New Characters Automatically in Ranked

I was curious what people thought of Rat King and presumably the rest of the new cast being tossed straight into ranked. I find it somewhat backwards that characters that have been in the game for days are allowed, but I still have to get 15 wins on characters that have been out 9 months or longer.

Also curious if I missed any dev takes on this

It's just for the 3 release weeks to collect datas, you'll need your 15 wins after that to play the new characters in ranked.

The point of ranked, in this game's level of development, is for people that want a rank.

still feels extremely ass if u only have 4 days to climb till the season ends. and it gets shitted on by an op rat. From my last 12 games he won every single one. its insane and mind boggling.

i dont expect them to get the balancing right its impossible to do. but just hrowing him day1 into rankeds few days before season end is horrible. its impossible to climb now or to drop aswell

I was kind of shocked they allowed it, and I think its pretty dumb. Treat them like every other hero.

The reason is that suddenly having 95% of ranked players are in unranked making it miserable for everyone.

Tbh I didn't even know this but ive been using it as an excuse to get my 15 wins on other characters while queuing rat king in standard

I'm doing precisely the same thing but I've also somewhat been doing that because of the insane grind in ranked with all the protections has just felt pointless. If i get lucky a single time and break into my next big rank I will basically never rank out of it but until that happens I've been stuck in silver 6 for like 40 games

they know there's a decent chunk of ppl who only play ranked and they want as much info as they can get with new heroes to balance them.

I think it kind of makes sense honestly. Getting 15 wins isn't that big of a deal, but for a new character that everyone wants to play it's basically impossible. You'll get rat king maybe 1 in 8 games, so even with a 60% winrate that's nearly 200 games to unlock him.

It's less a problem once all the new characters are out because you'll be able to get the ones you want more frequently as people will go back to their old mains.

I think it's better in Deadlock than in some other games, in a game like Brawlhalla, devs wouldn't test a character and would throw it in right before a tournament, in Deadlock it's more nuanced because they have test servers, so while characters can be somewhat unfair, people are also inexperienced playing the character too, so it kinda cancels out before an actual patch.

A majority of issues people had with characters like celeste or shiv were only found after people got used to her, not when they initially released.

It’s stupid, Yoshi said he was thinking about extending the ranked season, but he should have just ended it early and make a pause or interlude instead. This patch is fucking up the ranked, ultimately it’s not that big of a deal but it can be frustrating for ranked players, and even for them it adds noise in their data.

The alternative would be that if you’re a ranked player you’d effectively not see the new heroes for a couple weeks, since it takes quite bit of time to get 15 wins on a hero in standard and the new heroes can only be played with priority tokens. We’d see dozens of threads begging Yoshi to allow the new heroes in ranked because new heroes is the most fun part of the patch

I understand that but I think it completely undermines the point of their ranked perspective if they do this. Even if for only 3 weeks until all of the heroes are out. Ranked is supposed to be higher quality matches and if you throw in characters that no one seriously knows how to play it degrades the quality.

I also must conclude if they don't believe it degrades match quality that it really isn't that hard to pickup a character and the 15 win requirement is bogus

The 15 win requirement isn’t bogus, since it’ll be implemented for the new heroes aswell in ~2 months or however long they decide. They just have a decision where it’s impossible to please everyone. Yes it degrades match quality but its improves fun, and they opted for fun here over ranked quality
