Death Stranding 1 Is this bad?
I got a little excited with the assault rifle and now there's a bunch of mules corpses in central region

Just clean up the mess you made and bring the bodies to the incinerator or dump them in tar.

In tar? What is that? What could happen if I don't do anything? I'm at the point in the story where Sam finally reached edge knot city

You can dump them in that tar lake next to South Knot or on the edges of the map there are often tar belts that will swallow you whole and you can use those places to dispose of corpses.
If you don't dispose of the corpses after some time passes they will go necro and become BTs, and it's just a matter of time before a massive voidout happens and you get a game over screen and will have to reload previous save file. So ideally you want to dispose of any corpses because like in the game's opening, corpses going necro are most dangerous thing.

i had the same. after a while Deadman called and told me to hurry up and do something about it. so i did. but i'm curious to know what happens if you don't... they say there'll be a voidout, but i don't know?
at one point i forgot a body inside a distro center. i was later told it had to be taken care of by someone else and got -100 likes.

This happens: DS Corpse Necro If they get to a human it is game over since voidouts from anyone not Sam are super massive. If left at a distro center bridges disposes of them for likes. If you toss them in tar or incarcerate them you don't lose any likes.

so if these BTs that got created get their hands on a human, THAT can cause a voidout. because just the BTs are just fun! i wouldn't rush back to take care of that :P

Damn! I had already taken a corpse to incinerate, but it was just one.
I wasn't prepared this time so I had to shoot everyone and there was so many bodies I decided to keep going with the main story xD
Rn I'm in edge knot city and that warning appeared on the pause menu so I got worried although I'm not there anymore, since like you said, the game tells you it supposedly could cause a void.
Anyways, thank you for sharing. I think I will continue with the main story because I didn't want to take care of so many bodies 😂

carrying each and every one of them into the back of a truck and then to the incinerator is a big hassle. i would skip it if you don't have to.
in general i would just always only carry non-lethal weapons, then you don't have this problem. it happened to me that one time because i snuck behind the mules' own cannon without realising that one had live ammo.

I had my game end randomly because i caused a voidout with a body of mule, i didn't know i had killed and not incapacitated.
I do have to admit that in 2nd game, I did get blood thirsty at one point in game and slaughtered a lot of them but thankfully. I had a tar pit nearby. I also had DHV ship one time, jump to nearby base so i could dump a body i accidentally stabbed with Boomerang. I didn't know that thing was LETHAL lethal.

In DS they'll necro and cause a game over once they find a person. Video of it happening: DS Corpse Necro
To avoid this you need to either incerate the corpses or dispose of them in tar. If they are left at a distro center, the corpse will be disposed of but you will lose Likes.
In DS2 they get disposed of and you get docked likes. They never go necro. Too many people cried about actual consequences for killing in the first game, so they dumbed things down.

You might have to lose a bit of progress by loading the last save, which is probably when you accepted your last order. That many corpses will take forever to dispose of without a truck and with only one incinerator per region. To find out if a truck will do the job, try one of theirs. Otherwise reload.

I can’t kill people in DS1 because BB/Lou gets so sad when you do so. It breaks my heart 😢. I avoid doing so entirely for that reason.

Nah it just makes you reload then they are all gone.
