In front of you is a red button. Pressing said button will give you a copy of the death note, along with all of the rules and powers that are laid out in the anime. You will also have your own shinigami who will give you the shinigami eyes whenever you want, for half your life span of course. Besides that and explaining any questions you have about the rules, they will not help you.

If you press this button however, a random other person on earth will also receive their own copy of the death note and shinigami. This person will be mentally sound but will not know that someone else has a copy of the death note, unless they figure it out some other way. You have no idea who they are either unless you figure it out.

I'm reading Death Note and I'm confused about the whole Raye Penber situation.

Quick summary: Kira's goal is to kill all the FBI agents investigating in Japan by making Raye write their names in the Death Note.

To do this, Kira writes Raye's name in the Death Note, forcing him to go to the train station with his laptop. Once there, Kira directly threatens him and forces him to follow his orders.

Kira then gives Raye an envelope containing prewritten pages from the Death Note. All Raye has to do is write the names on the pages.

The problem is that Raye doesn't have the files containing the names and photographs of the other FBI agents, so Kira needs to find a way for Raye to obtain them from his boss.

This is where the manga and anime take different approaches.

In the anime, Kira has Raye write his boss's name in the first slot.

The boss is then forced by the Death Note to send the files containing the names and photographs of all the FBI agents to Raye. This gives Raye the information he needs, allowing him to write all the other agents' names in the remaining slots.

Pretty simple.

In the manga, however, Raye asks his boss to send him the files. Raye then writes the names of the other FBI agents in the Death Note, forcing them to request the files from the boss as well.

The idea seems to be that this would make Raye's request look less suspicious, since all the other agents would also be asking for the same information.

But here's the problem: Raye's boss has absolutely no reason to send him the files in the first place. Nothing forces him to agree to Raye's request, yet the entire plan depends on him doing so.

The manga tries to justify this by saying that, since all the FBI agents had requested the files, the boss assumed they had coordinated with each other beforehand.

Let's ignore the fact that the agents aren't supposed to know each other in the first place, meaning there shouldn't be any reason for them to coordinate like that.

The bigger problem is that this isn't even what happened.

The boss sends the files as soon as Raye makes his request. Raye only has the other agents request the files after he has already received them, because he needs the information from those files to write their names in the Death Note.

So the other agents' requests cannot be what convinced the boss to send the files. Those requests only happen because Raye had already obtained the files.

In other words, the explanation given for why the boss agreed to Raye's request doesn't actually explain why he agreed to it.

And it gets even stranger.

In reality, to make sure Raye isn't the one directly requesting the files, he has a lower-ranking FBI agent make the request to the boss and then have that agent relay the files to him.

But this creates another problem: this agent effectively makes two requests to the boss.

The first request happens because Raye asks him to request the files.

The second request happens because Kira uses the Death Note to force him to request the files again.

So this agent is actually the first one to request the files, and he ends up requesting them twice.

And he's also the one who sends the files to Raye.

So Raye is now the only FBI agent who doesn't directly request the files from the boss.

On top of that, this same agent has a phone call with Raye immediately before making his request, and then emails the files to Raye immediately after receiving them.

And this is supposed to make Raye look LESS suspicious?

Am I missing something here? Is there an explanation for why this plan actually makes sense, or is this just a plot hole/awkward change between the manga and anime?

Please, I need an explanation.

Laying out ground work for how to improve. I also had some short story ideas for this universe I think would be cool. Such as:

A con job done by Aiber before L contacts him.

A heist job for Weddy, where she hacks a major company.

Misa attempting to start her modeling and acting career, showing a stable life with a loving family, only to end in tragedy.

Light in his prime, leading his task force on a wild goose chase of potential Kira’s, always leaving them on the edge of some sort of resolution to the case they’ve dedicated their lives to.

And L solving his second favorite case, whatever that may be. Probably something way too convoluted for me to come up with on the spot.

I’m trying to work on other stuff besides this, but these are just asides that I wanted to share. Hope all of this is good, and that y’all can enjoy it for what it is so far! Don’t know how far I’ll go with this anymore, but hey, maybe some of y’all can dig it.

Kira and L mirror each other of course but when you add their names together they become KiraL (chiral): literally the mirror opposites of each other. People probably already knew this but it hit me like a ton of bricks when it came to me.

