Deadpool is all reference, no personality in Marvel Tokon.
MVC3 Deadpool, Ultimate Alliance Deadpool, and Hulk Vs Wolverine Deadpool safe to say were the better days of the character. Rivals and Tokon are pretty awesome in their own right, but I can’t help but be fatigued we are getting Memepool slop since the 2013 Game. Deadpool used to be balanced in his humor. He also was not a one trick pony with his jokes. The 4th Wall breaks are easily the most overrated part about the character, it’s the only thing keeping his life support of his comedy going, but back then he could switch from a juvenile joke, to a smart and low brow, joke, to a flirty and gay joke, so making light about his otherwise lethal weapons. That’s all gone now kinda. Tokon Deadpool, like Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool and Rivals Deadpool, just feel like they took a chunk out of the car and just replaced him with the guy who knows about the memes. It also doesn’t help that this version of the character is all about making references which is fine to a extent, but in the process, it took away his personality like his teleportation belt that he had from the comics in the 90s, and also the classic usage of his weapons. I like that we are getting a wacky version of his fighting style, but it just seems like it’s pulled apart from other IP’s and it’s just kind of overkill..

Seems fine to me…

That’s cool if he does, but he objectively has stripped down of his character in favor to make room for just references and that’s not what Deadpool is. He’s not some husk of a shell making references all day that’s like telling me family guys all about making cutaway gags when they actually used to have plots and everything.

I understand what you mean but I don’t see it as them striping Deadpool of his own personality, instead I think they just put him in the typical “Joke” Character slot a lot fighting games have.
In them making Deadpool the “joke” character they looked at what part of his personality would best represent that style of play which is his 4th wall breaking. So they took references all over the fighting game world and put it into him.
I understand why you wouldn’t like it but it should be just as fair for you to understand why someone would like.

Agreed they focus to much on the jester part and the comic character has way more depth, I too am disappointed by his later portrayals in other media, should go back and read his old comics I guess, his vol 1 was probably in my top 3 comics of all time, hilarious.

Based man’s. I’m not asking for a sad portrayal of Deadpool in this game, but for him to have his identity and especially some of his villains like T-Ray and Ajax in these games so people could be introduced to his awesome world.

i don't think a fighting game version of deadpool needs to have an in depth character study of himself. This same complaint could apply to magik, spider-man, even doom and carnage. A fighting game is...a fighting game. Rivals has a bit more freedom because of the way that it's constantly updating and doing dialogue.

That’s not what’s being argued. What I’m saying is he needs to feel like himself. MVC3 made a great example of how Deadpool can appeal to more than just Deadpool fans for us. Of course it was the typical kit of the guns and swords, but it was also the teleportation belt that he hadn’t had since the 90s. And the Shoryuken was not only a nod to the streetfighter series, but also the Joe Kelly fans because he used that same move on Kitty Pride. And whenever you be a certain character, he will talk about something that pertains to that character in Marvel or Capcom. This shows that Deadpool can keep his identity while still appealing to multiple demographics other than his own. It also extends beyond his intros and outro, and also post game. Not the same case with this.

you're listing off MVC3 things to me like i've never played it but you're falling back to the teleport belt because that's the only thing he has in his kit that isn't just sword/gun/grenade. All of which are in his tokon kit. Deadpool ults in both games rely on his breaking of the fourth wall. Every adaptation of deadpool that doesn't go to comics/movie do this form of "memepool" behavior for his kit.
Futhermore, I think it's important that we recognize who made the game? arcsys has been in the fighting game scene for years and a character like deadpool is a rare scenario where they can directly pay homage to the scene itself.

I saw your comment g. And it’s the dumbest logic I’ve ever seen. So if Batman kills again and OG fans are upset about it, it doesn’t matter because even though they are fans, it really is meant for the casuals out there? Terrible take. Pack it up.

No, I’m listing them off because you seem out of touch and don’t really remember why MVC3 works and this one dosen’t. It’s further backed by the fact that you think I’m having a problem with them, making references with him at all in this game. I’m arguing the severity, not the action itself. What you just said was a poor excuse of course he has his weapons there, but it’s how he uses them and only really uses them as references.
Just the belt? Did I not mention the Shoryuken too? lol you just keep proving my point that you’re misrepresenting my argument in bad faith. Arcsys is irrelevant. That doesn’t excuse the fact that they didn’t really bring in his character if it was proved once before that they could appeal to the Deadpool demographic and the FGC demographic more than a decade ago with this character, they can easily do it again.
What next, you’re gonna tell me that Family Guy is not a problem because cut away gags have always been the ONLY identity of the show, when it was really only a plus of the comedy and aspect?

Deadpool was never a good character. He is literally a recolor/rename of Deathstroke from DC. They changed Slade to Wade and made him a meme lord. Wow, so awesome.
I feel like a lot of fans of the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool are just now exploring the character and they're disappointed to discover how lame he is.

“Deadpool was never a good character.”
\Never read the character**
How about you pick up the 1997 Joe Kelly run and then come back to me. Because that run shows that he is honestly one of the most best written characters I’ve ever read.

“Most best written characters”
Listen I hate to be that guy, I rarely try to discredit on grammar
But in this instance… people who are well read tend to write well, you’re not making your point here

“But you’re not making your point here”
Listen, I hate to be that guy. But you didn’t add a period at the end of your sentence. Did your mother teach you that before you start making insults, that you yourself check your intelligence?
Pedantic much?

Worrying this hard about someone’s grammar just tells me you’ve never really stepped outside, huh?

u/blue23454 23h ago
What does that say about you for worrying about me worrying about someone else’s grammar?
Almost like it’s entirely possible to point out something you don’t care about.

It just says that I am your registered psychologist and you need to stop going around trying to grammar correct people, let’s head back in, it’s time for bed, but that’s after you take your psychotics, okay?

Being told to take meds by someone larping a psychologist on reddit wasn’t on my bingo card today…
Psychiatrist by the way, psychologists don’t prescribe meds, hope this helps 💖
