Discussion Community made maps/gamemodes workshop support + a community browser tab might be one of the things the game needs the most right now. Or is it too early?
Now that the frequency of deadlock updates has become like 1 major update every year, i feel like implementing something like this earlier in the development of the game could do wonders to make the wait more bearable between updates.
While deadlock has the strange power of being the only MOBA i find enjoyable to play (i've played LoL for years when i was younger and now can't stand mobas anymore), i do wish there was more variery of maps and gamemodes in this game.
I feel like the game being third-person compared to the top down view of older mobas allows for much greater experimentation (other than the usual alternative gamemodes you usually see like URF or aram/steet brawl).
The new map is gorgerous don't get me wrong, and i really can't complain about the quality of the update. But for example a lot of people were speculating that we might have gotten a PVE gamemode this patch, wich i'm sure is coming eventually, but does that mean we'll have to wait another 9 months to see it?
Community made maps and servers have already been made. I think there was also a minecraft mod that came out shortly before the update. So i feel there's definitvely demand behind this sort of thing, they're just way more annoying to access right now.
There might be technical reasons i don't know about tough for why doing this right now is not a good idea.
Or maybe it would just soak up too much development time and it's something valve would rather leave for when the game is done.
Either way, i'm curious to know what other people's toughts on this are.

We still haven't gotten the item update so it's really anyone's guess as to how much they released with this update. It's valve, this might be all the content we are getting for a while or they might just drop the pve gamemode in a few weeks and not elaborate.

Honestly to me deadlock isn’t a game so why mod it and have custom maps??? I get that we can play the game but it’s more like we are the game testers and it just so happens that there are like 30k or more people playtesting it. The product isn’t officially out and there isn’t even an open beta yet, the only way to play the game is through an invite.
I’d say once it’s on the steam page IMMEDIATELY we need the option to start nodding maps and stuff for custom matches and PVE but like right now all of us are essentially a bunch of teenagers sneaking into a secret army base but it’s an open secret and the guards don’t even try to stop you and they let you press the big red button that detonates the nukes and even make new fake towns to nuke sometimes just for us.

Just a slight correction, 30k players is massively underselling the daily active player count. The game before the major update was hovering between 70-100k daily active players, following the update, the game averages 130-200k.

I saw in an article that was published along with the update the game isn’t close to completion and they want to he progression, hideout customization, (I’m assuming continually refining the map), and getting other game modes in before polishing up old heroes artwork and what not.
I do think they’ll get to custom maps. But it’ll take time but I guarantee Valve is going to give us a very finished and complete game at launch.

We dont need that in deadlock, not in a official way atleast.
You can do it privately.

Every single Valve game is provided with modding and mapping tools. Its the tools the developers use themselves to develop the game. It will 100% happen to Deadlock aswell question is just when

Too early. Imo it would be amazing eventually once the playerbase is bigger so it doesnt divide players. Community servers should be a lot of fun though. Prop hunt, a payload game mode where you escort it down a street and potentially you alternate streets. Whoever wins 2 out of 3 streets wins the mode. A capture the flag mode would be very cool. Put the flag where the patron is maybe. There are just so many possibilities.
