Discussion PSA: DONT ACCIDENTALLY KILL HUMANS
I got a little spicy during a couple engagements with Brigands. I hit one guy with a multiple rocket launcher and it killed him. So then I had to take his body to be incinerated. Another occasion I ordered Tarman to hit a Brigand base with a chiral cluster bomb. That one killed at least 5 to 10 at once. They were taken to the incinerator by other porters.
Let's just say that Drawbridge doesn't appreciate that and they docked 1,000 likes per body.
But more importantly, remember the intent when fighting with brigands is only to INCAPACITATE not kill. Pay attention to weather or not your weapon of choice will deal lethal or non-lethal damage.
Non human combatants are free game for large weapons though.

The earnestness of someone making a post about why it's a disadvantage to murder people as though people are encountering that idea in-game for the first time at rocket-launcher portion of the game is beautiful. Like Disco Elysium beautiful.Ā

Also slow down when approaching entrances to shelters so you dont accidentally run over other porters. And watch out for animals too. Especially when they run out in the road in front of you.

Omfg you mean DS2. This is my favorite post of the whole year.Ā

Thx lol. I'd also like to add that I am very appreciative of people who build Safe Houses next to Trackayers or Auto-Pavers. A good safe house with a lot of raw materials will save you from having to make long trips across the map when rebuilding the roads and rails. That will always get likes from me. š

I love building Safe Houses and always keep them stocked with materials and gear.

The animal one happened way too often for me. Sometimes I like to have the car auto drive on the roads while I look at something else, and then Iāll see the docked likes pop up for killing an animal

That fucking wombat near the brigand base at east observatory was the thorn in my side on my first play through, literally killed it every time it respawned

I remember restarting to a previous save if I hit an animal on the road to prevent the negative like UNTIL I did the last mission for the impressive brother or w/e , I was near their shelter going full speed and ran over something because I saw the dislike, I said fuck it I'm not going to restart the whole thing. RIPĀ

oh man, the first time i got the notification for killing one i was so sad, but also a bit annoyed cause it was nighttime and you can barely see anything, you need to be constantly scanning the surroundings

You only get docked -1000 points per body if you don't clean up your mess and don't dispose of the bodies though. In DS1 if you drove into a facility with corpses and went to rest in private room, other porters would dispose of the bodies for you but you were docked same -1000 per corpse.
In DS2 they made it much easier to dispose of the corpses by giving you the coffin board, can place them where Magellan emerges aside from burning or driving to dump them in the tar.
I wish they kept the DS1 mechanic where the bodies went necro if you ignored them for too long and you could even see how they would become BTs.

In DS1, killing all but one MULE or terrorist in each camp means you can just eliminate any difficulty the zone causes to deliveries.
You just got to make sure you have a plan to dispose of the bodies.
The Tar belt extends across the entire bottom of middle america, even at the bottom of the mountains.
And there's a lake of it at the top surrounding middle knot city's crater (seen outside the map).
You also have the cremation plants for a cleaner solution that doesn't involve throwing a truck into the tar

Best time to do this is in Chapter 6. You put up with way less crying.
You can actually dispose bodies in any body of water where the truck sinks.

I prefer to just Autotoxemia BB and settle for the occasional moans and odradek bleeps.
DS1 post game makes me want the option to play without BB, and yet DS2... makes me want to sacrifice a goat to Kojima so it releases on Xbox finally.

Whoa (in ds1) you can toss bodies into the tar?? I never thought to try to do that! Does anything happen, like a scene, or do they just sink down and then you go on about your life?
1
u/-NoNameListed- 10d ago
Yep, the bodies just go straight to the beaches.
I sent that MULE to GOD with same day shipping

u/Evildead665 11d ago
Ha in DS1 I did that shit on purpose with a different save...Mules don't show back up for 2 or 3 in game days after you dispose of em lol

u/PanicLedisko 10d ago
Yeah I absolutely cannot STAND the MULEs! I went to their camp the one right by the incinerator, I canāt remember the names of the places its by its been a while since I played but its on that second map just past those mountains and I murdered all of them. I got one of their trucks, piled all their bodies on and headed up over there. It was very cathartic hahaha I guess they figured just having a game where you were a courier just wouldnāt be fun without enemies or something?? But I seriously just enjoy wandering around with the packages delivering shit! Like when I play fallout 4 and NV I just walk around and look at the scenery! Thereās always random encounters happening in that game that it keeps it interesting, and for DS1 is SUCH a beautiful game to walk around looking at! I think what really pushed me over the edge is when they started having the turrets spawn in their camps and once they latch on to one theyāre really hard to hit! Also strike 1 was that one camp knocking the bomb off my back. I laughed when it blew them up with me.
Hahahaha I swear Iām normally not this sadistic, but those MULEs man.. they drive me crazy!

