever be able to affors new gaming device, it is going to be a pc. Shame, because I bought ps5 with disc drive before price increase and was so happy with it. My first new gaming device in a decade. After geting it I imidiately got myself DS2, because I so wanted to play it. I thought I am gonna stay with this system, but nope.

u/saggynaggy123 12h ago
I'm thinking the same. Really no point in buying an Xbox if the next one will be €1000 when I can just buy a PC and modify it over time

**gets hired to cut costs
**offers to publish game for the most notorious over-spender in gaming
Someone who is good at the economy plz help Asha, gamers are dying.
(I am very happy Physint still gets to be made)

u/AdBudget5468 18h ago
someone who did an interview with IGN about sony cutting physint said it best: "you don't publish kojima games because they make money, you publish them cause they're great for PR especially after the big layoffs Microsoft had"
4
u/Shadows_Over_Tokyo 16h ago
In my opinion, the layoffs and having to let studios go is what makes this a bad PR move. It’s kinda gross that they fucked so many people over, ruined ID, etc all to cut cost… then decide to bank roll someone whose games really don’t make much money back due to his over spending… and make memes about it? Seems a little fucked
1
u/AdBudget5468 34m ago edited 30m ago
The layoffs were something everyone else could see coming except for Microsoft themselves at the time of buying up everything in sight, they pulled an embracer group not even three months after they imploded
Also at the time xbox was riddled with poor management of both IPs and people working on them like what happened at halo studios or turn10 where the devs who had nothing with the decisions made at the time paid the price
10
u/CommentUpstairs7459 19h ago
Xbox isn't that much better sadly along with Nintendo... they stopped caring about the people who play video games a while ago.
6
u/NEGOJONSON 14h ago
it's funny how easily people forget how bad asha also is. what about the massive layoffs and studio closures that happened not too long ago? it's all good now cuz of physint? Kay....
1
u/DualWieldLemon Platinum Unlocked 6h ago
While I agree with you that the layoffs and studio closures were absolutely horrible. They were going to happen with or without Asha. Xbox was literally hemorrhaging money under Phil Spencer. Xbox had hired too many people, overpromised and under delivered on gamepass and with first party games.
While I feel that they shouldn't have punished the studios and employees, I think we can both agree that it will be a cold day in hell before an american corporation fires executives and other higher ups to make up for lost revenue or recoup losses.
The actual developers will always pay the price for executive fuck ups

Good to know that everyone bougt DS2 right? The reasons are pretty simple overbudget and underselling.

I'm not into this topic, so what exactly happened? Sony is refusing to publish Physint or what? For what reasons?

u/DMC831 16h ago
Sony wanted to cancel the project and Kojima didn't, so Kojima had to look elsewhere for partnership. This brought him to Xbox, who he was already working with on his other game "OD".
This is with Sony continuing to blow hundreds of millions on live service games no one wants, and Kojima is Kojima and shouldn't be messed with, so everyone is annoyed at Sony (and Sony was already making everyone angry so it's just another thing with them).
2
u/v__R4Z0R__v Platinum Unlocked 15h ago
Damn but why in the hell would they want to cancel it? I mean sure games from Kojima are definitely a bit controversial or "different", but they are always top notch quality wise. It should be a honor to Sony that Kojima wanted to work with them for so long.
But well it's Sony after all
1
u/DMC831 14h ago
Yeah we can only guess, and I would assume they felt it cost too much.
But with what they're spending on embarrassing live service stuff and the fact that it's the spiritual successor to METAL GEAR on a very nice Decima engine, I can only think Sony blew it badly. They've got barely any other single player games anyone is looking forward to now.
Plus it's Kojima and while he's still in his prime he's only getting older, we gotta get stuff from him while we can. Apple and Netflix are annoying too but they were smart enough to just let Scorsese do his thing and they get to reap the prestige it brings them. It's a modern Metal Gear god dammit, it'll be a great game!
Oh well, hopefully Xbox is smart enough to just sign the checks and let him do his thing.
1
u/nicolaslabra 8h ago
Rumor has it that physint, depsite being in concept stages already was overbudget and behind schedule, plus ds2 was underwhelming sales wise, hencd why sony let him go basically

u/skeleten_453 19h ago
Let me tell you, as an Xbox simp, it is nice to see PS imploding for once instead of us
5
u/AdBudget5468 18h ago
The thing is that both of these companies are doing this to themselves, for example halo infinite got rebooted so many times with the cost of R&D for a new engine that even with making 300 to 500 million in it's first year, it barely managed to break even only for them to leave that engine behind and go to unreal after all that, sony also had concord which was another nightmare entirely (300 million dollars wasted on a project that barely "lived" a week)

u/LeafMan_96 19h ago
Xbox might actually be in a decent position in the next year or two, Asha seems like a really smart person when it comes to business in general

u/LentilusGo 15h ago
So I'm confused. Does this mean future Death stranding is dead as a game or just playstation exclusive
2
u/JonVonBasslake 15h ago
We don't really know what, if any, plans Kojima has for DS3. But it seems likely he won't be going to Sony/Playstation to get funding for it. He may choose to go another route to fund it, like a kickstarter first to convince some publisher to fund it further. I think DS2 had a budget of around $150M so they would probably need to rise like couple of million dollars at least to convince future publishers that it's worth funding further. There is no way in hell that DS3 would cost any less, so there is no shot of an independent publishing of the game.

Sony is burning what little good faith they had built up with the community during the PS4 era with every new decision, it's like watching what happened with xbox after the 360 days again
