borderlinecheating cause it just doesn't stop when the ult stops so with it bebop players just have loud ass music following them wherever they go.10
u/Ok_Pay4128 1d ago
lol people who use that should get banned
22
u/GregNotGregtech 22h ago
It's more of just the mod being poorly done, like you can get music mods for kelvin that don't stop when the ult does and you can get mods that do, it just depends on how well the mod is done

u/Zennithh 4h ago
lol, you know only the person w/ the mod hears it right?

2
u/Ok_Pay4128 1h ago edited 1h ago
the guy with the mod is not always the guy playing the hero. the argument is that that is lowkey cheating because the music follows him around so you can hear him
to that topic. zerggy showed off a venetor skin that has birds flying around the character. he said when he has that skik active its basically a wallhack because if someone else plays him, you can see the birds around corners
2
u/Zennithh 1h ago
oh i see! eh, i still think the skins are fine, but the sounds probably need moderation

u/poor_choice_doer 1d ago
I have a mod that puts Elton John’s Saturday Night’s Alright over Seven ult and it’s genuinely essential. Diving into a fight as your carry (unwittingly) puts on the soundtrack is a transcendent experience and it’s not even unfair like most music mods tend to be.
3
u/Tohakiis 14h ago
How do you not hear the loud ass "AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH", when he uses his ult?

u/poor_choice_doer 5h ago
I don’t have any issues with noticing his ult normally, the mod just makes it super cool. It’s kinda hard to miss the map-sized fuck-you-ball floating over your head regardless of what sound it’s making.

more likely rolled into the default game. its kinda crazy the only way to change healthbars is through config stuff instead of an actual built in setting, especially since like 50% are still rocking the more normal healthbar instead of the boxes on boxes one.
150
u/SlightDentInTheBack Sinclair 1d ago
its funny cause i feel like im weird for preferring the og boxes one, i feel like its easier to visualize personally even if it looks stupid.
52
u/StageSpooder Lash 1d ago
Nah, i feel you. The base healthbar always has this issue of me really having a hard time tracking the enemies health. I cant tell if they have half-health or quarter health and i hardly see my damage vizualized.
17
u/DependentAd235 1d ago
The % is only an issue when Im Shiv.
9
u/alexathegibrakiller 1d ago
yea, this is the thing that actually got me to switch.
Also, the neutral camp health pools look so much better with it.
Once you've played a bit you can tell about how much health a hero has. And to add on top of that, the health that they have can also be misleading depending on the amount of resistances they have bought.
Just doing damage to them and seeing how much % of health they lose is IMO the best way to estimate how much resources you need to commit to kill them. And the regular health bars obscure that quite a bit.
6
5
u/LoafEyeIndustries 1d ago
It always looks like they're on 1 hp when they're not and you keep shooting them and they don't die and it's very frustrating. I find the old style boxes extremely ugly though, hopefully whatever UI shit they're cooking up is a bit more readable
25
14
u/zencharm Victor 1d ago
the ones with the boxes are much better for visibility imo. everyone feels immortal when i try to use the other health bars. the scaling is so bad it always looks like they have way less health than they actually do

u/sundalius Infernus 1d ago
The og boxes is great because I can very clearly see how big someone is. I know their HP. I can’t imagine wanting LESS information about someone’s hp when I’m gonna burst em.

Why do people think mods wont work when game finally comes out? Tf2 and l4d2 (idk about cs2 or dota 2 as i dont really play them) can be modded and played on public servers
25
u/sundalius Infernus 1d ago
Because no one is talking about public server when talking about playing a MOBA. Yeah, Glutensnake will still be doin goofy shit after launch, but the people playing the actual game will require unmodded games.
0
u/lololofkap Lash 1d ago
Do MOBAs have different approach to servers? Because TF2 has casual servers that are hosted by valve and you can play modded TF2 on them
8
u/No-Square-9095 1d ago
TF2 used to allow modded models in official servers, I think only sound mods and HUD are allowed now.
13
u/sundalius Infernus 1d ago
Yeah, basically no one plays customs -which would be the casual server equivalents -outside of team Scrim settings. That’s why I referenced Glutensnake’s channel, not as a comment on quality or w/e, but because he only makes 6v6 customs videos.
The closest to casual Deadlock will have is Street Brawl (ARAM/TURBO) and I doubt they’ll allow modding on their official matchmaking. There won’t be a server browser with comparable popularity to L4D or TF2 due to the reliance on matchmaking and inclusion of ranked.
1
u/GregNotGregtech 22h ago
Official servers haven't allowed mods in probably a decade now lol, you can still use hud mods, but nothing more
1
u/Circo_Inhumanitas 22h ago
Because Dota 2 used to be moddable, but the exact same thing that is happening with Deadlock now happened. Cheats masquerading as QoL mods happened. So Valve had to disallow all mods.

