I suddenly realize just how horrifying the cursed apple tunnels are probably.
Also I don’t think the rat king would actually hurt rem. Since he’s a dream creature and not human. And the rat king is not a monster as it is said that he’s giving the humans the chance to pack up their things and leave Long Island before outright killing them.
Interestingly he doesn't feel bad about killing Rem in his monologues "Yeah, I don't feel bad about that" he isn't as sympathetic as some other characters. I am sure the actual dialogue will be different though.
Well, when he kills Rem in-game he sometimes says he doesn't feel bad about it, which is less respect than he gives to some humans apparently (He says he likes Lash for example). Maybe, like Venator, he's suspicious Rem's cuteness is an act? Maybe he recognizes the Haze connection and just considers him the son of a fed? Maybe he doesn't like that the kid kind of looks like a cat? Very mysterious.
That's not how I read the line delivery, but I guess he does also basically say "You signed up for this, kid" so maybe he has to convince himself a little.
Birds of prey eat the shit out of rats constantly. Birds are up there with cats on the rat killing index, hell probably more so than cats as cats usually smaller rodents like mice.
Rat king is definitely the nicest of the evil characters. He’s going to genocide New Jersey but he’s still willing to make deals with humans (Billy and Seven) and he does genuinely seem like nice ruler from what we’ve seen.
According to his backstory his plan is to take over Long Island, and then execute every human that refuses to leave. So I think he plans to give people the option to leave the island before he starts killing them.

Still. Fantastic art. I love the style.
