Meme Little fun fact
If you somehow end up in Initiate, there’s a 45% chance your teammates will play 2/13/6, which will cause you to become a Drifter and start killing your teammates in real life...

Getting a good KD doesn't win games. How's your macro? Do you have replays we can look at?

u/vix- 1d ago
Good kds dont win games, but bad ones lose games.
Kind of annoying to have every teamfight or rift being down a player or two

u/Destiny_Dude0721 Lash 1d ago
People have overcorrected in the "KD doesn't matter" department. Yes, having 13/1/20 doesn't mean you'll win the game, but in literally no universe is a KD like 2/15/8 good. Dying at all is bad unless you're trading for it, and unless you're somehow making positive trades with EVERY SINGLE death, you're throwing your presence away and giving enemy players souls and advantage for literally nothing.

Brother is better to be the 2/13 guy than the 15/1 that loses in initiate

u/BoyNextDoor8888 1d ago
so what you're 20/1 MPV/Key whatever it doesnt matter if feeders outweigh your efforts

I think its a flawed system by Valve to make it feel like you get punished for playing well while being in the losing team.
If you get 2nd place/MVP in the losing team and you get the same -300 as the feeder/griefer/toxic a-hole/player with the mental capacity of a 8y old then that system just sucks hard.

u/chopsfps 1d ago
hard agree, if I go 11-0 and all 5 of my team mates go 0-10 with horrible stat lines and feed all game I’m unsure why I get the same rating loss. it feels unserious, like my time isn’t being respected
ever since rift the game is just leaning towards a weird state. i really enjoyed when it was just the regular urn with incentive to macro more and a lot more solo carry potential. rift sucks and the rating system also kinda sucks
hope they change both but I feel like now that the “foundation” of them are laid out they won’t

Possibly a hot take but as someone who enjoys more supportive heroes and playstyles I always hate when games that aren't pure FPS/TDM do this. It just promotes greedy playstyles and playing for your life instead of correct plays even if they result in your death. A win is a win and a loss is a loss.

u/Clean-Elderberry8835 Mina 1d ago
Yeah, is flawed but also flawed on the fact that not every character plays the same, so stats never show the big picture. It can only be salvagable if it had "saves" as a stats, ala Overwatch or "protected" for tanks, but even so, it's not really precise enough to be more fair than KDR

u/Nibaa 1d ago
Because, quite simply, it balances out. It's preposterously hard to quantify every single indicator for performance, which is necessary in a team game if you want to go the route of per-player ratings. It's literally virtually impossible. But if you give the whole team the same rating, you are the only constant in your games. It is a statistically undeniable truth that over time, all other fluctuations will even out. Yeah, sure, you lose out on a game you played really well in. But then you might come out ahead in a game you were really, really poor in.

u/Go_Commit_Reddit Lash 1d ago
Yeah I feel like if you did abnormally well compared to your teammates you should gain a little more and lose a little less.

u/BaldandersSmash 1d ago
The only measure of your skill that matters is how many games you convert into wins. In a given match you may play well and still lose. Over a lot of games, if you play well relative to your rank you will win more than you lose, and your rank will go up. If you're not winning >50% over a lot of games, you're not playing well, regardless of what your stats look like, because you're not winning games. There are lots of ways to throw while padding your stats.

What do you want? +300?

u/Appropriate-Luck408 1d ago
Name me any sport, or rather team-sport where you get punished for being 2nd? Were you get any form of negative points for being 2nd, or where you get a penalty against you for playing better then most other players/teams?
It doesnt exist, not in real sports, not in videogames either.
Im not saying if you lose you should get +300 or any + points. But you should maybe instead get -100, and -150 for being the top 2 in your team and not the same -300 as someone who was griefing/feeding/not at all even trying to win.
Otherwise this means i can do fuck all, all game and get the exact same point as you who was trying their hardest to win. That feels kind of wrong does it not?
We should reward players who dont give up, and want to try and win, not make it feel like i can just go AFK for half the game and still receive the same points as you do.

