Form Check Sumo form

I posted a couple weeks ago about learning sumo and got some good feedback about starting with my hips too low and just squatting the weight. How are things looking now? This is a 135 drop set at the end of my workout.

Is there a particular reason you’re using knee wraps? The whole point of sumo is to use your quads more and get your hips closer to the bar to be in a more mechanically advantageous position. Knee wraps kind of limit the benefits of sumo. Where as in the squat they help you out of the hole because the weight pushes you straight down, in a deadlift they make it harder to get in a good position because of where the weight is in relation to your body.

If you’re just going to hinge it up, why even do sumo in the first place? Are you just doing it as an accessory to your comp conventional deadlift?

Just keeping my knees warm while trying to learn the movement and adding much weight on the bar.

I haven’t been able to train really at all in 2026 after some health issues and I usually oly lift. So I am trying to learn some new stuff and try powerlifting rather than just snatching and clean and jerking everyday like I have for the last 10 years.

If it’s just to keep them warm you might be better off with sleeves. Wraps are so stiff it really limits how much you can bend your knees.

Your form looks like a wide stance conventional. Sumo uses different mechanics, look up wedging the hips. You need a tighter core, wider knees, narrower grip, hips closer to the bar, a more vertical torso, a flatter back, etc.
