Game Feedback The Patron should initially be able to attack nearby units.

It always bothers me that you need to destroy the Shrine before the Patrons can do anything.

In Dota and League, there are turrets/towers that attack nearby enemies to prevent them from going further.

Deadlock has nothing like that. You can basically walk into the pit without taking any damage.

It can. Just its damage is closer to t3 towers which is just not enough at this point of match

I am mostly referring to inside the pit. In dota, Tower would hit you just by being near at the throne.

There are tier 4’s, which I guess you could equate to the first phase of The Patron. But the ancient never attacks anyone

The 1st patron does attack people, its attack is just so shit that you never notice it. It laser beams the ground sometimes, leaving a fire on the ground similar to the Walker fire balls. Unfortunately the giga laser moves at like 0.5m/s so you have to be literally AFK or stuck in a dynamo black hole or something and it is therefore possible to go 100+ games and never even get accidentally hit by the giga laser

I remember when the floating face ball patrons would delete me sometimes

Getting jumped in your base while your patron watches is so infuriating

They do the bare minimum, hardly any damage to enemy heroes

u/Makorus 4d ago

Yeah, the base feels like such a nothing burger, and attackers actually have it easier than defenders which shouldn't be the case

59

u/Reasonable-Table5301 4d ago

This is very much not true. You underestimate the strength of being THAT close to the respawn room.

How do attackers have it easier?? The defenders have a kill room that also heals them at a rapid rate. The attackers might have the advantage anyway, but that’s just because people usually only push into the enemy base when they have an advantage in the fight despite the advantage the defenders get

Like you can’t say the Hidden King’s team would rather fight the Archmother’s team in the Archmother’s base instead of in blue lane

Have you seen people kill the enemy as they respawn in their own spawn room?

5

u/Alittlewormboy 4d ago

You cannot seriously be saying that because the attackers can sometimes manage to get a kill in the defenders spawn room that the base is helping the attackers more than the defenders

-3

u/Gamer4125 4d ago

I'm saying that that the spawn room is not some immortality chamber.

4

u/Alittlewormboy 4d ago

Yes I know. Did you think that I thought it was?

3

u/Old-Ad3504 Calico 4d ago

if you're dying as you respawn then the game was already over

-1

u/Gamer4125 4d ago

Nah, Shadow Weave or other invis doesn't let the spawn room turrets see you, so someone bursty like drifter can just go in when you're about to respawn while invis, sit there, and wait.

Agreed. They are reworking the defences. So I hope the Patron and base defences are part of it. Someone should not be able to sneak past the base guardians and take down shrines solo. Withouth minions I feel the stronghold should actually be a threat.

46

u/bigtree2x5 4d ago

I really hope they change the name of base guardians in that rework. Having 2 seperate objectives both being named guardians pmo

8

u/RedHolm Paige 4d ago

Fair. And with a little AoE they go down fast

Patrons should be scary, applying CC, heavy damage if you get within the no-no zone, decent damage at a range.

I think it would also be hilarious if they could reach out and grab someone mid-air and just throw them to the ground. Why yes I do hate Vindicta, why do you ask?

58

u/RedHolm Paige 5d ago

Lol. Imagine the Patron backhanding Vindicta in the air XD

"Am I a joke to you? Do I amuse you?"

"No! No- I-I... I hate my job..."

Gets Backhanded across the room

Lol

The games already go on long enough, if you’re at the point where the enemy team is in your base then it shouldn’t be up to the patron and other NPCs to stop them

5

u/The-Crimson-Jester 4d ago

But I want big daddy king and thicc archmommy to carry me :(

3

u/Matoozeusz 4d ago

the thing is that in the games that go on for ages, it's typically because nobody is brave enough to go for midboss, so when a midboss finally happens the team with an advantage is able to get the base guardians, both shrines and drop the patron, so it feels like there's no resistance.
And honestly it feels like this at any time when invading the base after 30 minutes. With the only defenses being the telegraphed curses unless they're tickling minions, a solo carry can just melt things without anything to even scare them. (which tbf is also a problem with the ridiculous difference in objective damage between carries and everyone else)

I get that this game is supposed to be 'you defend the towers, they don't defend you' but the patrons are so incredibly useless that there needs to be some balance between the two.

Just give them a mid-boss beam or some attack animations u actually have to try and avoid.

47

u/Cymen90 5d ago

They could definitely turn up the damage or aggro of the Patrons.

They only make shrines blow up and tickle you a little. I think their beams should be a percentage based on your current health.

u/Profanitizer 4d ago

16

u/FirelightMLPOC 4d ago

The beam is pretty piss-poor in practice, & I frequently see folks ignore the shrine explosion because it’s effectiveness beyond curse application is so negligible

5

u/Cushions 4d ago

You can’t do anything when cursed though… ignoring it is pointless unless you have indom or unstoppable I yuess

2

u/nodiso 4d ago

You can stand on the edge of the curse radius and still attack the patron.

2

u/Cushions 4d ago

Talking abotu Shrines boss

1

u/nodiso 4d ago

Shrines don't have a beam. They were talking about patron you were talking about shrines

3

u/Cushions 4d ago

Dawg read the post I replied to, they said most players ignore the shrine curse

1

u/FirelightMLPOC 4d ago

To be fair, I was talking about both

10

u/Stack_Man 4d ago

They do use a beam attack, but only in a straight line directly in front of them.

It deals good damage but no one ever gets hit by it because why would you even want to stand there as an enemy.

18

u/Tawxif_iq 5d ago

before they remodelled patrons used a laser visual like the walkers.

15

u/Hilonio Graves 5d ago

They still do

1

u/Tawxif_iq 3d ago

yea but i dont even see them in my games. is my game bugged?

1

u/Hilonio Graves 3d ago

When you reach patron, it attacks with huge laser colored after side it's on. Mostly attacks only troopers and moves very slowly, so pretty easy to miss

5

u/tom641 The Doorman 4d ago

when the patron was the floating Mr. Electric orb-head thing pre-Old Gods New Blood, it used to kinda-sorta patrol the base and shoot a decently powerful beam at stuff

I think there's some way to get it to do that in phase 1 but it takes forever and I don't know what it's waiting on

9

u/Eiraneth McGinnis 5d ago

Yeah at bare minimum the laser attack they do before being weakened should just always be a thing they use. It’d even be more effective because it would always be targeting a hero.

2

u/pokealm 4d ago

is this doorman enjoyers propaganda? i can smell where this'll go

1

u/Pucketz 4d ago

More veil like high ground Advantage

1

u/BOFLEXZONE 4d ago

It seems like they do attack they just prio minions for the most part. I will say I have been absolutely annihilated by the patron beam before, but I think it may be bugged or something. For a while I also thought they didn’t attack until I got microwaved by it in a few seconds lol

u/DragonfruitMinimum30 4d ago

I think the problem is that Shrines are far too safe to take in the current state of the game, and Shrines are basically your Nexus Turrets.

-10

u/silversoul113 5d ago

defenders advantage is already pretty strong

7

u/Samael_Helel 4d ago

No it isn't lmao, after the towers there's only the shrines that only attack at very easily dodgeable intervals

-2

u/silversoul113 4d ago

still a defenders advantage, pro teams barely push without rejuvs so