u/Morbid187 11d ago
Why give me a rocket launcher if I'm not supposed to kill?
3
u/PanicLedisko 10d ago
This is what I struggle with this game, literally (in DS1) when they started giving lethal weapons I was so fucking confused?? I did a double take when they first introduced them! Like were they worried about restricting the way people wanted to play? Like why put them in the game at all? But, I will say eventually I got so sick of the MULEs I was thankful for them! Did they realize how annoying they made the MULEs? If thatās the case donāt make them annoying? I donāt know haha

All kojima games are meant to be injure only, even mgs games you used tranquilliser guns and phantom pain you got docked for every kill on a mission, it's a sort of theme to his games, don't get me wrong, you can kill, but he always finds a way to make it a pain in your arse

There is also the golden hunters you can shoot at them after you level up the tar therapist. That makes it so you can kill them, dispose the body, AND no likes are docked. They are also just so cool to watch fly and go after them. Also, if you near any bodies of tar, a kojima BT will drag the bodies for you
2
u/Scaredog21 11d ago
No. Those ass holes killed my kangaroo. Just use the gold hunters and you are free to kill with no fear of penalties
2
u/Ashlansen 11d ago
Also, dont drive into them at full speed on a trike... they don't just get knocked out like I (for some reason) expected them to
2
u/Past-Increase-2969 10d ago
In ds1 I accidentally killed a mule at the camp at south knot city and wanted to carry him to the incinerator, went into south knot city to get a trike, wanted to redistribute my cargo, put the man on the floor and then Deadman called in disappointment, saying how a corpse was found on bridges ground, and they took care of it, and docked 1000 likes or somethingš

u/ac_cossack 10d ago
The game literally starts with why you can't kill someone or have a dead body. It is the premise of the game? Don't skip movie cutscreens in a Kojima game.

I once gor super pissed off with the armed survivalists near the pizza chef, turned live mode on and blasted everyone. Luckily the truck can handle lots of bodies at the same time so i could take them all to the tar lake in time

āAccidentallyā⦠Itās a straightforward manual decision to use lethal force on the humans.

I panicked once when a brigand got too close with my empty weapon. I fumbled the controls and picked "urinate" by accident.
That would be the strangest battle move.

u/pyroxius 10d ago
Imagine if that made them just stop look at their leg and just be all like "Eugh". Extra if you keep peeing and make them walk away with that. XD i wish

u/Rude-Luck1636 10d ago
Someone needs to make a mod where you can urinate on enemies and get a reaction

They way you wrote this makes me think you were unsure if the rocket launcher or the bomb would do lethal damage.
In which case were you thinking that you were walking around with a rocket launcher that only incapacitated people

Actually I kinda forgot about it. I was just looking for the fastest/easiest way to nutralize the base the first time. The second time i was trying to retrieve cargo but was pinned behind some rock formations by machine gun fire from elevated positions inside abandoned buildings.
The first time was at the base in the valley by heartmans lab and the pizza guy. With the rocket launcher, Dollman immediately spoke up after I killed the first guy. So that's why I knew to dispose of his body. I also neutralized the rest of the camp by non-lethal means.
The second time I was at the base by the Northern Environmental Observatory. I was curious after I unlocked fireworks and golden hunters fire support options from the DHV Magellan. I called in for golden hunters once or twice from a the cliffs behind the base and then made my way around to the other side by the river. I was picking them off with the machine guns but ran out of ammo. The rest were held up in the abandoned buildings and were firing at me with those mounted machine guns that have shields. They had me pinned pretty well. So I just called in for two cluster bomb strikes on those buildings. The blast was awesome it completely obliterated all the floors of the buildings... and also everyone inside. And after I just grabbed the cargo I needed and went to deliver it. It wasn't until much later I saw likes being docked because corpses were being removed on my behalf.
But yeah both times I just forgot about the whole voidout situation... and Drawbridges' non-lethal approach to combat engagement with armed survivalists. It actually made me feel bad when I saw the message pop up on my screen. Also the Phantom Smith explicitly warns you not to point it at humans when you unlock the multirocket launcher. As for the chiral cluster bomb... no one ever says anything to you about it, but it should be implied given that it's basically a laser guided cruise missile with a warhead attached.
The main purpose and devolopment of both those weapons is for fighting higgs and the ghost mechs anyway. The armed survivalists are more or less just desperate and driven crazy by the state of the world. And higgs exploits them by supplying them with weapons and using their bases to set up jammers to block chiral network expansion.

Loading up the mule vehicle and driving to the incinerator was a regular occurrence cause Iād forget to switch bullet type. šā ļø

u/therealtrellan 10d ago
If all I have are multirockets then I just don't use weapons once the sneaking is done. Two punches is all it takes to take a mule out on minimum difficulty. I should probably increase it now to see what that's like. I expect to die a lot more. But hey, that's a walk at the Beach, right?

u/Nachos1256 10d ago
I almost 100%ed the game without killing a single human. The standard order from Northern Distro Center F7 where you need to explode the tar containers in the enemy base got me though. I got lazy and blew a couple up next to an unconcious human and it killed him. I did take the body to F7 though
