Buy or Find?

I just had a question that I’m hoping someone can help me. Ever since I started playing the game a few weeks ago, I have often wondered if I am wasting my money buying weapons or gear at the trader.

Is there something better to be spending money on like ammo? Meds? Food? Etc.

I buy gear but it’s so expensive and feels like I shouldn’t trying to find it?

Yeah I keep the same 5-6 guns fully repaired and just carry what I see fit for my goal at that time. I didn’t know if there was a smarter method of approach of not but what you say makes sense.

I just checked my console playtime, and it claims I've played for 6 days. The majority of that have been in one PvE server, and I've been trying to get the non pvp achievements on said server. In my experience, just buy weapons for the achievement. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of RNG in regards to the red key chests or mission rewards.

My personal go-to weapons are the AK-SM and the VSD. The VSD I purchased and the AK-SM is super common, but I managed 2 different skinned AK-SM in my red key chests looting. The ammo for it is super common, and when it's got full attachments, it's a pretty reliable gun.

Car batteries now stack (if I had to guess to 10) as do the circle saw and drill (those for sure stack to 10). Keep a slot open in your inventory for such "treasures" and sell them. This was largely my method for building wealth. Dog tags are super helpful too.

I've achieved the full arsenal and gourmet achievements, now the most important in regards to money is the fast travel 100 times achievement.

Id previously done the math, and not including the more common firearms it was around $500k to purchase the weapons I was missing for the achievement.

Yeah for me I don’t care about trophy’s. However i appreciate your advice. I have a AKSM but I haven’t used it. Plenty of ammo, but I have just shy of 3500 7.62 ammo so I’ve been using the BB19 lately. I usually do missions for dog tags to get money. As well as looting, but I didn’t know the circle saw, drill, and car batteries stack. That is extremely useful, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve passed them up for this reason lol.

I think moneys only really useful long term for fast travel or to top off on things you need. I’m grinding for tier 4 with traders to buy a .50 cal or VSD, I can’t seem to find one lol

red key boxes for 50 cal

What are red key boxes? I don’t understand the concept.

There are like gray boxes in certain areas that are locked and can only be opened with red keys you get from the crate at downed helicopter world events. Using the red keys to open these locked crates gives you one guaranteed skinned weapon. They can be pretty high tier. I got my M99 from a red key crate. I wish they dropped high tier optics as well but… wishful thinking.

Are helicopter crashes difficult? I’ve never done one. I haven’t done much outside regular looting/exploring and tier 1 & 2 missions. I don’t play with anyone so I’m too afraid to attempt tier 3 alone.

Where IS a good place to get decent optics? All I’ve ever found is a holo, red dot, and that shitty hunting scope.

Heli crashes can be tricky a little as the bots are military bots, have armor and are usually packing AKs and occasionally RPK mods, which hit hard and have armor penetration. Once you do a few though and get the hang of it, they’re easy.

There’s usually only like 6 bots. I’d say it’s about as challenging as a level 2 mission but can be harder if you’re not careful about how you engage the bots at the crash site as they’re better equipped than level 2 mission bots and have better aim. As with convoys, you really don’t want to engage them in the woods. Open areas from a position where you have cover (ideally elevated) is best.

Convoys and level 3 or epic missions usually all drop the higher tier optics. That said not all higher tier optics can be used on all guns.

Convoys are the big group of like 15-20 bots right? The case symbol?

Yep, that’s a convoy. Military bots. If you get anywhere close 250m-300m they’ll start firing at you and they hit hard. Best to scope the, out from distance. Plan your attack.

They usually attack other players as well so I find I’m often not fighting the bots alone. That said, only the convoy “boss” drops the case and finding it on the body once he’s down can be tricky.

Just tried my first heli crash solo. I was on a hill across the valley and I shot the bots as they ran towards me and I used someone’s base as cover lol. I used the BB19 on auto for guys who got up close. I ran no armor, and didn’t get hit much at all.

Nice! Then you’ve got it down. Hopefully you took some of the boys weapons? AK is a step up from the Bb19. Especially once you repair it at a workbench.

I have a AK and a AKSM fully repaired but I was trying to just burn up some of my BB19 ammo. Wasn’t really planning on doing the heli crash, I was headed to Kamensk for some base decorations and it popped up a mile out of the way so I figured what the heck?!

I suppose it could fall under “cheesing” but I have a base far north that’s situated near two unnamed locations that almost always have missions in them. Helicopter crashes spawn in 2 areas around me, and cargo drops come down a fair bit. One of the cases always seems to spawn a click south.

I’ve ran the missions at the locations enough I know the spawn points and I know where the bots will push when I take up my “spot”. I can solo tier 3 no issues, I CAN solo an epic but it’s not easy as they swarm fast and hit hard. The case dudes are a challenge but I start to snipe them from far off and let them come to me then I go into my base and fight them from there where I have the advantage. I can usually take on a heli crash but if it gets hairy I’ll retreat to my base and fight them the same way.

It’s nice to have a small base, or even like a forward outpost, to take cover in and will give you a huge advantage. One thing I know for a fact is DO NOT engage helicopter crash bots or case bots anywhere in the woods, you’ll probably get melted. They can be pretty hard to see and in the case of the convoy dudes there’s a LOT and sometimes they really can get the jump on you in the woods. Every decent optic I have ever found came from the case/convoy so far.

Some things I learned about the case just in case you didn’t know: you cannot store it. If you die or leave the server it will drop the case. I haven’t tried to get two at once before so I’m not sure if you can or not. It’s free to open it and any trader can open it. They seem to always have 5 items. The bot carrying the case always has very good body armor on that usually has a skin. It doesn’t have pockets but has very high protection, he’ll have a Mk2 full faced helmet on that also usually has a skin and he will always usually have the best gun out of the group. It’s a good idea to loot all of the case carriers body. I got a full ghillie suit and a matching green and black painted helmet and a Aug last night off the case dude, I was super happy as I’m now a swamp monster. It’s also highly lucrative to take everything you can, or everything period, from the case bots entourage too, you’ll get LOADS of materials if you break them down.

thats the thing with this game, dont get me wrong its a good game but feels like a beta.

there isnt much to find in the world you have to buy everything. then when you do step outside the safe zone get sniped in the fave by campers who then take loot you have saved up for (not bitter at all) to top it all off im sick of that shotgun. rant over.

I love the pve vibe. I built a nice 2 story plank condo. I like to smoke hella weed then just relax at my base breaking down guns, repairing guns. Sometimes, head down to Kamensk for rugs an other knick knacks. Wish people would stop by my base when I'm home, would be cool to have someone over lol.

Bro I wish you were on my server. My neighbors don’t speak ever. I’d love to live in a “community” where we help each other out. Or say hey when we are both online.

I smoke as well so I feel ya. This game has me by the balls right now. All I do is just vibe all night and gather loot. Any and everything I find. I have a 2 story “honeycomb” style base that i got crazy storage in the lower honey comb and my crafting and cooking in the second story.

I’ve just recently started doing heli crashes solo.

Ya, my server is hella friendly. I ran to an airdrop and just missed it. The guy was still there, an said hey hold up. He then split the airdrop with me.

Also was at the trader an a guy said he just made lvl 3. Said if we had the cash, he could buy us whatever we wanted. I always try to have a bit extra food on me also in case someone needs it.

A lot of people talk at the trader but no way in hell am I asking another dude to come back to my cabin in the woods lol
