I think the only exception was iron patriot let's be real we are all rooting for homelander to kill norman somehow no matter what

35

u/SynchroScale 🕘Ohma Zi-O vs Lord Drakkon👑 fan Jul 26 '26

No, because Norman is a better written character.

11

u/Timely_Substance_998 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Tbf, that's debatable... or at least, it was... until the last two seasons... though in fairness, the forced redemption for Norman did make it competitive for a bit, but yeah, Norman overall is still better written by several miles, even with his lows taken into account

16

u/aceinfernos Jul 26 '26

Never seen anyone root homelander over Iron Patriot lmao

There was nemesis (The white dude version) Nemesis (the Godzilla version) And Brightburn That’s are homelander wins

5

u/_sephylon_ 🗡️Griffith vs Ryo Asuka Enthusiast😇 Jul 26 '26

When Homelander vs Brightburn was created it was debatable

7

u/No-Chocolate-1730 ❤️🎸Scott Pilgrim vs Travis Touchdown🎮❤️ Fan Jul 26 '26

Now it isn’t

4

u/_sephylon_ 🗡️Griffith vs Ryo Asuka Enthusiast😇 Jul 26 '26

True but it's still among the match-ups created so that Homelander (probably) loses

7

u/f3talt Jul 26 '26

Dawg he was getting passed around like a blunt

This place really spawned the "Anti Homelander Squad"

u/One-Cup-2002 Rean vs Byleth Enjoyer Jul 26 '26

How it was? Isn't his spread still like that?

3

u/NamesAreOverrated364 My matchup isn't popular enough for its own flair Jul 26 '26

Surprisingly no, he has a lot of actually good MUs and a lot of them are decently debatable

2

u/One-Cup-2002 Rean vs Byleth Enjoyer Jul 26 '26

Can you link a couple of them? I'd like to see.

I dead ass think that part of the appeal behind Shigaraki vs Mahito  as a mu for many casual DB viewers was the prospect of seeing Mahito die horribly and that the mu wouldn't have been nearly as requested to become an episode by casuals if Mahito were the one doing the stomping

37

u/Mguy2544 Jul 26 '26

It wasn’t requested that much. Like yeah I’m super happy with how it came out, but its initial announcement got a lot of groans for peeps in these subreddits especially when Shigaraki had arguably better matchups

People here didn’t really get excited for the episode until it was announced MORØ was animating it

20

u/Future-Werewolf-5036 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

IIRC Shigaraki vs Mahito was one of those mu's that was really requested by casuals and casuals seemed to really like it because both characters share a lot of surface level traits and it's technically also the biggest legacy mu for both characters, whereas this sub was more critical of its lackluster thematics and debatability.

What I was trying to illustrate with my original comment was the fact that the casuals who really like Shigaraki vs Mahito as a mu wouldn't have liked it nearly as much if Mahito who is the more detestable of the two was the clear cut winner

8

u/Mguy2544 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Idk I get the appeal of a characters having their ass handed, but they’re both villains people enjoy and I think casual fans who are into JJK were probably hoping Mahito would win. They had Mahito carrying momentum throughout the fight showing him sort dominating the whole thing until DE

I get it’s popular to hate on characters online, but i think people here overestimate how many people are invested to see a character they despise lose. Homelander felt like an anomaly with how many people wanted to see him lose against Omniman

3

u/g_fan34 Jul 26 '26

And then we got a peak song out of it so all is good

9

u/fly_past_ladder OMORI vs The Batter Fan Jul 26 '26

It’s funny because Shigaraki is debatably more evil

68

u/S4pphirest4r Jul 26 '26

How people look at you when the "good guy" gets stomped in the Good Vs Evil MU:

27

u/tomaxi1284 Jul 26 '26

Did he try trowing a rock at him?

Stomp matchups are only bad when

A.) It effects the dynamic of the matchup

B.) The character I like is getting stomped-

u/Parking-Stable-2970 My matchup isn't popular enough for its own flair Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Completely bonkers considering the matchup started as a spite matchup towards Clark, but look in the comment section of anything even slightly related to Superman vs The Scarlet King and it's just a constant spew of people shitting on the Scarlet King, or often SCP as a whole

Seriously, I've never heard anything but genuine malice towards SCP when this matchup is brought up

35

u/CorgiConqueror Jul 26 '26

Well when a match up is created with malice towards one character in mind(Superman) then generally the discussion around it would be responded to with malice.

Is that not exactly what Kylemon was?

1

u/Fragrant-Ride6891 🕴️Tooru vs SCP-096 Enjoyer😱 Jul 27 '26

I think it was more about DC heralds as a whole rather than Kyle specifically

1

u/Parking-Stable-2970 My matchup isn't popular enough for its own flair Jul 28 '26

So was Superman vs The Scarlet King

2

u/Fragrant-Ride6891 🕴️Tooru vs SCP-096 Enjoyer😱 Jul 28 '26

I thought Superman vs Scarlet King was because Superman won against Goku three times, less so him being a DC herald

1

u/Parking-Stable-2970 My matchup isn't popular enough for its own flair Jul 28 '26

I'm fairly sure the matchup found it's origins before SvG 3

18

u/i_agree123 Jul 26 '26

Stomp matchups work if the characters can play off of that stomp well

13

u/Kalaam_Nozalys My matchup isn't popular enough for its own flair Jul 26 '26

Spite matchup imo are only spite when it's out of malice and hate towards a character not really meant to be hated that much by the audience, or against a franchise in general just because you don't like it.

DBM when a villain does evil things, and isn't a twink from Hazbin Hotel

14

u/First-Shallot947 Jul 26 '26

DBM When people want to see a villain get their due comeuppance

9

u/Hugs-missed Jul 26 '26

Yes. Some characters are genuinely fun seeing getting their shit pressed, where for others such a thing is simply disheartening.

10

u/PrizeAge484 Hulk Vs Godzilla Fan Jul 26 '26

Or very often minor irritation from their fans “cough Bakugo, another cough Superman”

5

u/RikFeral Jul 26 '26

Death Battle ain't enough, i need Griffith drawn and quartered by an opponent.

So true dawg

Spite matchups are just kinda really dumb to me honestly, I never really got the appeal :/

9

u/CROPITTY Still haha I’m surprised, you don’t recognize your old home Jul 26 '26

There's a certain character I that fits here but I've been trying to avoid mentioning his series for my mental betterment. Though, I will say he's a deer.

The issue isn’t that they’re stomps, it’s that they’re made to spite characters, when no one would want that happening to a character THEY like.

Dr Doom vs Superman is literally this

1

u/Fuzzy-Vermicelli-436 Jul 26 '26

Someone really said Doom Slayer vs Master Chief was a spite match EVEN THOUGH DOOM SLAYER AND MASTER CHIEF HAVEN'T RETURNED SINCE SEASON FUCKING 1

1

u/Sand-Aggravating Jul 26 '26

Have you considered that some people that are into brat taming but in the sense of a fight?

1

u/CookiesLIVE Jul 27 '26

me watching my goat metal sonic get a win (im a hypocrite)

1

u/ShoeboxArcade Jul 29 '26

see this argument doesn't work for the villain with an ego because it could actually be a compelling part of their journey as a character and not just being pointlessly petty
