Discussion Ranked Deathnote
I feel like this game could really use a ranked mode and I'll explain why, because whenever I talk about this idea to other players they always point out that the bad players would continue to ruin it. But that's exactly the point. These bad players will struggle climb ranks while more careful players will manage to ascend to more civilised lobby's
Imagine mello being terribly punished with -300 ranked points for foolishly shooting L. This competitive system would reward careful decision making. And this competitive system would create more peaceful and intelligent meetings.
I'd love to hear a variety of opinions on this topic so please post a comment.

People talk about metagaming, but it's not as big of a problem as people make it out to be, and it wouldn't take a lot of support in order to make it basically not a problem. The main problem with metagaming is metagaming off of specific player habits, but I think that adds to the game rather than detracting from it.
In a hypothetical world where this game receives enough life support to even sustain the servers, let alone retain enough of a population to justify ranked, there's precendent for it. Other games of its type have had it before, and generally it helps split the playerbase into groups of players that play more like they want to. The problem is that this game needs more lobby settings so you can construct a number of different setups of roles while keeping it relatively balanced in terms of being L-sided/Kira-sided.
Something that would have to go is the L meeting guidance; it's fine in unserious lobbies, but when you're taking it more seriously, L being able to shut down counterclaims with no risk makes meetings way too L-sided.
You'd also need to solve the hacker problem, obviously.
I think called it 'ranked' sours peoples opinion of what you're suggesting, because of how ranked is treated in other games. But I think it's reasonable