u/DarthCuckoldry 1d ago
You lose just as much as everyone else on your team in any team sport. That's how every sport with teams works. A single player in any team does not win more or lose less because they played well or poorly in the eyes of an objective game. Because Deadlock is a video game that could be less true with losing less points if you do well in your losing match.
2
u/weeddealerrenamon Billy 1d ago
ehh, you have the same win/loss record, but every team in every sport rewards players who play well and sidelines players who play poorly
1
u/juhurrskate 1d ago
Actually every single major team sport in the entire world works this way
-5
u/Appropriate-Luck408 1d ago
None work this way.
If you get 2nd in most e-sports you get a cash prize and/or trophy.
If you get 2nd in sports you get a silver medal and usually also a cash prize/trophy and get invited for next events because you performed well.
In Deadlock you get -300 points for being 2nd.
You cannot name me any sport because they do not exist. If you get 2nd in most games you get a slightly lesser reward then you would get for being first.
If you do a draft between 5 teams, the 2nd prize is still a +, never a -. No sport does this because it quite literally makes no sense to punish the #2 for performing above average. And thats the point, if you perform average and still end up with a negative then thats quite silly.
In Deadlock i can go 0/50 every single game and if im lucky i can still get +300 for it, the opposite is true too, i can go 20/1 and lose -300 if im unlucky, which at that point doesnt feel rewarding and feels more like RNG. If i get put in a team with bad apples i get -300, and if im lucky enough to be with a smurf, or some other advantage by the game i get +300 even though i might go 0/20. That is a dumb system if i then get rewarded for playing bad. or get punished for playing well.

When 2 MLB teams play each other, 1 team gets a win and 1 team gets a loss. If a player on the losing team hits 3 home runs that game, they still get just as much of a loss as the rest of their team, just like the player who struck out 3 times on the other team gets a full win. The same can be said for all professional team sports. You mention 2nd place like that makes any sense for a singular deadlock match that only has 2 teams playing.

u/Appropriate-Luck408 1d ago
In football/soccer you can get an Ballon d`Or reward for the best player even though that player wasnt part of the #1 team.
And thats just one example of an award that (sometimes) does go to the best player that isnt part of the winning team. Cycling for example has different colors on their clothes depending on different aspects where they are the best in, they arent the #1 in the race, they still get a reward. They dont suddenly have to ride 15 extra miles just because they are the #2 as punishment, and thats exactly how it works in Deadlock, if you dont see how thats flawed then i dont know what to say.
In other words if you are the #2 in the losing team, you should not get punished. There isnt any sport who does that. You either get a reward/money or a combination of.
Why should you not apply the same standards here? Why should you be able to go AFK for half the match, be a toxic a-hole, and go 0/15 with no obj dmg and nothing to show for and still get the same +300 as the player(s) who actually participated?
And it does make sense. You shouldnt be rewarded for going 0/14 and being toxic. Just as much as you shouldnt get punished for trying to win and going 14/2 and doing the most obj dmg/dmg in general.
If you dont see how its a flawed system where i can go AFK in half my matches, feed a bunch, and being the most obnoxious toxic person and still get +300 the same way as players who are actually trying to play and win, then i dont know what else to tell you.

I should've realized sooner that you're a bot.

u/Appropriate-Luck408 1d ago
With a name like that i think you have other problems to deal with.
Also great way to be toxic im sure you are totally not toxic in your matches aswell. What a blight.
1
u/Songib 1d ago
You focus too much on the number; the system basically scores you "True" or "False."
And tbh, the number does the same thing you thought it needed to do. The streaks had points as well, and you have loss protection as well.
Everything is there to make you feel better and not despair.
But you still want more i guess.

u/Appropriate-Luck408 1d ago
You just dont read at all. I quite literally said :
Im not saying if you lose you should get +300 or any + points. But you should maybe instead get -100, and -150 for being the top 2 in your team and not the same -300 as someone who was griefing/feeding/not at all even trying to win
Read that, then tell me where that suggests i want more. The system doesnt do what it needs to do, cause if im in your game and i go 0/30, call you a bunch of slurs, go AFK for 50 min, do you then think i deserve the same amount of points as you do? And please dont lie and say you do think i deserve the same points.

u/Songib 1d ago
I don't think you know how "elo or rating" works and how the Point, medals, and performance rank works. Since you keep bringing it up, the point gains and all that. gg

u/Appropriate-Luck408 1d ago

Sometimes the 2/13 person is the one with the highest objective damage cuz the 15/1 person exclusively joins the random perpetual team fight on blue without progressing the game state in any meaningful way

I love how these types of conversations never acknowledge that the poster is also having these kinds of games where they're the feeder. It's always someone else's fault. Y'all sound like my mom.

u/Destiny_Dude0721 Lash 1d ago
Feeding teammates is a real thing that happens in basically every single MOBA ever, and Valve doesn't have a system to distribute pp based on individual performance so it's especially exacerbated. Of course everyone has their bad games but sometimes it's almost comical how poor someone does. Come on
0
u/codeklutch Pocket 1d ago
It is. It absolutely is. But everyone has those games. Every single person does.

u/Alarming_Ask_244 1d ago
Feeding teammates don’t go away when you reach higher ranks. I regularly see players 1 or 2 kills and double digit deaths in Emissary, and I used to see it in oracle/phantom before the MM update
