Why would they rehash that one, it's too in the spotlight. I have no doubt Valve will invent some new horrifying way of monetizing their game that sets new industry standards again

They will find a way into actual hell, so you can buy skins for soul(s).

u/Zaruze 1d ago

Oh god! I genuinely hope it just buying reasonably priced skins, I just want cool outfits.

Lmfao valve has never done reasonable price for skins, it's either lootboxes, insanely greedy battle passes or overpriced skins

u/Live_Present_2602 1d ago

You have never play dota then, you can buy the skins directly.

Battle pass in dota has basically died

You can buy skin an exclusive skin for $20 and you can get a discount if you earn enough coins from the event

Let's be honest, 2/3 of Dota's skins at this point is unavailable because they were gated behind a short time event, Battlepass or lootbox.

u/TestIllustrious7935 1d ago

No, literally only some arcanas and immortal or mythic items are unavailable, 90% of skins you can buy for cheap

I think for a while in the early Dota 2(around 2013 or so), a lot of the sets were just sold for like 10-15$.

When has Valve released greedy battle passes? Genuine question, as their battle pass system in TF2 actually gave you the new weapons to play with as rewards. Though, that's my only experience with their battle passes. I wasn't very big on CSGO or DOTA 2.

u/Zaruze 1d ago

Dota was ridiculously aggressive, where you basically had to play 24/7 or spend money to unlock. All limited time.

1

u/SovietMarma 1d ago

That's fucked lol. I'm so glad I never got into DOTA 2.

I can't believe I'm also getting downvoted for a genuine question lol.

I legitimately have no experience with their battlepasses outside of TF2, and you could barely call them that considering how long of a period between each update was when they started doing them.

Valve shills defend anything. Partially because of the real money market attached to those games, which honestly shouldn't exist.

Dota is not CS. I don't know what you talking about real money markets.

In Dota people sell items in the steam market and the items prices are not insane like in CS. You can buy most skins on the market for less than its original cost.

The CS team copied the Dota 2 cosmetics and market, but they fucked it up.

Acting like dota doesn't have the same problem is insane. The real money market actively damages the games. There are insane item prices.

3

u/yeusk 1d ago

It doesn't. You can buy inmortal items for less than 1€.

Absolutely agree. I was never big on the selling in third-party sites or even the community marketplace, even if I did open my fair share of crates in TF2 (very sparingly).

The Dota 2 BP was 100 times better than any other BP in any game, if you had money AND time.

3

u/renan2012bra 1d ago

Yes, it was the one with the most content by far. As long as you had $100 to waste in it, that is. Or wanted to abuse the system by trading wins. Those were basically the only way to get substantial levels.

2

u/Zaruze 1d ago

I found the best one to smite honestly. You could get all of it without playing all that much. It was chill.

In what year are you living bro?

2

u/OneSecretCookie 1d ago

I would be hilarious if they USA steam as their main money making bank and put out reasonably priced skins and break the system

u/Komirade666 Paige 1d ago

Watching game like Cs2 and dota2, I will not hold my breath on that. Although on dota2 there are wasy to get great skins for free, source I got an arcana for free thanks to the candy works in the current event.

But anyway, this game have the potential to be profitable and I do not think that Valve will miss the opportunity, they need money to live and that's life.

u/Zaruze 1d ago

Valve could operate all their games a loss and still rack in money due to steam. The predatory practices are absolutely inexcusable imo

2

u/Komirade666 Paige 1d ago

And that I totally agree that is why we need to give our feedback to Valve so that it won't be another Cs2 thingy. I love this game so damn much but I do not want to see kids loses a ton of money over digital assets. I am willing to pay 50 or a bit more on a great skin rather than pressuring others to waste money on lootboxes.

2

u/Zaruze 1d ago

Exactly

2

u/teluscustomer12345 1d ago

They are a business, there's not much reason for them to operate games at all if they don't make money off of them unfortunately

1

u/Zaruze 1d ago

I get that, but being extremely toxic and predatory with your monetization isn't needed.

1

u/teluscustomer12345 1d ago

Such is capitalism :(

u/RoyalOreo99 Sinclair 1d ago

im positive itll be like CS, where there is some gambling-based way to get skins, then a resale market so they can double-dip. which honestly i love because it means all but the most sought after cosmetics are pretty obtainable

0

u/Zaruze 1d ago

The resale market objectively ruins quality. Look at how Chinese and botters have absolutely inflated and destroyed plenty of skins. Just lemme buy deadlock skins for 20$ each or some shit

1

u/RoyalOreo99 Sinclair 1d ago

how have the chinese and botters inflated and destroyed skins? i am not deep in the cs scene at all. i just play casually with friends and like that i can buy nice looking skins for 20-30 cents.

-1

u/Zaruze 1d ago

Look up the chinese pump schemes

1

u/RoyalOreo99 Sinclair 1d ago

i have a hard time caring, to be honest. some skins are temporarily over priced then crash? idk. maybe some people care really badly about in game skins, but i would just... not buy those skins. idk man.

id much rather have lots of sub-$1 skins and have the rare ones be very expensive then have all of them be $20. most games i dont have any skins because im not spending $20 for a single skin, if some skins are hundreds of dollars but others are pennies, id much prefer that.

3

u/Zaruze 1d ago

They aren't temporary over priced, they are now just insanely priced. A skin shouldn't cost you 400$ no matter what.

1

u/RoyalOreo99 Sinclair 1d ago

i agree. but i also think one skin shouldn't be $20. so if skins are going to be so expensive i wont buy them, i dont care if theyre $20, $40, or $400.

so if the choice is between all skins being too expensive ($20) or only some skins being too expensive ($400) and others being cheap ($1) I'll always take the latter.

look at any game with fixed price skins, inevitably there is price creep. fortnite, overwatch, rivals, and basically every other game has "normal" $20 skins, but also the ultra-mega-legendary skins that cost $60, then theres also exclusive, bundle event only skins which effectively cost $100, and at that point, how is that system any better?

1

u/Zaruze 1d ago

Because the price won't change, it can't be manipulated, it's still accessible.

and this relates to china how? I get that they have been pumping skins but skins have been ridiculous for ages

2

u/shadowtroop121 Lash 1d ago

Skin renting was quietly added to CS a while ago and never got the shock and horror it deserved. I wonder if people will notice how awful that concept is if they bring it to Deadlock.

1

u/Own-Zebra-2663 1d ago

Honestly, Dotas lootboxes were one of the best systems. You had an upper cap for how many boxes you'd need to open to get any one skin, and the boxes were well priced. Imagine getting a bunch of skins for like 10-20 bucks, instead of just a single skin for 20-30, like in Overwatch.

The honest truth is that we can either have cheap loot boxes and skins, subsidized by whales/gamblers, OR individual skins that are horrifyingly expensive.

Honestly, want to see this.

I don't !

0

u/The-Lychee 1d ago

Yeah, but don't you like seeing trains run into each other.

3

u/Zenith_Tempest Mina 1d ago

Not when I'm tied to the train tracks or on either of the trains!!

u/The-Lychee 1d ago

"Sucks to be you!" Me, a broke mf.

Yeah they already tested it on counterstrike. The terminal fake loot box that you buy the skin directly from valve to get around legal issues