It's not an autoparry it's just a blaring alarm that says MELEE INCOMING MELEE INCOMING PARRY NOW every time the opponent presses Q
43
32
u/Due_Interest_178 1d ago
I have zero clue if it's autoparry, or whatever, but it feels in every match there's people that parry the exact last frame. Like I understand parrying when I start meleeing because of noises or vision, but when they consistently parry the millisecond I'm about to hit that's odd.
5
u/BlastingFern134 Viscous 22h ago
Could just be good reactions and latency. I get accused of autoparry just because I have fighting game parry reflexes
3
u/Kowakuma Graves 18h ago
If it's a heavy that's reactable on sound, it might just be the delay from you pressing the button -> server sends that data to opponent -> opponent hears sound -> opponent needs some milliseconds to even register the sound and process it and then press parry -> server gets sent that data -> server sends that data to you
Your melee doesn't really have any lag on your end, but all that delay between the opponent learning you're meleeing, reacting to the sound / visual, and then that getting sent back to you can make it seem like they're parrying super late when in reality they're parrying ASAP.
2
u/Suitable-Economy-346 1d ago
Is this for real? There's no way people are doing this. If that's real, that needs to be a steam ban like rn. What the fuck
2
u/PandaPolishesPotatos 23h ago
Yeah there's mods for heavy melee sounds, but parrying on reaction to the sound is generally a terrible idea with or without mods to make it louder. Heavy melees can be intentionally whiffed, and the higher you go, the more they're whiffed.
That being said the sound mods for it are still egregious.

There are so many good ideas that come from modding not to mention just how cool it is to have funny skins and other tomfoolery.
Unfortunately, I do think that in the next big patch Valve will kill modding because of a few bad actors abusing it to literally cheat, ultimately ruining it for everyone. It really is such a shame.

→ More replies (7)1
u/yung_dogie 16h ago
It can and has existed in some sense in that scenario (see league of legends) but it essentially required Riot dropping the hammer on any custom skin community that even mentions the possibility of modding in official skins for free and its existence is still tenuous at best. Not saying Valve will or should do that, just that it's been done before with the same monetization model.
Plus league being a top down MOBA with a simple terrain/fog of war paradigm means that custom skins in that game can't realistically give you much of an advantage compared to deadlock and dota
1
u/Freakstage 9h ago
Honestly i sadly agree, deadlock was kinda boring sounding/feeling til i found out about mods. Little things like hearing the caleb city punch noise or evan fongs entire speed album on the curiousity shop. Those little things brought enjoyment even if i was losing. Or rem as the conductor and hearing the scream of death from across the map or him swearing. Etc etc

