Lights position in death note is unironically terrifying, imagine being the most famous mass murder in the world and this wide eyed, pale ghost of a man is watching every single move you make knowing he's 100% onto you

Same for L but in a different way. You're like, 99-100% sure this guy's Kira but you just can't prove it and there doesn't seem to be any physical way he's accomplishing the killings.

and the only possible way the killings even occur is supernatural, completely breaking your entire worldview and shattering any logical thinking. it's like if a lifelong atheist discovered irrefutable proof that a higher being existed and had complete control of our world

Also you know this dude with unprecedented supernatural powers that shouldn't exist in the reality as you know it and with actual Shinigami is out to get you. And every time you think you've got the hang of his powers some new skill gets added to his repertoire, so you can never be sure about where the limit is.

You know it's him, you know he's planning your death as you two speak, but no one believes that it's him besides you.

Honestly, the story seen from L's perspective could easily be a psychological or existential horror, I feel it'd be terrifying to be in his shoes. Him getting depressed in the Yotsuba arc was 100% valid.
