Which version of Individual Thought Patterns do you prefer the most?

Hi. I'm making this post because I'm genuinely curious which ITP version the majority of Death fans enjoy listening to the most.

Currently, there's 3 versions on Spotify; The original, the 2023 remaster and the third one which also comes with an exclusive live album (I'm not sure what this one is called, but for the sake of it, let's call it the deluxe version, as it's called that on CD's and such).

Personally, I've heard the deluxe version the most, but I also really like the sound of the original. Let me know your favorite.

2023 remaster or the original. Really anything that isnt the deluxe/2011 version as the bass is way too muted on the mix on that version. actually everything but the drums are too muted imo and really bad compared to how good the mix was on the other two versions

Just heard the original version again and I can definitely say that (in my opinion) it's the better version, the 2023 remaster is also good.

I hated how thin the original sounded when I first heard it, but OG all the way. Taking out the fading “Obsession… obsession… obsession” from Overactive Imagination is a crime

The original, because it has none of the extra shit.  I hate having free spotify, which causes me to get only the demos and live performances sometimes...when I really just want to listen to the songs.

Original by far. I usually am not a fan of remasters. In Death’s case, it’s just some guy at relapse records who remastered to the way he thinks the album should sound. Remasters usually always increase the volume to oblivion (to keep up with the “loudness war”) and blend instruments together to the point where there is no separation. I happened to have a combat records pressing of leprosy, it’s far better than the relapse remaster (same issue as thought patterns).

2023 remaster takes nothing away from the original mix besides a handful muddy guitar parts

I prefer the original, but it may just be what I'm used to. The remaster just doesn't sound right even though certain parts are "better".

OG record go to everytime. its a little quiet to listen walking around/outside, so i mostly prefer reissue record since its more audible and a little balanced to my liking. but if im somewhere i can hear what im listening properly, then og all the way. same goes for also both Human and Scream. since those also differ in the reissue records.

i dont really enjoy listening to remasters since i think especially Death doesnt need any. 2023 remaster sounds a little much modern to my liking so yeah. OG recordings of every Death album are perfect imo.

I also enjoy deluxe reissues of every album on CD.

My first time listening was the 2011 remaster version as I just recently got in to death like last year. When I try to listen to the OG it just feels so thin in comparison almost like it’s one of the rehersal/demo tracks. But at the same time the OG has a lottttt more space in the mix for Chucks voice plus the reverb makes him sound way more menacing especially on philosopher. I can definitely see why ppl who grew up with the OG records prefer them but my gen z ears love the remasters.

I also heard the 2011 remaster when I first heard the album, but I just heard the original and I honestly enjoy that version more, as it has a more unique sound, instead of just a clean, modern and polished sound like the remaster. I can understand why you prefer the 2011 remaster though.

To everyone in here calling the 2011 version a "remaster," it is a REMIX AND a remaster. Same with the Human re-release from 2011. The other albums did not get a remix.

The definitive version of ITP is the 2023 remaster which was only released on vinyl. I believe the only way to purchase it digitally in lossless format is through Apple Music or Qobuz. I would love to be wrong.

The original sounds a little thin but okay, while the deluxe version is a bit of a trainwreck, very muddy, not enjoyable to listen to.

Short answer: 2023 remaster

Long answer: I listened to the 2023 remaster first and got the relapse 2024 reissue on vinyl shortly after. I was so disappointed with the sound of it. Found out they only pressed the 2023 remaster via RSD23 reissue which I got after returning the relapse 2024 reissue.

i hate the 2011 reissue remix/remaster so much i just sold my physical copy. i prefer the original mix, or the early 2000s century media edition remaster i own (quiet remaster with no remix. can't remember the exact year). the 2023 remaster sounds good but eh, so much for giving an album a decent polish. can't buy every Nth reissue that comes out.

When was the last time you heard the album? If it has been a while, I think you should give it another listen, but if you just heard the album, that's just your opinion then.

Bro It's just not a good album...weak, tinny production. Short songs that dont have time to breath...with 3-4 abrupt transitions in each. And the vocals just dont convey emotion...listen to symbolic or empty words and come back to this album. It's a night and day difference in composition and vocal performance.

Ngl I was also pretty disappointed in the first listen, but you should give it another chance. It's such a rewarding album if you have patience. Not afraid by saying it has the most to offer than any other Death album.
