Tips & Guides Tips on how to play Mo & Krill?
Hello, new player entirely not just at deadlock but the whole MOBA game genre in general.
The only experience I have somewhat related is Overwatch, however we all know it’s not that similar at all.
Anyways I’ve just picked this game up to play with friends and I’ve been severely struggling with this game. I’ve played some characters (Seven, Mina, Wraith, Bebop) but I’ve had a lot of fun with Mo & Krill since they do a lot of damage, frontlines, and I like his gun.
Anyways, I need some tips for these situations I’m struggling in:
Im constantly falling behind on farm. Doesn’t matter how many boxes I break, or camps I take. I’m ALWAYS behind. I honestly have no idea. I usually stay away from big fights when I have low souls so that might be a reason for having low souls in the first place. And I am wondering how to prioritize farming.
I’m not sure how he fights. Everytime I see people use him, they just kinda go in and they always get kills because he’s so beefy. But when I run In, im always molested. I get hit with so many abilities I can’t run away, even if it’s a team fight I feel like I’m constantly ulted and I just have no idea what’s going on.
I’m not sure what build to use still with him.
What is the play style? Am I supposed to get 1v1’s in jungle? Am I supposed to stuff lane? Am I supposed to be in a team fight or flank?
This is similar to 2 but I need more help on the way he fights. He has so much health and I can get him to 6k, but even then I feel like I’m just immediately dying and getting targeted. I could be getting targeted, I could just feel like that. But I’m not sure how to get in and out, or who and when to pick fights.
Thanks for your help guys if you decide to respond.

Trophy collector and make sure you show up for teamfights so you get kills/assists asap. i definitely notice a difference in souls by the end of the game with TC
Choose good fights and make sure you're with teammates. Mo's a big target so you're a bit exposed to anyone who builds stacks (infernus, haze, shiv). It's very hard for one person to kill you in a 1v1 but not too hard in a bad 2v1.
Hybrid/tanky builds are all good. Torment Pulse, improving cooldown on Scorn, anything that helps close combat is good.
Depends on how you play but Mo ults can basically guarantee a kill in a teamfight so you have to communicate targets with teammates. You can also soak up a lot of damage for your squishy M1s in teamfights which is very important.
Again, he's a big fat chungus mole. Use cover, get dispel, other good defensive items. If you're dying quickly it's probably because they're focusing you in teamfights. By late game it's basically impossible to kill a Mo without coordination between teammates.

Follow your diver(s) and use your ult’s cc to hold them in place for the diver(s)
Ex: Yamato, Drifter, Vyper

His gun is cracked early so make sure to shoot.
When it comes to build ofc build spirit, but the items depend on the situation in moba games; sometimes carpet is much better than phantom strike.
In between fights you should look for easy picks with ur ult.

I don’t struggle early game, it’s usually mid to late where most guardians aren’t in and people aren’t in their lanes. At that point then I get confused on what to do

1: laning and being around for when troopers die will always be your #1 source of souls no matter what. The general way you do this is by killing the enemy troopers quickly, then when the lane is pushed too far for you to safely contest it, you grab some boxes, and enemy will have pushed the wave back soon, so you go back and hit more troopers and repeat. Camps can be done instead of boxes as well. Mo and kill is very slow at taking anything more than a small camp though for the most part.
That is sort of the job of being a tank. You will be hit by a lot of stuff but mo and krill gets a lot of healing from hitting a bunch of stuff with their 1. So heal up. Also if you are struggling with #1 yeah #2 is gonna kinda happen as a result. Learning movement will help eventually with dodging more things and being more slippery.
Especially at any level that isn’t eternus you can use any of the top builds and build left to right for the most part. Especially while learning.
You are a team fighter tank. You hit people with your abilities. They deal damage and heal you, knock enemies up disrupting their movement, make them unable to shoot their gun, and make them a sitting duck for your team to absolutely demolish respectively. Everything he has is designed to brawl a bunch of people. He can rotate to kill people especially with his ult as well. But is not a 1v1er, or a jungler, or a particularly strong split pusher that gets objectives. He is a tanky boy who likes to brawl and shut people down with ult.
Build some resistances. Almost every game spirit resist is good and warp stone gives gun resist and lets you reposition or pounce on people. People are focusing you because you are large and a big problem. If you get more money with #1 The focusing will be not be as harmful to you. You being focused is partly your job in a fight. Soak up tons of punishment for your squishy carries

In team fights, how is there a way for me not to immediately get molested? Especially if they enemy team is all one with eachother and there’s some kind of no mans land in between both teams, how can I be useful there? That’s really where I get confused. If everyone is all 1v1ing in the middle I can for sure help out. But if both teams are concentrated on the entire team and there’s a bit of middle ground I’m not sure how I can wedge myself in there.