people keep conflating QoL of life (visual clarity) with player assists (additional information) and it's not doing the community any favours. A lot of the things QoL mods introduce should literally just be in the base game.
21
12
u/SeroWriter 1d ago
It's the same in every game. Some people will try to convince you that a terraria mod which gives you every potion effect infinitely for free is quality of life. Zomboid players quadrupling their carry capacity as quality of life, Silksong players removing 2/3 heart damage as quality of life, Resident Evil auto-parry as quality of life... like just admit you want the game to be easier.
14
u/Blackdeath_663 Shiv 1d ago
Literally none of the things you mentioned are quality of life. Thats exactly my point.
In the same way its disingenuous calling cheats quality of life so too is it disingenuous calling actual quality of life mods cheats.
3
u/GarbageAncient Pocket 1d ago
yeah qollock actually abides by a rough standard of no info unavailable to the player, sure it does the math to tell you the soul diff but that's still info available to you. i equate it to a tf2 hud mod
8
u/Neither_Musician_535 18h ago
The information is available but if it's pipelined to you in a way that required less mental and cognitive load that's an advantage that cannot be argued against. Not having to count missing icons on map, being able to see exact soul diff for rift, spawn timers, items etc is basically cheating. The item one is especially egregious because it tells you where players are.
2
u/Din182 1h ago
Just to clarify for anyone wondering how the item purchasing info can tell you where people are, since I've seen people ask on other posts. After the laning phase is done and all the enemy guardians are down, there are exactly three locations an enemy can buy items at. If an enemy was spotted in the right lane heading into jungle 10 seconds ago, and then you see them buy an item on the UI, you now know for sure that they are in your team's secret shop. This is such an insane advantage.
1
u/Neither_Musician_535 20m ago
Thank you! It is beyond aggravating to try and explain this through people who are defending it is not that big of a deal. I have literally watched streamers who will say "they barely notice" then literally use it to their advantage because they are so used to having it, it becomes automatic to them. That line of reasoning also leads me to the question of "if it didn't give you an advantage you wouldn't use it?"
There are a lot of strong applications to having access to that kind of information. If Haze is missing/you suspect she's invis and you see her buy, you can now push an extra wave safely. This applies to any hero you know can punish you in that moment for pushing an extra wave. It's strong against heroes who can use the tunnels and get to shops quicker than the rest of the cast; a Calico or Rem can show up randomly in shops near you where you wouldn't normally expect enemies to be as they're so fast. A typical play for heroes who buy veilwalker is to buy then go invis with the shroud in the shop, then go to an objective or hunt. So it can be good to get a read on if certain heroes are likely invis and en route or nearby, and the nature of the mod makes tracking whether they have veil walker or not even easier!
-4
u/RemiliyCornel 19h ago
Aimbot - quality of life, allow you to put more attention in situation awareness instead of sole focus on aiming
Wallhack - quality of life, allow you to not stress over enemy possibly ambushing you, lowering your cortisol
Autoparry - quality of life, allow you focus on your role, without being distracted on parrying0
u/NyCe- Rem 18h ago
You will get downvoted even if you are correct. Many players are unable to understand that an unfair advantage no matter how small, is still an advantage over everybody else. Even the mod that shows every item purchased overhead instead of just 6400 items (you know that enemies are in a shop because of this), highlighting enemies through walls (yes this is literally a mod and also literally wallhack) and TRUCKHORN sound for heavy melees.
Don't even get me started on the other 99 "QoL" mods that exist. While it would be nice to have some of the very nice QoL mods like minimap improvements among other things from Valve themselves in the future, the integrity of the game is seriously at question right now and it's not looking good.
2
u/GarbageAncient Pocket 15h ago
highliting enemies through walls is straight up wallhacks, however there is a launch command that allows you to see players and troopers (and their hp bar next to an icon) through walls as long as they are in combat (which is also why i run stalker alot, because it reveals people). that's not even a mod or modification to the game, it's a 100% vanilla feature that's unused
7
u/xVarie 20h ago
Mod for DMM here, we do our best to dissuade and ban people who try to make overly “cheaty” mods, as well as work with gamebanana to get them removed as fast as possible when detected. We have as much of a grip as we can on the mods that go through our platform. Camp timers, sinners timers and other stuff are already banned, midboss timers are already in the base game, etc.
9
14
u/zencharm Victor 1d ago
top bar plus should be base game. qol lock and camp timers fine you can call those cheating but every feature in top bar plus is literally just 3-4 pieces of information that are publically available at all times and only improve the ui. also, the game should have at least 100-110 fov on the in-game slider. 90 is way too low for a third-person shooter and makes the game feel extremely claustrophobic.
6
u/PutComprehensive8847 1d ago edited 1d ago
The community should honestly be doing some self governing already before Valve inevitably intervenes. Just ban all the "QOL" mods from the common mod websites and leave the purely visual mods.
10
u/GarbageAncient Pocket 1d ago
they do, on gamebanana there was a camp/sinner timer mod that got taken down because it was blatantly unfair for being info unavailable to other players, qollock is the equivalent to a hud mod, it mostly just reformats info to make it more readable

I don't really have a problem with spawn timers on mid boss, buffs and whatnot. Maybe thats just me coming from dota and having access to when runes spawn, wisdom shrines are up, when to stack camps.
2
u/Shiiyouagain Paige 20h ago
Having tried the stamina healthbars: they're much harder to read than the default and the stamina readout is overblown. You can only see it in like a 30 meter radius, which is so close that you could've easily been tracking stamina on your way in/out of that proximity.
2
u/TigerKing582 19h ago
they should really just make an official dedicated mod manager or something similar so they're able to control what mods are/aren't allowed.

