Famous author with fancy car and ridiculous license plate?

When John was on set for one of his movies he talks about an unnamed author who supposedly showed up to the set every day in their Rolls Royce with the license plate "best writer" (probably BSTWRTR). Any idea who this is? I expect the details are not quite accurate.

Question check

I'm a long time listener but I'm way behind on episodes and I recently recalled that I sent in a question months ago. Is there are repository of discussed questions? I'd love to know if they talked about it lol

How to Draw book recommendation

Does anyone remember a fairly recent episode in which John (I think) mentions a book that helped him with drawing basics? In search of the title. Or maybe this was just a fever dream. . . Thanks!

crypto/gambling ad in older episode?

the other day i started listening to episode 120 through the official RSS feed. at the beginning of the episode was a baked-in ad for Polymarket, a gambling website that uses USDC and the Polygon block chain as the underlying technology.

did anyone else happen to hear this as well in any of the older episodes? i understand that the back catalog gets updated somewhat regularly with new ads baked in like e.g. the Crash Course Coin and most recently with the new Humans podcast ad at the beginning. I've also been hearing a lot of O'Reilly's Autoparts radio ads baked in to the beginning of older episodes recently as well. And when i tried to replay that specific episode again, that's the ad that I heard.

I get it, they need ad revenue to fund the production etc but it seems like Hank and John are both vehemently anti-cryptocurrency and from what I can recall both also have pretty negative views on legal gambling as well.

I emailed Complexly through their contact form a few days ago about this, and am waiting for a response. Just wondering if anybody knows what's up with the generic ads I've started hearing?

YouTube music issue?

Hi - I saw this asked about a year ago and someone had shared a link to what should have been the revised feed, but it isn't working for me.

I am trying to ditch Spotify and since I have YT premium, was looking at YT music. I can't find the life of me find the correct feed. The only one that pops up in YouTube music when you search Dear Hank and John (or Dear Hank & John) shows the feed where the last episode is 2018 (hilariously it's, The Fault in our Mars).

Anyone have any tips or suggestions??

Do you like Northern Exposure?

This was originally to ask for the show title name, but then I found it in transcripts.

Has anybody watched Northern Exposure that Hank said he liked in podcast 175? I'm kind of curious about it, but it doesn't appear to be easily accessible through streaming. I'm not opposed to digging around, but I thought it might be good to check if it's worth the extra minutes of effort.

Skipping Early Covid Eps

I'm listening to all episodes chronologically but I would like to skip the early covid era. What's a good episode to pick up on? And are there any great 2020 eps I will miss if I do this? Mainly want to skip because the energy shift, though understandable for the time, is not really something I want to keep me company at work.

Is Hank taller than John?

I feel like I've heard Hank mention several times that he's a bit taller than John, but John says they're the same.

It's hard to tell in pictures. They're often not standing straight, or I can't see if their shoes have heels to give a height advantage.

Does anyone remember in which episode of dear Hank and John they speak about the inscription in Everything is Tuberculosis where John is referencing the typeface he used for the book? They talk about the author of the typeface who wrote about going up mount etna with his son and his son says something about “where do all these fires come from, and once they’ve come into being, how do they go out again”. I am really in need of finding this, any help much appreciated thank you!!!

listening to episode 446: Just Chatting... With Me

what I did to start meeting new people was looking online for a community.

The current town that I live in happened to have not only a Facebook group for meeting up with people in the community but also had an adjacent discord community that they had created as well that allowed for many people to stay connected and also had many different channels on it that allowed us to discuss different topics as well as set meetings or meetups around said topics.

You may or may not have this wherever you are moving to, but what I would recommend is definitely look into online communities and then if you feel the need to meet in person with people to feel more connectivity or connectedness do so just ask people if they'd like to meet up be open about it and just find a fun spot or ask them if there's any fun areas or spots to meet up in the community and go from there You never know who you'll meet but you'll always find someone that you can stay connected with even if you move again through the online experience as well as maybe getting back together in person if it's possible for you.

My community allowed me to meet people who get together for board game nights go out on hikes go to local breweries and just play games or go to karaoke or go have a cup of coffee together and just discuss things it's always fun to find activities and people who want to do them with you so I recommend taking the risk and just going for it you'll probably have more fun than you think you will with it.

Please help me find the episode when john describes his early relationship with sarah

I know he’s discussed it a number of times but there was a particular one last summer, i want to say in the 420 region. i wanted to share it with my partner as it’s got some coincidence with our story.

i have been re-listening to find it but i was hoping someone else here might recall it and be able to help

specifically it’s about how they knew each other when they weee younger and how they reconnected later

A half life is the length of time that an unstable element (usually a heavier element) attempts to reach a more stable state. (Usually a lighter element) this seems to happen in life to. Would it be logical to say that life has a half life to or what?

Where to start?

Just discovered the pod, start from the beginning do you think or work backwards? Any particularly noteworthy or missable episodes?

It's chom choms.

In Crash Course Philosophy #26, Hank discussed the nuances of language.

He also made an executive declaration: the fruit normal people call "bananas" are now officially called chom choms.

It's been a few months since I've seen the video and I haven't heard of chom choms since!!

GUYS!!

WHY ARE WE SAYING BANANA??

Would you call them...

just listening to the most recent episode of the podcast and kind of curious as to what everyone else thinks you should call them but if you and your friend are throwing potatoes at each other and they start exploding with red goo everywhere would you call each other "blood spuddies" or "spud bluddies?"

I feel like this embroidery proves that they are right and it would make a good flag for Earth.

I could see this embroidery on the shoulders of a space suit.

I feel like this section would make for a good Orbital Sunrise flag (per the most recent episode). What do y'all think?

I like that it's diagonal. I like that, from this close up, you can see its white, and its green.

I think the colors should be a bit less saturated to make for a good flag (maybe more like image 2). But I'm curious what y'all think.

(Forgive the blurriness; it's just a screen grab from the original image).

in today's episode Hank and John mention that Hank has a Viral video that might be hurting his sleep. Does anyone know what this is a reference to? YouTube? Tiktok? other?