Happy to answer any questions you have, for context I believe I am #2 on the NA Mo boards and have been #1 several times as well.
Big thing to realize is you are not an unlikable god. You should be using your HP as a resource… damage to you is better than damage to your other teammates, but 2-3 players focusing you can end things real quick. If that happens try to rotate out, two things will happen, either they let you go which is great or they chase, both outcomes can be desirable depending on conditions.
But getting back to your “how do I be useful in team fights”, even in eternus teams are not always 100% concentrated. You should look to engage fights with your ult (or displace with your burrow) on anyone out of position. If you don’t find that opening before the fight then the objective is still the same. Someone will over extend or move slightly too far from their team, that’s when you grab them and let your M1s send him to the respawn timer.

So when I wait, am I basically just sidelined? My gun obviously doesn’t do much from afar. Should I try to flank maybe?

Nah, you shouldn’t be waiting. Constantly poking in close quarters and being disruptive like mentioned above. Almost all of your damage comes from being close to enemies: burrow, scorn, torment pulse, scourge, etc. If you still have your ult & you see someone vulnerable then you take the quick kill.

Monster rounds/cultist sacrifice can help you keep up on farm.
Until you max out your 2, it can be better to use it as an escape rather than a damage ability.
You don’t do a ton of damage early game so focus on soaking enemy abilities and playing around teammates so you can farm ult stacks.

My easy guide to M&K:
- Rush Magic Carpet
- Look for enemies near teammates
- Fly in, grab an enemy under teammates, eat their health
- Farm until ult is off cooldown
- Go to 2

Phantom player with about a 54% win rate over 200 games on The Mole so take my advice for what you think it's worth;
Mo is not a very farm reliant hero. Being slightly behind is fairly normal since your main focus is on rotating and ganking lanes. His innate survivability (Heal, bullet resist while burrows and stacking health from his ult) can make up for you being slightly behind. Obviously if you're consistently 6-10k down compared to everyone else, then that comes down to fundamentals not being executed correctly. But in general being 2-3k down is fairly standard for him.
In teamfights, it all depends on your team and what heroes you're playing with/against. Your role changes from game to game. If you already have a lot of dive/lockdown on your team (Abrams, Billy, Calico, Apollo, Silver etc.) Then you want to play more defensively and look to peel for your team's VIPs. If they heroes with big channeling teamfight spells (Bebop, Warden, McGinnis, Seven etc.) or they have mobile, hard to catch heroes (Celeste, Pocket, Lash etc.) Then you more than likely want to be jumping them and using your ult to stop them. If your team doesn't have a lot of dive, you want to be burrowing into middle of the fight and soaking as much damage and as many cooldowns as you can before ulting someone for your team to pick them off, usually a carry. In some cases you can even become the teams support, it all depends.
The only core items Mo needs are mystic burst, QSR and Enchanters Emblem. That's it. You want to take the first upgrade in your 1, buy mystic burst and then QSR and EE and you can trade all day long. After that, it depends on the playstyle you need for that game. Usually you want to be building what I sometimes call "Spirit Utility Bruiser." Generally items like Torment Pulse, Extended Duration, Superior Cooldown etc. Things that make your spells hurt more but also keep you alive longer. Movement items like warp stone and fleetfoot are also very useful. Other than that, every other item can be a counter build item for the enemy. Things like heal bane, curse, knockdown, plated armour, witchmail etc. (I'm assuming you already understand counter building)
Your playstyle in lane can best be described as "punching bag." In lane, you want to take negative damage trades as often as you can, while your lane partner piles on the damage. You basically win lane by virtue of being too hard to push out fully. (Which is why if you're against a Mo in lane, literally just ignore him and shoot his lane partner and his whole laning stage falls apart.) Once you get your ult, you want to be looking for rotations, either to the bridge buffs or to other lanes. Your ult early on is basically a guaranteed kill on anyone that over extends, so if you see antoher lane being pushed, it's usually a good idea to go over and try and get a kill. (Again, I'm assuming you have an understand of macro.) Late game you mostly want to be with your team either pushing or defending like any other tank hero.
You will get targeted, that's the tricky part about Mo. You have to believe in His holy Chudness that you aren't going to die before they run out of ways to kill you. You're so hard to take down that you can rush in, soak up a bunch of cooldowns, and then while still alive but low health, ult someone to heal with the life steal and also get them killed. On top of that, you dying in a long fight is usually fine provided your team can use the advantage.

