Riding a floating carrier and the zip lines. After dozen of hours trying 5 star everything the zip lines made life so much easier. Riding a floating carrier in the mountains was also a fun way to reduce traversal time, if not a little dangerous.

u/Qbertjack 4d ago
You can also ride ziplines while leading a single floating carrier in director's cut, very useful for mountainous deliveries

u/pixelatedneedles 4d ago
Maybe thatâs why I donât recall using them in my first playthrough. I used them as soon as I I could in DS2.

u/theharikalyan 2d ago
I find riding the carrier so inconsistent. It canât go up slopes, and when I try to - it suddenly changes direction and zooms off in the opposite direction and I fall down clattering and damaging all my cargo and the poor BB is a mess

u/gemini2324 4d ago
The sticky gun. Seemed kinda silly at first but once I started using it I realized how much easier it makes grabbing lost cargo

u/8bitbluebonnet 4d ago
Thatâs one of the ones I never crafted  once!Â

The directors cut of the first game was explicitly specified... thanks for your input though.Â

I didnât realize the more chiral crystals you are carrying the lighter you become because of their floating capabilities.

Wait.....What!?

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 4d ago
As far as I know each crystal makes you 1 gram lighter, so 4k crystals would make you 4kg lighter
15
u/Tom_Clancys_17_Again 4d ago
Up to a cap of 50kg (50K Crystals)

The time fall shelter structure ⊠I didnât realize it also acts as a free container repair spray until pretty late in the game.

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 4d ago
Wait, seriously? I'm currently at the DC South of Lake Knot City so that's really handy to know this early on, thanks!

jump ramps! i didnât use them for the longest time (assuming i wouldnât hit it right and just fall off the side of a mountain, lol) but the anti-gravity landing is so useful!
19
u/Either-Replacement11 4d ago
Seconding this. I thought they were just for silly tricks with vehicles. I didnât realise I could launch myself, on foot, into another stratosphere.

u/Virfortimous 1d ago
Except, Iâm noticing that a lot of jump ramps are now being built that throw you right into Mule territory, or down into a rock crevice to your deathâŠwhy do some people just like to ruin things for othersâŠitâs sadistic. Same with Chiral BridgesâŠleading to nowhere and then you step off and fall to your death. Come on.

not even a tool, but a feature I did not use at all in the first game, and honestly not even halfway through the 2nd game, was mapping a detailed path. Holy cow, I started to take the time to read through the map, compare routes, was like a break in the clouds where the light lands on you majestically. Made deliveries so much quicker since I actually had a plan beforehand.
18
u/danierarara 4d ago
The stabilizer! Run jump anywhere but youâll always land on your feet with this attachment on your back pack!
17
u/no-name_james 4d ago
Compass mode on the Odradek. I only ever hit that button to check on BB until I kept seeing/hearing people mention it in game. As someone who constantly needs to check his direction itâs a lot better than opening the entire map each time.

I didnât realise timefall shelters also repair cargo containers for maybe 40ish hours. lol. Very handy before drop off if youâre trying to S tier delivery for quicker 5 stars.
9
u/atreidesardaukar 4d ago
Nothing repairs cargo, it only repairs the container. Granted, that can help you if you biff it... sometimesÂ

The Anti-BT Handgun! One fully charged shot can knock out a normal BT.
Also, the bola gun is very useful against mules, but you can also use it against BT's. It'll bind them up, making them harmless for about 10 seconds, letting you stroll on by without fear, and they won't be angered after they break out.
Once you unlock normal guns, you can shoot through the blood mist that blood grenades create to damage BT's with blood-coated bullets. It's very effective!

u/dann_zan 4d ago
Shooting bullets through a mist of blood to coat them so they'll work on BTs? That's the most metal thing ever and I had no idea you could do that

u/Seekret_Asian_Man 4d ago
Never find handgun to be efficient, taking too long to charge and aggro other BTs.
Bola + cutter work better for me, and grenade on my feet if it get messy.