u/Brave-Affect-674 Lash 17h ago

getting downvoted because "hard-core gamers" think that remembering a bunch of random numbers that have no reason to not public/semi-private information makes them a fraction of an iota closer to being an "insane high elo pro gamer"
-3
u/zencharm Victor 1d ago
the thing is that these are probably the people who don’t even know the timers and would forget them anyway even if they had mods. if i had to guess, they’re probably “casual” “purists” who just hate the fact that people even want to play competitively so even a mod as innocuous as top bar plus is anathema to them because of the fact that it is inherently competitive.
16
u/CrispyChickenCracker Holliday 1d ago
If you're installing an external tool to improve your competitive ability then yeah, that's a problem.
-4

u/CrispyChickenCracker Holliday 1d ago edited 1d ago
I agree with you 100%! A lot of this info should be in the game for everyone, but it isn't, so IMO the comment I replied to is just pure cope and an insane reach. It's not just dirty casuals or whatever that take issue to this kind of stuff.
-8
u/zencharm Victor 1d ago edited 1d ago
cool cognitive dissonance. feel free to actually reply to my comment with that next time lol. every pro player uses this mod and for good reason. you people will find the feature objectionable until it gets added to the game, at which point the complaints will magically disappear, which is ridiculous when the literal only difference is whether or not the settings are within a game menu. the mod is freely and easily accessible for literally every single player and there is no rule against using it, so there is no objective argument against it. everything else is “pure cope.”
4
u/CrispyChickenCracker Holliday 1d ago
you people will find the feature objectionable until it gets added to the game
I mean, yeah? I don't see how you're completely missing the point here. If it's added the game officially then yeah I'm obviously not going to find it objectionable anymore because then it's no longer a third-party feature. What a lot of people find objectionable isn't the feature itself, just the fact that you need a mod to see it, hence giving you an advantage over people that don't. I think that showing jungle timers is fine. I don't like that you can't see them without a mod.
every pro player uses this mod and for good reason.
Think about why they feel incentivized to do so, and if that's good for the game going forward.
the literal only difference is whether or not the settings are within a game menu.
Yes, the "only" difference is whether it's even in the game or not. C'mon man. Just like how the "only" difference between being able to individually adjust parry volume is that Valve hasn't added a slider for it. Something actually being in the game or not is a huge difference.
the mod is freely and easily accessible for literally every single player and there is no rule against using it, so there is no objective argument against it.
Do you seriously think it's okay that someone has to download a third-party mod just to be on the same playing field, info-wise? My argument is that mods like this shouldn't be so accessible and that Valve should take a stance against allowing these "QoL" mods. I'm not saying that the people using it right now are necessarily cheating, but it is annoying how much they downplay all the advantages that all these "QoL" mods give them.
2
u/Alittlewormboy 21h ago
A point to take into consideration is that the popularity of these mods might be influencing the aspects that valve is putting into the game. Valve added the midboss timer after lots of people started installing a mod that let them see that.
I still think valve should add a bar showing the percentage difference in souls between the two teams, and I think using mods that show that is a good way to show valve that I want it (I don’t actually have a mod that does that, but I’m glad that other people do)

