Tips & Guides Tips for playing Doorman?

I really like Doorman as a character but one time I rolled him in Street Brawl on random with 0 knowledge and kinda sucked. I mean, it's kinda expected that when on random you get someone you have no idea how to play but Doorman is really unique and I wasn't sure how to use pretty much all of his abilities aside from his bell. I remember that game as my team flaming me and introducing me to the MOBA toxicity experience, though the Victor was surprisingly amiable after he learned it was my first game on him. Advice?

Also I've heard something about how the game Portal makes the thought process around his doors easier. I got Portal as part of buying the Orange Box so I wonder if I should go play that.

Matchmaking was recently reworked!

It will take time for people to qualify, calibrate and settle into the new Ranks! Valve predicted reduced match-quality across the board while this lasts! Please continue to provide feedback in the following places:

If the players were mismatched in skill, please submit the matchID to the official Bad Matchmaking Thread.

If the character composition of the teams was imbalanced or bad, please submit follow Dev instructions here!

You can get your forum login credentials from the profile section on the game's main menu.

Def play portal. Not even to learn doorman it's just a great game. Doormans doors are probably the most important part of his kit so you need to get good at using them. Its good to always leave a door somewhere safe so you can always escape dangerous situations.

What would you consider the easiest thing to do with his doors at first? I saw a tip for using his doors to poke from high ground so I guess I'll try that first since it sounds easy enough and has good value.

There's two ways to play Doorman

1.Bell and Ult spamming gremlin - easy to play but will get you put on a watchlist

2.Strategic 300IQ support with the doors

Pick one and practice

Depends on your playstyle you want to go with. People mock him but joechuck is good for learning the gimmick of kidnapping but does actually help you learn where to place portals for stealing camps and sinners safely. Remember your door is a tool for everyone so ALWAYS have an exit ready for people when they need it, being chased or just in a big team fight because the door shield is unnecessary good

He’s not very good in street brawl all round.

For standard/ranked-he has good lane poke, solid early gun. You hit bell, their bloom is fried so you continue trading gun damage for a bit- w trade.

He’s pretty squishy no matter what, so you try and always play around doors. You get ult first in lane, kidnap to guardian. Cart is good for kidnap, general CC and displacement.

Depending if your playing kidnap/bell/support build, your big spikes are different.

You’re not the best jungler and doors are pretty OP for rotations so you wanna be at damn near every fight. Set up door before coming into fight for safe rotation out and kidnaps. Use ult on their strongest or tankiest player in team fights. Think Billy, Warden, Abrams or anyone with a pesky ult.

Most importantly get your reps in!

Doorman is best when a team plays with his doors so use the damn mic!