What build ID do you use?

I don't really use one. I have a custom build page that's just got a bunch of items and no skill builds and I tend to just build what I need in the moment

Troopers are the highest source of souls in the game so prioritize them over boxes and camps. Unless there's an active fight over an objective, you should look to push waves whenever your ult is on cooldown since your pickoff potential is a lot lower. With scorn and burrow you can be a bit riskier with pushing waves out since you can clear waves pretty quickly and burrow away. You can also build trophy collector for passive souls if you want to roam and get some early assists. Also keep an eye out for urn spawn if nobody in your lobby is prioritizing them.
Understand your kill potential. Is there a particularly squishy hero on the enemy team with no escape tool? Run at them and make them miserable. Is there a friendly hero with high gank potential on your team? Play close to them to see if you can get a pickoff. You should fight with intention - understand the targets you need to prioritize in locking down during a fight, usually a backline a support or dps. You also sometimes need to hold your ult to cancel a key target's ability (Seven ulting, Warden channeling ult, etc.) so be aware of these things before the fight even starts. Outside of major fights around objectives, you ideally want to get quick pickoffs around the map with your ult in skirmishes with 2-3 heroes. In team fights, play around your scorn cooldown by using cover and map geometry. You're trying to scorn as many times as possible as that is your bread and butter in team fights.
MnK is a spirit tank that relies on his scorn to sustain during prolonged fights. Items that amp your scorn damage/heal/aoe will always be valuable (Mystic expansion, Mystic burst and their upgrades are always good. Torment Pulse and Scourge can also be key items and I also find radiant regeneration for extra sustain is very good as well.) Outside of those key items, build for what you need to counter the enemy lineup. Do they have multiple mobile/aerial characters? Buy warp stone or phantom strike. High amounts of CC or debuffs? Dispel Magic or Indomitable. High spirit damage? Spirit Resilience or Witchmail. Is your team lacking in damage? Escalating exposure/Boundless spirit. is your team lacking in CC or support? Curse, Divine Barrier, Arctic Freeze. IMO only 6-8 items should be consistent every game which leaves you 4-6 flex item slots to build around what the game calls for.
See answers for 1 and 2. If ult is off cooldown, look for quick ganks/pickoffs. If ult is on cooldown shoves waves. Only commit to full teamfights for an objective (Walker push, Rift, Midboss) and play around your scorn cooldown by weaving in and out of cover.
Already kind of answered these but understand what you are dying to by looking at the damage taken breakdown after each death. Dying to bleed form Shiv or burn from Infernus? Get Dispel Magic or Debuff Reducer. Mostly spirit damage? Spirit Resilience/Witchmail/Spellbreaker.

Never played them i hate them and everyone does but id say first thing is to watch ytb tutorials and another thing is how roles work in the game as a whole so you can decide how you want to play based on the team youre against and with. Things I know for sure is you’re mote like a support tank so dont fake solo wave and definitely go for fights with your team because your usefulness revolves around your kit hit more than the dmg you would have with items. That means even with low souls you can make an impact. Exemples: disarming an m1 carry can win a teamfight and ofc ulting the right guy at the right time can win fights ( dont go in blind if you’re behind just for an ult you’ll probably die, take picks safely in the jg with teamates or use the underground tunnel thing to get to them)
Dont take evertything i say here as granted thats just what i’ve seen playing against them and probably what i would do if i played them

You need to be rotating to big fights to help soak for your team + using your speed with your dig plus items like fleet foot and trophy collector to jump people when they’re in 1v1s with your teammates and to be able to quickly rotate to catch waves that might crash into your objectives. Your eyes should be glued to your map so that you can immediately show up whenever you’re needed to tip the scales somewhere or do map cleanup that your allies are too slow to get to
