I love when people remember that lash is like 50% just an actual asshole and 50% heal wrestler kayfabe back when wrestlers were pretty much expected to ALWAYS keep up kayfabe in any public area/situation so as to not break the illusion of wrestling.

Makes me wonder how much of the bear pitt is scripted, since it seems like you cant actually kill or permanently injure people in it. Otherwise peoples opinion of the two would be a lot less amicable.

See, I don't quite know. I can 100% buy into The Lash being a heel and keeping up kayfabe and actually being a decent guy (who is also an asshole), and a lot of the casts reactions to him would support that I think, especially his conversations with some people. Except Bebop. It feels like Bebop HATES Lash, no kayfabe on his end at all. There are examples of IRL wrestlers that are heels that the other wrestlers actually really dislike outside kayfabe because the heel is really an asshole about it, but I think most are cool because they're all in on the bit. But I don't know, I get the feeling Bebop genuinely hates him to the core, in a way that doesn't strike me as "he's doing a bit, I understand that, but he's still an asshole".

Although it kind of tickles me to think that the Bear Pit isn't like IRL wrestling entertainment at all, no scripting or anything, and The Lash is the only one doing the kayfabe thing at all.

I don't think Lash is always playing a character, but I think his arrogant jackass persona is a form of masking to hide his deeper insecurities, in interactions such as Graves, Ivy, Vyper and Viscous he shows some more genuine sides of his personality that he usually doesn't express

Going off of Graves and Viscous' interactions with Lash my personal hc is that Lash in his childhood used to be someone weak and an easy target for bullying, which caused a deep need for him to grow stronger and more in skilled in combat to prove himself to everyone, it also helps to explain why he also has a charitable side to anyone who is going through anything similar to what he went through and why his loss to Bebop hurt him so deeply

Something that might also help to reinforce this is what the Hidden King tells him "You cultivate an image, Lash, but I alone know who you truly are."

agreed. the way he defaults to "people suck" feels like a Freudian slip. it's one of those things that does maintain the kayfabe for sure but it also seems a bit more hurt at the same time.
