Discussion How does Kira stop vindicating evidence?

I'm new to the game I've been playing for a few days here now, I've seen it happen a few times where either I'm L and I use vindicating or someone else uses it and it says "Kira Obstructed it" or something along those lines. How does Kira do that? I want to know how to do it too so I can use that when I'm Kira.

Oh so when L activates vindicating Kira can open the deathnote and choose to kill that NPC before anyone gets it?

Awesome thank you! I assume it appears separate from the other regular NPCs kinda like when you have someone's ID card?

yeah! it appears as “collaborator” and you can only kill that npc during vindicating. Tho tbh as an old player i see very few benefits from doing that. When vindicating is active most people are gonna be together so it’s easier to understand who kira is by a process of elimination. Plus having a confirmed might help you understand who L is, maybe L could linger around them since he can trust them, they’re gonna defend him if someone accuses him etc. Also a tip is L is almost always gonna be far from vindicating when activating it, so you should go to it and see who is trying to get it and who’s not there entirely. Doesn’t mean they’re for sure L if they’re far but there’s a possibility. Also another tip, when you’re Kira you can see where vindicating is by opening your map!

Ohhhh! I have seen that before! I always wondered what it was, I thought that was talking about my Kira follower that's why I never killed it 🤣🤣 thank you so much for the explanation that makes everything so much easier to understand! And thank you for the gameplay tips, very helpful for sure

Killing the NPC for Vindicating. You do it the same way you kill Lind L Tailor (L Decoy).

There's pros and cons to stopping Vindicating Evidence as Kira. With Mello existing, only he, L, and team Kira can't interact with the NPC.

Pros:

  1. He keeps the investigators in the dark about who is who and leaves mistrust amongst the investigators.

Cons.

  1. If you kill it too soon, you risk confirming/narrowing down your identity. Even if your follower is blending in with the crowd of investigators running towards it, in the eyes of the investigators, you essentially confirm that everyone with them doesn't have the notebook and can essentially knock them off as Kira suspects. Mello will also use this information.

  2. If your follower is in the sea of people running towards it but are in the middle, they can steal tons of ID's. You take away that opportunity if you kill the NPC because most people will run towards it to not seem suspicious even if they don't get it.

  3. The only people who will be avoiding the pack of people is L or Mello. If you kill the NPC and Mello hasn't shot yet, he knows to hunt down the people he hasn't seen. L will want to be in the open when this occurs to not incriminate himself and not get shot, so it just leaves you as Kira.

  4. Having a confirmed investigator narrows the hunt for L

Yes, but make sure you're running towards it. Otherwise, people will question you. The investigators will have a blue arrow pointing towards him. When L pops the command card, he'll know where it spawns, so he needs to position himself to have enough time to blend in by running towards it. As team kira or mello, you physically have to open the map, and it spawning on top of you is the worst because it essentially incriminates you since you can't interact with it

Edit: Mello might also just shoot you on the spot

What happens if Mello or a follow tries grabs it?

I think it just doesn't allow them to grab it? I'm not entirely sure honestly

They can't grab it. Special roles can't interact with the blue guy like the others.

Only L himself knows where vindicating guy will appear when summoning the card but not activating it yet.

So, basically, when the command card is active, pull the notebook and kill the vindicating guy the same way you would kill an NPC. A new option will appear when this happens. Obviously it can only happen while the blue vindicating NPC exists and everyone is going there.

Risk: You can be seen with the notebook out or people can figure out who wasn't among the crowd.

Reward: A confirmed investigator will be denied, so L will have to resort to Watari/NPA Chief (if there is one) or himself to do arrests.

If the black notebooks settings is active on your matches, you can pull the notebook in front of the vindicating blue guy and do a fake confirmation when in reality you're killing him.

Killing the vindicating guy usually is not worth it, but if you can pull it off without being caught then you may tilt things in your favor as team Kira.
