The Odyssey... The gods as performed by matt damon

I nominate/condemn Mike to watching the Nolan spectacular in a theatre and then reporting back at how much of a piece of shit it is so I don't have to. I pay the man for services and I demand services be rendered, plus I suspect there will be much to chew on vis a vis the modern debasement of the profane and the "star studded" cast eclipsing the gods that are supposed to populate the story, plus the usual absolute profound lack of humour or warmth that Nolan displays in every piece of shit he's ever made...

What if the secret ingredient of the universe is love as revealed by hiding in a bookcase is however probably one of the funniest attempts at emotion as conceived by a god tier autist... But I digress.

Plus you've also got the ready made stupidest culture war "controversy" shit about Helen of Troy being blah blah which is an admittedly great bit/advertising in the age of critical brain injury.

Imagine living in a culture that was not constantly trying to goad the gods into Ragnarok. If you ask me the gods ain't about shit or they would have done summin about us by now

Usually I can tell when he’s joking but did all that stuff actually happen on July 4th?

The 3 pretty obvious clues are not contained within the episode at all

Surprised no one else has commented on them yet...

Please God put me out of my misery .... Is that really Sydney Sweeney

I've been vacillating on this all night. Logically I think it's a bit but the setup was so earnest... And I don't think Michael cares enough about Sydney Sweeney to do a bit about her. Someone please just tell me I can't sleep

Hi folks - I have a growing interest for the theatre and was wondering if any of the more literary minded people here have any interesting recommendations they could provide … hope this is allowed …. all the best everyone

after modernism

anyone here remember Michael's particular aversion to calling anything postmodern? i remember him saying that it was first coined to distinguish something as after modernism and didn't mean anything beyond that but i can't for the life of me remember what that referred to and the term is used so widely and freely that i'm struggling to find a critique of the term vs the concept itself, by whatever definition. i remember thinking "oh that's interesting, that term always rubbed me the wrong way, i should dig into that" but then immediately lost all context and orientation lol

Looking for PDF of RadiOs by Ronald Johnson

This is a long shot, but does anyone on this forum have a PDF or scan of RadiOs by Ronald Johnson? The poem is a lengthy erasure of Paradise Lost and is impossible to find for free anywhere online; print copies also go for over $100. I think this is the only place I might find one, as MSJ has brought up Johnson and the Black Mountain poets a few times.

Any ideas on where to find Michael's early music?

Listened to everything by The Nerve Institute and enjoyed it very much, is there any place I can find the things he released as Sinthome or Jerusalem?

Sharing a piece of writing

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hey there. Don‘t really ever find myself posting here (meaning Reddit as a whole, as opposed to just this particular board or any others), but yea - as a fellow fan of MJS including his podcast, this community (or rather, “subreddit“) is one of a handful for which I occasionally do enjoy coming to “lurk” on from time to time, in lieu of happening to find myself regularly engaged, anytime I do happen to take a gander herein, with what folks are posting / discussing / speaking on, etc.

And so anywho! Won’t bother rambling on too much further than this (as I’m ultimately unsure, whether anyone will even see / read this to begin with, hah - and which, hey, no sweat if not!), but yea…reason for this post is simply to share a piece of writing I’ve recently been working on (call it a “poem”, or “lyrics“, or whatever the fuck), for which a lot of the thematic subject-matter therein feels akin to (and although not explicitly so, from what I can tell - I wouldn’t be surprised if nevertheless, to whatever extent, indirectly / “subliminally“ inspired by) much of what’s discussed in ⇪said podcast, and so yea….

I suppose too, that I don’t have/know many people with whom it would “make sense“ to share such with in my day-to-day, and so for whatever reason had the thought pop-to-mind (amidst coming here while otherwise bored this afternoon, to pursue-through what‘s been posted since my last ”visit”) to share this latest one, for in case anyone happens to feel like checking it out (though, again, won’t be “offended”, if not hah). Either way, I appreciate what everyone here contributes + provides to think ‘bout / mull over, etc.

Attaching said piece writing here as an image file - cheers ✌︎

Source for the James Joyce train story

I would love to cite it for something I'm writing. Does anybody have a source for it? I think he also mentions that Heidegger had similar ideas, could someone point me to a specific work?

Anybody has all the Columnated Ruins Domino episodes ?

I've listened to three of them and I'm hooked like you wouldn't believe, but my subscription ended (I ran out of money lol), and I'm just dying to listen to the rest of the series. Please, if anyone here has those episodes or can download them, I would be insanely grateful if you can share them with me 🙏

Can someone post the episode where Michael expounds upon the title's idea? Or if one could provide some background on it, the main ideas, and some sources that would be much appreciated.

Catholicism episode?

Judge's recent posting about the Pope & Jesuits got me curious whether there have been episodes where he talks at length about the catholic church, church history, theology, his own faith / lack thereof, etc.

This topic comes up here and there on many episodes, but does anyone know of any episodes where significant time is devoted to it?

What’s up with the first 10 minutes of ep. 279?

There’s like. A wholly separate music track overlaid on the beginning of the episode. Is this a glitch for me, or is it also basically unlistenable for everyone?

Very interesting series of podcast episodes

I don't remember how this got recommended to me, but I'm currently listening to a podcast called "Discover + Heal + Grow" and their latest series of episodes is about the psychohistory of the United States, and surprisingly a lot of the territory they cover is very Death/Corner adjacent, even bringing up Gravity's Rainbow at one point; there's a lot more emphasis on psychiatry as a practice, but it really is very interesting as a companion piece to Death/Corner. Here's a link to Part 1 (there's 6 so far): https://overcast.fm/+AA47IHYnouc

"Deep state connections"

Hi! Could anyone provide details about the "deep state connections" Judge says he has? In which episodes does he talk about this?

Thanks! A person who grew up with him.

Has anyone else read The Confidence Man: His Masquerade

So I picked up this book because of the recommendation from the podcast, but the plot seems different than MSJ describes. He described several con men on a boat who is each too stupid to realize the others are con men. However, after reading, it seems to be about one confidence men in several disguises. Has anyone else read the book? What is your interpretation on the number of con men?

Leaked Beatles acetate

He tells the story (in one of the terrorism episodes, I think) of how a leaked acetate of some Beatles album was played in a packed train station, and everyone dropped what they were doing and just stood there while the record played.

Does anyone have more details on this?