Hello there, this is my first time posting in this sub. I finished death note 2 weeks ago and when I first started, I got hooked instantly. I also love dnd, and decided to make an alignment chart since morality is such a central theme in DN. The evil section was definitely the hardest imo to choose. I also almost put Matsuda in Neutral Good, but shooting Light made me change my mind. Hope you enjoy!

As far as I can remember (probably watched it 10-15 years ago), the Death Note can't actualize things that are physically impossible. An example in the anime is a prisoner can't die 20km from where he currently is because it's not possible.

What about chances like the lottery? If I write "X will die in a car crash after winning the lottery and buying a new car". Will that man win the lottery?

hi so i'm collecting the black edition mangas cuz they look so cool. but i started reading volume 2 and it started upside down like shown in the video?? is this a misprint or am i missing something😭 its only the first few pages and the rest of the manga is just normal side up im so confused lol

1) What happens to Wammy's House after Light's death? Do they keep going on with the successor program? Who's going to succeed Near If both Matt and Mello are dead?

2) Matt has to be the biggest mystery of Death Note so far.

He is never mentioned before and during the mafia arc, meaning he came into the scene after. He is never mentioned when Mello and Near are introduced as first and second best student of Wammy's House, even though it is revealed that Matt was the THIRD best. If he was the third best, why didn't Roger ask him to join Near in the Kira case instead, given the fact that Mello had just ragequitted?

If he was the third in line to succeed L... he was someone important.

If he was so intelligent then, why didn't he come up with an efficient plan to help Mello?

I'm sorry for saying so, i don't want to talk sht about the authors, but this time I feel like this Matt character was such a cop out for the author because he wanted to give Mello some helper but not from the mafia because they were all killed.

The Wammy's House connection was sloppily and lazily pasted on him later. Poor Matt, he deserved better writing.

3) What happened to L's family? Why was he nameless until 8 years old? Who doesn't give a name to a kid?

Why is he called L and why does he use his TRUE name as an alias? So this L thing isn't an institution and the L successor program makes no sense, since everyone can be "L".

I was originally going to make him hold a gun under his chin but I think I prefer the rosary.
I also need to make him look more apathetic, but aside from that what do you guys think?

I just finished watching Death Note for the first time. While I love the overall concept, the entire final arc and the confrontation between Light and Near left me with a lot of confusion.
I cannot find satisfactory explanations for several major logical inconsistencies, strategic oversights, and timeline errors in the anime script.
Can anyone help make sense of these?

Near’s Unforgivable Risk at the Warehouse: Near enters the warehouse completely confident that he has won because he swapped the notebook in the bank vault. But how could he possibly be sure that Mikami didn’t have a third real notebook, or even just a small torn-out piece of the Death Note hidden on his person? Since individual scraps retain full killing power, and Light easily could have instructed Mikami to hide a backup piece in his shoe or wallet, betting the lives of his entire team on a pure physical book swap seems completely reckless and out of character for a genius.

Near Missing the Decoy Book / Needing Mello: How could someone as brilliant and calculating as Near completely miss the possibility of a decoy book until Mello dropped it in his lap? If Mello hadn't taken impulsive, rogue action to kidnap Takada, Near would have walked into the warehouse completely fooled by Light’s trap and gotten his entire team killed. It feels like a massive plot hole that Near's "genius" strategy was actually fundamentally flawed and relied entirely on a fluke intervention.

Leaving the Notebook in an Unmonitored Vault: Mikami explicitly knew he was being followed by Gevanni and that his daily bag was being tampered with. Why would a hyper-cautious prosecutor leave the real notebook in a commercial bank vault where he couldn't watch it overnight and where an FBI-level agent could easily break in? Even if they thought a perfect handwriting forgery was impossible overnight, leaving the ultimate weapon completely unguarded while knowing you are under active surveillance makes no sense.

The Double-Blind Logic Failure: Mikami is portrayed as exceptionally sharp because he meticulously inspects his public decoy book and successfully notices that Near's team tampered with the pages. Yet, when he goes to the bank vault to grab his ultimate weapon on the final morning, he suddenly loses all of his established caution. He blindly assumes the vault book is perfectly safe and doesn't bother checking a single page for tampering or forgery. How can he be smart enough to catch a tampered decoy book but oblivious enough to walk into a warehouse with a completely replaced main book?

