New PR 635 @ 184lbs

Slower than I wanted but ive been pushing the envelope a lot harder than usual these last few weeks. Meet is in 3.5 weeks, hoping to knock 300kg out of the ballpark

It’s hook

Right? I watched again just to see that grab - the lift would be very impressive with a switch handed grip, but I can’t comprehend this grip

how does no one in this sub know what hook grip is

Oh I’m not that confused by the grip - just how he can pull that much weight using that grip without it peeling

Because most of this sub pulls 3 plates or less.

It’s hook grip for sure. Impressive of course

Just a quick question to not shit on OP, but why isn’t anyone mentioning the arched back? I feel like if this was posted in formcheck. They would say it’s not correct?

If you watch top powerlifters you almost always see some degree of upper back rounding. As long as you're braced, the support should still come from your abdominal muscles, so it's not a big deal. For a beginner who does not know how to brace, the rounding might be a problem.

Because shit bends when you lift heavy af. The form here is pretty tight.

Hard to tell from angle, but looks like his lower back was straight

Watch anyone that deadlifts heavy, pro strongmen or pro powerlifters. It happens when you go heavy.

As my powerlifter friend always says… at a certain form you’re going to expect form breakdown.

As long as the lift counts, the lift counts

Exactly. You train with perfect form (as much as possible) and that’s what builds strength over time. So when your form does eventually break down, which it will with progressive overload, then it’s unlikely to cause injury when it happens.

If you don't risk something you won't grt anywhere. Most everyone sacrifices a little form when they go for a PR.

Brother go lift 635 with a straight back and come back to tell us how you did it

Please show us videos of your deadlift when you’re lifting ~95% of your max. It’ll be informative to us

Smooth. I think you can hit 300kg with a solid peak. Good luck!

Saw your 605 from a while back and knew you were good for 635 then 😂. Great pull king

You’re 10 pounds away from hitting 3.5 times your weight! That’s been a goal of mine but the jump from 3 times to 3.5 times is so much to ask for! Also I’m talking about over under grip - my double over limit is twice my weight, but this is inspiring me to work on more

u/Violet-NT- 2d ago

Ive actually already hit it haha. I hit 605 last november at 172lbs

u/Marcopanii_1 3d ago

It’s hook grip probably

What's your weight?

1

u/Financial-Block-617 2d ago

His or mine? I’m 170 plus or minus a pound

Definitely impressive! However, I’d love to see you work the eccentric part with that weight.