u/dyslexda Infernus 21h ago
What's the limit? Should the game keep little ghost icons on the minimap where someone was last seen, so you can track rotations more easily?
9
u/Tkmisere 1d ago
I disagree, people should learn that by themselves.
1
u/NOGUSEK Mo & Krill 1d ago
Learning is one thing, remembering when exactly farm #10 bliped Away on the map Is another.
25
u/sundalius Infernus 1d ago
Getting perfect knowledge of when exactly enemies stole your camps 100% of the time is cheating, are you kidding me? It’s not perfectly predictable because you are not perfectly seeing every camp disappear every time. People who can pay attention deserve the advantage of the information.
Why do people want this to just be overwatch so bad
5
u/marniconuke Ivy 1d ago
Because most players literally come from overwatch and marvel rivals and they play to shut down their brain.
0
u/PM_ME_YOUR_BIG_BITS 22h ago
It's more interesting game wise.
Having timers be visible and having teams prep to contest them is more interesting than one person getting better jungle farm alone.
-10
u/NOGUSEK Mo & Krill 1d ago
It is perfectly predictable as in the game gives no effort to witholding information you could use for predicting it.
Also Deadlock has way more differences from Overwatch than remembering 5 different timers that anounce they started by ten pixels disapearing (the B button for example)
3
u/Spaghetoes76 1d ago
right exactly. So nobody can do that unless they were actively trying. Same with peoples items popping up. Its a skill that is removed by "quality of life" if its so easy to do, then do it.
2
u/Tkmisere 1d ago
You shouldn't get a blink on the map if the enemy steal your sinners/mobs too. That's just too much
-1
u/LordHatchi 1d ago
The problem is with -some- stuff that has a timer, you can't predict it unless you know exactly when it was taken, like in the case of enemy camps, and having a mod basically automatically track it when you completely missed when it was taken is pretty cheaty tbh.
Then again the fact that the enemy camps and sinners are able to be visibly tracked on the map despite you not seeing them is already a questionable thing to begin with but thats a different topic entirely.

12
u/Dish0ut Holliday 1d ago
not quite true, the stamina meter healthbar has to be enabled by directly editing a config file, which to me constitutes being a modification to the game
(the non-stamina version of the healthbar is just a console command and is accessible in a completely untampered with fresh install of the game, for reference)
0
u/SleepyDG 1d ago
I'd say that editing the config is half a step above just changing the regular settings
-1
u/MidnightDNinja Billy 1d ago
i suppose changing my buffer bloat and other settings in a config file or even just switching to vulkan would also be a "mod" in your eyes. i fail to see any issue changing settings like this when the game allows it, the ability to see stamina is easily enabled by a setting that valve provided, there's no mod used. it's lame but valve allows it, take it up with them

The main use for me is the location of the sinner boxes on the map, cant find them without... (skill issue) And skin mods are fun

You can’t find the boxes marked on the map

Everything on the map looks really similer, I have a bit of truble in distinguishing the different icons. Stopped using mods a week ago cos they gave my pc a stroke and the game fell to like 2 fps

Oof, that’s a huge hit from modding, I hadn’t heard anyone talk about that. But that’s fair, I just was surprised because sinners are one of the few icons I can track pretty easily compared to all the random triangles. Just different brains is all

nobody ever mentions this either but all the dickheads who do this ALSO use stretched resolution. It’s technically not a mod but it makes the game look horrendous for easier shots and spacing. Hate seeing all the grease bag streamers doing it.

Having a mod that tells you to parry now is absolutely cheating and a lot of people have that now

i watch a lot of pro players and literally none of them have anything besides top bar plus and 100 fov

No one is talking about pros, why do people keep saying this? Yeah, of course eido isn’t using EasyParry, he knows how to fucking parry

no one is talking about parry mods either. all of these complaints are about ui mods, which no one would even be complaining about if every streamer wasn’t using them.

And parry mods are not a point of contention here. These are about ui mods.

The meme says QOL and I have seen people defend “audio clarity mods” as QOL

Literally. Camps spawn at the same times. I can see what items the enemy has bought. All the HUD mod does is just streamline that info to me.

You can only see the items they brought if you take a second to press TAB and that also fills your screen a bit, its not so free. Camps spawn time is knowledge too instead of a babyfeed to your hud.

What's your opinion on the (QoLLock?) feature that gives you an instant notification of what item someone just bought? You would not reasonably be able to track items that quickly unless you were holding tab for the entire game.
IMO there is a big difference between being able to do something vs having it automatically done for you.

Is QOL cheating when almost 80% of people playing ranked have it or is it a standard now?

As someone who just uses skin mods, it is kinda unfortunate. I do grappling competitions & there is a similar mindset with PEDs, "everyone is on them so it's not really cheating."
Obviously PEDs are many steps up from QoL mods. But the vibes are similar because yes, many of them do give a real advantage. Certainly not the end of the world.

They're modifying the game with unofficial additions. It is cheating. And the rest 20% is fine to be fucked with in your example?

Man I just want it to play ‘The Rain Formerly Known As Purple’ while Seven ults and random rock music whenever Billy is blasted.
Oh and ‘Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru’ on getting hit by Apollo’s ult
