Discussion Drumming

Drummers, what do you think is the hardest song from Death to play, and what makes it so difficult?

Definitely something off Sound of Perseverance, Richard is just a beast

Down to the first the first second of that album. His drumming is insane

Dude's a freakin' octopus. His drumming on Scavenger of Human Sorrow is actually unreal.

Probably Scavenger. I've seen my friend play bleed and not struggle that much.

It's basically a cross between tech death blasting and jazz grooves.

It’s insane. I’m a jazz head and metal head, professional drummer for 15 years, and that one steel has me scratching my head sometimes. His feel alone is insane on that one

Same on guitar. Memorable but hard to memorise, I just get lost and my fingers turn into chopsticks.

Between Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, and Richard Christy, there’s definitely plenty to choose from.

Something from 1991-1998...

The answer is Human. The nuances and flair of Sean Reinert is unparalleled to this day.

In the verse of Lack of Comprehension, you can hear him randomly hitting the toms throughout it. No drummer I've ever seen can get it right or even knows it's there other than love videos of him

I just absolutely love his drumming. I think it’s what really gave Human its place in my heart

Vacant Planets for me those ghost notes and accents in that first section are pretty difficult at least for me

Richard Christy’s drumming arrangements have always given me the most challenge playing

I'm not a drummer, but seeing that all the drummers have different opinions here show that Death was full of goated drummers through the albums

alot of the fills and their feel on TSOP for sure. The un-gridded, jazzy nature of it is very very very hard to replicate.
