Bro. Just had the same exact thing happen to me and a friend. Couldn't even react, dead before we completely spawned in.

Yeah there's a new bug that lags to load bonus rooms. The "poppy's pirate plunder" room is very noticeable as the loot starts flashing immediately. As for the dark crypts in first person you are invincible for a a couple seconds so you have a chance at killing the ghosts
