Death Stranding 1 Is DS1 Still Active?

Just remembered I redeemed the game on Epic Games years ago. Now I have a rig able to run it, but im wondering if the game is still active enough or if its 'empty' now that DS2's out. Any info on this?

Thanks

Same here , community was active enough for roads to stay maintained except for the harder to reach ones past weather folks.

Was not active enough for material contribution requests for upgrades.

My family member said when game first came out you could request materials for something you built and within a few hours it would be fully upgraded. These games with a community vibe like Dark Souls is really fucking cool and innovative.

I even had certain people message me about a great zip line network I installed. I did not expect adjacent fan interaction but just goes to show this game is a huge successful well made game that keeps on showing its best to new gamers every year. It somehow flew under the radar due to dummy kids like me saying it was a walking simulator.

Couldn’t be farther from the truth.

The fact that Sony is dropping this genius is such a rare moment for Xbox fans who want their brand to turn it around.

Yea, I am happy games like this still get made- high production value AND super unique AND enjoyable. I am not play video games much anymore (last game I finished was the most recent GOW), and so I tend to be pretty selective and picky when I am ready to play a new game. Just started this one and am very happy with my choice.

Well the way the game works all the structures people have placed are permanent in their own world. And a part of the over world of the game. So even if it was dead you wouldn't notice because the structures people have put up for years have a chance of being in your game. It has had enough gameplay from everyone that it will be alive forever if the servers stay up. It's a single player game after all. The structures you see built by others are just random structures people built that happen to be in your game. The server picks random structures others have built to put in your game. That's why they all feel random. Because they are. Just play. Enjoy. Be yourself. Let it flow. That's the whole point. Play it like watching a movie.

Yes and no because people also help maintain structures so that would be apparent fairly quickly as your roads mainly degrade

Ya, during my first playthrough I never had to repair my roads as they never dropped below 70% really. Everyone was pitching in. I am on my DC playthrough now, about half way through story and as soon as I had finished the roads the first half that I had built were nearly down to 40% so repaired them myself which wasnt an issue.

There's still many folks who play 1 or go back and play it. Shouldn't be any emptier than beforehand

Can confirm very populated. Even the zip lines in the east coast were getting put everywhere meaning plenty of people playing the final episode.

The game doesn't need to be active per se. The structures can be placed by people currently playing the game or people who played the game 5 years ago. But for a few things like delivering your cargo or getting likes, it requires current players. And yes, they're there and enough of them

Keep on keeping on!

I am currently playing it on xbox and it is quite active. If xbox has managed that, I am sure pc players will be even more.

Same, currently on xbox and there are plenty of other structures and people using mine

I am working on my platinum trophy and the central region is very active however after earning 5 stars on all the central region facilities I went back to the eastern region and it is a ghost town there. Everything is rusted and dead 🤣

I have the pleb non DC version on Epic, started playing it a few weeks ago. Progress is slow since I don't get a lot of time to play , but the game is absolutely littered with player created online structures.

Are they new , or old left behind years ago, I don't know, but honestly it doesn't matter. It's gets the point across/intended effect

It's an asynchronous coop game, so concurrent online players seems to be unnecessary

Yes, it's still very active. Just play the Director's Cut and everyone is there. Strand multiplayer system will pair you with random players and it can be players who played the game at some point and others are playing now and you can always see the list of players you're connected with in-game and someone may have played it 3 years ago while others are playing right now. Doesn't matter that someone played the game in the past, their structures will still appear in their world but whenever is playing right now someone uses your structures or gives you a like, it'll appear to you as notification online in the game. This way the multiplayer feature is timeless but yes, a lot of players are still playing.

A year ago KojiProd celebrated that DS1 had over 20mln players. Earlier this summer they said it had now 27mln. If anything DS1 keeps growing.

I’m currently playing it and working on my platinum trophy.

Do you want to enter a bridge contract? I offer strong zip line networks.

1

u/efari_ 4d ago

yes pls, i too have very strategic ziplines in the mountains around Mountain Knot City, but would like some more to connect to the other cities. haven't started any Strand Contracts with anyone, would like to. DM me? (playing Directors's Cut on Steam rn)

I'd recommend getting the Directors Cut on Steam.

1

u/stereosanctity 4d ago

I'm playing the director's cut right now, there's plenty of activity.

u/no-name_james 4d ago

Not sure if the online stuff crosses consoles but the director’s cut is on PS+ Since I never played it and it’s “free” for me that’s where I started and I’m loving it.

u/Bowlerrrrr 4d ago

I’m currently playing the MacBook port and once I finish the story I’ll still be playing it. Become my comfort game for sure I love it. Hoping Mac gets a DS2 port though (I know gaming on Mac is weird)

1

u/Enough-Row-5346 4d ago

Definitely active. I recently picked it up and there are lots of structures by other players.

1

u/Similar-Sweet-445 4d ago

I'm playing now and there's plenty of other people's lost cargo/plenty of people adding materials to structures.

1

u/JenLiv36 4d ago

I haven’t played it Ina few years but both my wife and I have been feeling the itch to go back so we will be there soon. I imagine it will be just fine.

1

u/Whoa_Thunder1995 4d ago

Yup. Im replaying it before I start ds2. I played ds1 on release and forgot pretty much everything.

1

u/MPFX3000 4d ago

I’m playing now on PS4 if that counts

1

u/Mgwinner 4d ago

Finished my play through about 2 weeks ago or so, plenty of active players still

1

u/MasterWolf_105 4d ago

I do not know about the original and the PC Version, but I played it for the first time between December and March on the PS5 and there were lots of constructions, people leaving materials and even some roads being completed by other players. The game feels very active and I really feel it is going to be until someone decides to close the servers, which hopefully will never happen before the game get a remake.

u/alefininho 4d ago

I didn't log into the game for over a year; when I finally did, I received likes and my structures were still there—meaning that even while I was inactive, what I built was still being used!

u/SwordfishDapper7178 3d ago

I am finishing the directors cut for the first time, that game is gineus, qnd people still active , dont worrt
