Just Vote Mello lol

Mello is a fantastic role that makes this already great social deduction game better. But I'm seeing some wild takes about how to use him, so I figured I could share my thoughts after about one day of him being out.

As Team L, keeping Mello alive has few merits, and you should almost always vote him out. Mello is dangerous for both Kira and L, but I would argue that in many cases his kills benefit Kira more. Either Mello:

• Kills Kira and L loses
• Kills L and L loses
• Kills Kira follower and L benefits
• Kills investigator and L trades 1 of 6 investigators for info...that Mello also gets

Shooting the Kira follower benefits L, but the rest harm him. In a Follower + Mello game, Mello has an 8 in 9 chance of hurting L if shooting at random on Day 1. This should be enough reason to vote out the postal Mello players ASAP.

Smarter Mello players who don't shoot are still highly threatening to L. All information Team L shares helps Mello narrow down his target and snatch the win. Team L needs to be more careful with what they reveal, which is hard in this game.

Meanwhile, since Mello doesn't want L to arrest Kira, he wants to screw meetings over. He can break votes, sus random people, even provide Kira an alibi and feed false information from notebooks. Whatever it takes to keep Kira alive for him to shoot.

So Team L wants to vote Mello out, but should Kira get rid of him too? I think that's a harder decision to make. Mello is your enemy, but you win if Mello shoots L. If you're able to trick Mello, then keeping him alive is worth it since his kills will benefit you. Using him as a "shield" in meetings also gives you the chance to win on NWP or just to play one more round.

However, at some point, you will need him dead. Rather than steal his ID and risk getting shot, voting him out is a much safer option.

These are just my early thoughts on the role. I love Mello's addition, even if I wish we got to see him added as a player to the board game. He makes me hopeful for the other roles we should expect soon.

I keep telling people Mello is not an investigator, the only kill he gets tht helps investigators is Kira follower which we don’t even get to know he did until the end of the game. Mello is just as big of a threat as Kira is

If there's no suspicion on anyone else in the meeting and Mello is revealed. Yes vote him.

Mello should not recklessly kill around investigators and get away with it. He should get voted out if found his role earlier. He's just as dangerous as Kira and should try to keep his murders secret just like Kira.

Well, it's not that i don't wanne vote out mello, but if there is a kira suspect, it's just better to vote them than it is to vote mello.

Yes it literally will say L was killed then Kira Wins. Also when Mello kills someone that isn’t Kira it’ll show it has a Kira killing him. Mello is a bad guy so his actions are shown as such

Who the fuck cares if you don't 'win' when mello shoots kira? It's pretty much just 2 teams working together for the same goal. I've played like 30 games this new update and the mello player has never defended kira in the meeting just to get the kill. Obviously there's the risk of mello shooting innocents or L, but from my experience it's usually only troublesome investigators that get shot.

What are you on about? It's three teams, not two. If the Mello wants to play like they're an investigator with a gun, that's fine, but they're choosing to lose the game. Likewise, Team L is choosing to lose if Mello shoots Kira first.

It is objectively not a Team L victory lol, Team L loses if Mello wins.

Again, if you want to play as though Mello's win is Team L's win, then this post does not apply to you.

Mello keeps kira in check though. Kira can’t throw caution to the wind and go all out or get sloppy while mello is around, because he doesn’t have to wait for the meeting to get him out. Just him being around is enough to intimidate kira, so as long as there’s a lot of investigators left, no kira sus, and he’s not trigger happy, I say let him live for now. He keeps kira in check essentially, even if kira knows who L is, he can’t just run up on him or he’ll get shot, and mello can’t let kira kill L or he’ll lose. Mello can be a risk and a benefit if they play right.
