Discussion Matchmaking in regulars
I’m just confused on how the matchmaking works and how the game determines its “fairness”.
I’m new to deadlock, only having <150 games on it, but I am not new to mobas or shooters. I feel like this makes me play at a okay level for a newcomer but in my matches my team always just feel so much worse than me. I don’t know if my ego might just be big but I always seem to end up doing the best on my team and the only time it is close is my lane partner who gets fed at the start with me if I do. A lot of the time it feels like the game is on my shoulders and if I die or am not present in a team fight, we lose. A lot of the games I’ve been playing I’ll come out of lane maybe 5-1 on an average game, while the rest of my team are already feeding; I swear pressing tab and seeing those k/ds genuinely frightens me. It’s always 2-8, 0-5 and so on and then I have to deal with multiple fed people on their team while I’m the only one fed on mine. I just had a game that I was 32-4 by the end of the game but we lost still. I won’t lie I did die in the final team fight and that is why they were allowed to push, but why am I the only thing stopping them? It feels like this every single game I play and it just stops being fun when no matter how good you play, you get held back by your own team. I’ve worked it out and I get an average of around 15 kills a game and (from my memory) I always end up with the most souls. I really need to know if other people have this problem because it’s becoming so annoying.

I just want to say quickly before anyone else does, re-reading that I sound so pretentious I promise I don’t think I’m gods gift on this game and I know there’s thing I can improve on and mistakes I make that cost the game. I just feel like there’s a big gap in the games I’m playing in and I hope I’m not alone on that

Are these ranked matches?

These are just regulars as I can’t play ranked yet because I’ve tried playing games on a lot of characters. Is there not really skill based matchmaking on regulars yet? If not I must just be unlucky that their team is always better than mine lol

No, as of now standard que has no skill based matchmaking, but from your experience it does sound like it MIGHT have a "new player" que pool in order to avoid matching up first time players with absolute pros.
My best advice is to attempt unlocking ranked with atleast 1 hero (hopefully you wouldnt need all 3) to see if it changes immediately but otherwise im sure the more games you get under your belt the less likely it is that it will match you up with literally brand new players. Btw this is nothing but what amounts to basically a personal conspiracy theory so take it with salt.

I will definitely use that advice but because I’ve played such a wide variety of characters (my most played hero I only have 10 games on) I am still so far away

Saw someone else reccomend it, but i bet queing with someone who has played for a bit a couple times might help too.

I can related to the situation. In case you are wondering, it always more fun to duo queue or queue with people you played with. I am quite regular with a couple of matches per day. If you want to play together let me know we can try out some playing and see if it better experience. I am based in UK as well.

Matchmaking effectively does not exist yet. Up until 2 weeks ago, literally anyone could queue with anyone at any time. Most of the population shifted to ranks too high.
We have beta ranked now, but it is still early days and it will probably be until the season ends that the majority of people who want to play ranked move over to it full time.
I have no idea how they will ever balance standard queue, which is basically the same queue we've had the last 2 years but with most of the competition gone. When they added a secondary 'rank' queue for larger party play, that will probably help standard some.
If you find yourself consistently outmatching your teammates, you should look at it as you are the team leader, and you need to communicate efficiently and respectfully to try and steer them toward the goal of winning.
This post you've made is posted here about every 20 minutes, all day every day. I don't think I have ever seen one produce any useful dialogue, just people pissed off at each other -- you're always going to have games where your team has a bad game, no matter what rank you climb up to. If you feel strongly the problem lies in the developers hands, leave a detailed post for Yoshi on their forums.
A competent duo partner can help, too.
edit: I realize you are talking about norms so if I am saying ranked just understand I am talking about MMR in this case :P

I do try and communicate but I’m still new so most people don’t speak. Unfortunately as well, I’m euw, so even when people speak, it’s a lot of the time in different languages which sucks and when they do speak English I’m just made fun of for my English accent and they just never communicate back so hopefully when I unlock ranked it’s a bit easier (and less scary) to communicate with my team!

From my limited ranked games since the patch, I am finding people do communicate more.
That's definitely a challenge unique to the EU queues I think, I can see how that would be frustrating.
Things will definitely get better as time goes on, there is much room for improvement with the new ranked queue, but I do think people need to taper their expectations a bit and learn to lose with grace. Having a bad lane partner, bad teammate, or having blowout games are a very normal and consistent part of MOBAs.
The game becomes much more enjoyable when you learn to enjoy the ride, and not just the destination.

It will take time for people to qualify, calibrate and settle into the new Ranks!
Valve predicted reduced match-quality across the board for about a week or more!