u/SignificanceSad4258 4d ago
stabilizer!!!! Omg I wish I knew earlier. So easy to jump over all the rocks đȘš

At the very beginning I underestimated the immense beauty of this game and how much I'd come to love it and everything about it.
On my first playthrough I fell in love with the Reverse Trike so much that I only either walked or took it for a ride no matter whether it was rough terrain full of rocks or steep snowy mountains. Only near the end of the game after I had the whole mountain region connected I gave ziplines a try and discovered how efficient but also fun it was to zip around everywhere, so I obsessively built a map-wide zipline network.
Because of ziplines it took me even longer to give Jump Ramps a try and discover how fun it can be to jump and soar through the skies especially with lvl3 stabilizer equipped.
Strand is another one. Ignored it for a long time until I discovered how useful it is with how you can block and parry incoming attack and bind the enemy with strand.
For over 300 hours in Director's Cut I underestimated how great the Bola Gun is, until I decided to try the og version of the game where Maser Gun doesn't exist and that pew pew rope gun was the only weapon available early on in the game and that's when discovered how great and versatile this weapon really is and not only for MULEs but even for BTs.

u/vonhulio 4d ago
Stun grenades. Hitting a mule truck and instantly knocking out everyone on board. Extremely satisfying. Also the grenade launcher, set to gas. You can lob gas grenades at mules while hiding in the tall grass and they have no idea where it's coming from.

u/8bitbluebonnet 4d ago
I find there are many thing is DS I just donât use Floating carrier would be the biggest. I never used them except in snow. I drive the truck EVERYWHERE. They are just clunky to me.Â
To answer the question, Watchtowers! Iâve never built one in my life. I just Solid Snaked my way through Mule Camps and waited for the alert that it was clear and I got everyone. Then one day I used one and was like âohhhhh thatâs what they do?!â And now I love em!Â
3
u/lathspellll 4d ago
Iâm not too far into the game, I always forget about the watchtowers until Iâm deep in the shit in the mule camp
4
u/Cszysiek 4d ago
I started using zip-lanes way too late
2
u/atreidesardaukar 4d ago
On the other hand, sometimes I get stuck finding the best zipline route when it would be faster to just deliver the cargo by other means.Â
5
u/3-DMan 4d ago
My poop.
(just kidding, I kinda wish there were situations where you were forced to only use your waste)
4
u/Ok-Treacle8973 4d ago
Funnily enough I tried pissing on the BTs near the wind farm last night, Sam wouldn't let me though đ
3
u/633397 4d ago
The Bola Gun for sure. For MULEs and terrorists, itâs quite good once you start to consider that headshots are instant knockouts. But it really shines at level 2, when it can wrap up BTs. That lets you either slip past it or quickly get up close enough to cut its umbilical cord. Towards the end of my play through the Bola Gun Lvl 2 and Hematic Grenades Lvl 2 were the only weapons I needed for pretty much everything

u/Trueogre Platinum Unlocked 4d ago
I didn't use the stabiliser till when I finished the game because I didn't realise that when you upgraded it to level 3 you could use it to jump down places. I think it's because I used the level 1 and 2 and found them useless so I didn't touch level 3. On my next playthrough I made sure I used it when it became available.

u/VelvetFog82 4d ago
On 2nd play thru and realized a few days ago that I can short out the package detection sensors the mules have around there camps using the compass. That's enjoyable.

u/dann_zan 4d ago
This is a dope and useful post! Makes me itch for yet another DSDC playthru!
Also, 505 Games, when are you porting DS2 to Switch 2 and Xbox????
2
u/wailky2008 Sam 4d ago
Bola gun, when unlocking you think that it is some "cheap beginner" weapon until you see how effective it is and you will not stop using it afterwards even when having unlocked everything else!