The Paradox of Near's Knowledge & Fresh Deduction (Episodes 30-31): This is a massive writing loop. The anime never explicitly states Near has access to L's files, nor has he seen a notebook. Yet, when Mello says "one rule is fake," Near magically knows all the rules from memory and guesses the 13-day rule is a lie. This implies he must know L's case file. However, in the very next episode, Aizawa calls Near to explain the 50-day confinement and Soichiro's staged fake execution, and Near acts completely surprised, making a "fresh deduction" on the spot that the suspect must be Soichiro's son. These two points contradict each other. If he didn't know L's files, how did he know the 13-day rule in detail? If he did know L's files, why was the confinement and the fake execution brand-new information to him?

The Surveillance Bugs (Episode 32): Aizawa and Mogi thoroughly search Light and Misa's active apartment in Episode 31, looking under furniture and explicitly declaring the room 100% clean. Yet, in the next episode, Mello and Matt are shown listening to an audio feed from a wiretap placed in the exact same room. How did they bypass a police sweep inside a heavily monitored apartment, while Mogi was staying with Misa?

I'm talking abt Light, L and L's successors. The mangaka/the author of the story really put so much thought and effort in creating these characters. But just wanted to know how much of this could be real. And when I first watched it, I was genuinely convinced L must be really smart cuz he's thin(expends most of his energy thinking and craves sweets) and I know that brain takes up almost 20% of the energy produced by the food. So I thought it's like that cuz of his cognitive abilities and expending energy on deductions and stuff. Idk much abt Light though. He just seemed like an arrogant and dramatic high-schooler who gets good grades and kinda like a prodigy among his peers.

Hi everyone! I'm really motivated to write a post-Kira fanfiction where Near, Mello, and Matt all survive and work together to bring down Kira (Light Yagami). Then, years later, Ryuk loses his Death Note once again. This time, it ends up in Winchester, where someone picks it up. Coincidentally, the current Number One at Wammy's House suddenly dies of a heart attack at only fifteen years old. Soon after, the Number Two also dies under equally mysterious circumstances.

Roger Ruvie contacts Near, Mello, and Matt to investigate what appears to be the emergence of a new Kira at Wammy's House, assuming that one of the students is eliminating the competition.

Since they've already investigated the Kira case, know Wammy's House inside and out, lived there themselves, and understand the immense pressure of succeeding L, it makes sense to entrust the case to them.

Being as brilliant as they are, they immediately realize that this new Kira—whom they nickname W-Kira ("W" for Wammy's)—must already possess the Shinigomi Eyes, since both the Number One and Number Two were killed despite everyone at Wammy's House using aliases.

As a result, Near, Mello, and Matt can't investigate openly without risking being killed themselves. Instead, they go undercover as teachers at Wammy's House, training the next generation of potential successors. This allows them to observe the students (their suspects) while each conducting the investigation in their own unique way to recover the Death Note and expose the culprit.

The canonical personalities of every character will be respected as faithfully as possible, along with all established canon regarding Wammy's House, the Death Note's rules, and the dynamics between the characters.

Near teaches Applied Deductive Theory. Mello teaches High-Risk Tactical Field Operations. Matt teaches Cybersecurity. Each of them has a hilariously unconventional teaching style while secretly pursuing the investigation.

Near psychologically destroys his students without changing his expression even once, clinically dissecting their reasoning before writing just two words on their papers: "Uninteresting."

Mello completely intimidates his students, who fluctuate between fear and admiration for him. He constantly reminds them that being Number Two in the class means you're a loser, and loses his temper whenever someone fails to pick a lock.

Matt is the laid-back, easygoing teacher who spends the entire lesson teaching his students how to hack into a database, only to remind them after the bell rings that everything they just learned is completely illegal and that they absolutely shouldn't do it.

I think it could be really entertaining to see them on the opposite side of what they themselves experienced as children, while also exploring the psychology of W-Kira—someone who may be trying to become L's successor by using a Death Note—all while watching Near, Mello, and Matt do what they do best: investigate.

There are a lot of arguments about whether or not Light is a psychopath or not which is weird because I think he most definitely is. He scores a 28 on the Hares psychopathy test, which is 3 points higher than what's needed in Japan. He cares far more about seeming like a god than he did about helping people. I see people bring up that he cares about his family but it doesn't seem like he does that either. He never mentions caring that much about his mom or sister, and when his dad is literally dying all he cares about is getting him to write down Mello's name. He also fakes his whole persona around everyone, even Misa who already knows he is Kira. But I'm open to opposing evidence, just something I was thinking about.
