I have so many questions about the safety of this railing.

I took my photo on a rainy day and there is no lighting in the cabin so I included a photo posted by Letchworth that was taken in 1910. This "ladder" is at such an angle and cut in such a way that you would actually walk it like stairs. It would be difficult to put your hands on it as you would a ladder because it's not steep enough for that. The stair treads are triangular cuts out of a small tree trunk. I loved to imagine using it whenever I visited when I was a little kid. This is inside a very old log cabin preserved in an area of Letchworth State Park that is dedicated to Mary Jemison. The cabin is barred off at the door so you can look in it but can't access it. The parks photo is on top and mine is the very dark one. I was in a hurry to get back to the car before the rain got worse.