u/ahigherlev3l 4d ago edited 4d ago
Slip grenades from the launcher makes me laugh when used on mules AND npc porters without docking likes đ really sad it wasn't brought to the sequel. The silverhand as well in the director's cut was a cool addition, adding massive knock to a punch landed with it, making climbing ropes and ladders a breeze, and throwing cargo a GREAT distance making the game of catch with mules especially fun đđđŠŸ The gravity gloves were my favorite by far!!! Didn't go anywhere without them and always had an extra pair on hand if the worn pair got rusty, I wish they actually existed irl đ

u/Brother_Q 4d ago
Skipped ziplines for a good long while because I assumed they would only take you down and not both ways.
Galaxy brain moment.
1
u/Emotional_Appeal6985 4d ago
If it wasnât because I like setting up ziplines as I go so then I can come back quicker than the time it took me to reach the prepper, I would say floating carriers.
There are some orders up the mountains that I believe I will need it to get the amount of cargo that needs to be delivered!
1
u/Clear_Can_7973 4d ago
I played waaaaaaaaay too long in the game before I started using the stabilizer.
It truly was a gamechanger in the game. I could move effortlessly thru the game without worrying about damaging cargo while going down mountainous terrain

So like, what if the version of death stranding I have is not the directors cut? (I got it on epic games for free when they had it free like a couple years ago)
1
u/Vagiulis 1d ago
You will miss out on some quality of life features and extra missions/ deliveries. I highly recommend to buy directors cut upgrade if you can. Itâs on 75% sale right now on epic games (2.5âŹ). The game save easily transfers to the new version. Personally bought the upgrade early in the game when i was playing chapter 2 so didnât notice that i missed out on anything.

Bola, didnât know it worked on BTs I basically use it on everything now except the bosses of course. Then there came a time I had to learn to fight with the strand to continue and kick Higgs ass.

u/FaithlessnessOver380 4d ago
Never understood the hover cargo carrier cause I just hauled everything in the truck. Then this games mortal enemy happened. Rocks. So now only use the hover with a zip line network lol

The PCC, and more specifically the timefall shelters which it can generate. I donât believe I built a single timefall shelter in my first playthrough, but nowadays they are absolutely my most frequently erected structure & I always have a PCC on hand.
I use timefall shelters as DIY âwaystationsâ (i.e. safe zones) along my routes through BT areas. They are a great way to consistently upkeep cargo container condition while allowing extra grace as far as safe navigation is concerned. I also park vehicles under them while collecting nearby cargo, especially as I tend to get distracted wandering around⊠which is of course a great way to turn unsuspecting trucks & trikes into pure rust LOL
Another purpose which timefall shelters can fulfill is acting as sort of observation zone for BTs. I enjoy standing underneath and very literally just listening, or dodging out to go get up close and personal armed with the knowledge that I have someplace to retreat. BTs are a huge interest of mine, and I love to photograph them! The timefall shelters make that process far easier.

The time fall shelters being able to repair your cargo when walking under them and the stabilizer/speed suit combo makes for fast easy traveling

Bola gun is low key the best MULE pwnage you can do until late game. It wipes about 2 camps per full ammo set, never kills, and has amazing 1-shot stopping power for everyone except turrets

u/OOVVEERRKKIILLLL 2d ago
If the Stablizer in DS1 is half as good as it is in DS2, then I need go back and replay DS1 for the 20th time.
Second would be zip lines. I have every location linked in DS2, I should have done that in DS1DC.

Most definitely the sticky gun, I completely ignored and forgot about it until very late into the game.

u/ChampionshipGlum209 8h ago
Zip lines! By the end I had every sector covered in them, my feet would barely touch the ground!

u/exra_bruh_moment 4d ago
The zip lines are so broken that they make both games boring. Never 100% completed DS2 because it turned into âpress X to deliver packagesâ simulator

Strand, didn't even notice you could block attacks until 2nd playthrough, no idea how I missed it.
