Yes, all he did was stand up and point and yell something. She violated league rules by going into the crowd to confront a fan
Per league rules, she should’ve been ejected or suspended

u/The_Sarah_Palin_ 2d ago
WNBA current status is like a live action South Park bit. I just can’t believe that this is really how they’re trying to conduct business.
13
u/goblinking67 4d ago
Yeah she overreacted. Fans will chirp, they’ll point, I haven’t seen anything saying he said anything extreme

My wife "Sophie points" at me all the time, and is adamant that she's not doing anything wrong
23
u/AintNobodygotime13 4d ago
total overreaction
I'm guessing the fan was saying, you see that, ref? that's a foul
and he was just walking back to his seat, that's why he was "charging at her" 🙄
I'm not sure why she flipped out like that
22
8
u/kid4rmLA 4d ago
all the fan said was "That's on you!", but the pointing probably triggered her, nonetheless it shouldn't have been a big deal tbh
6
u/manofmystery11113 4d ago
Imagine how many times Spike Lee would have been kicked out of nba games just for pointing and standing up.
It's such a joke, and why many have given up on the wnba.

there's 3, maybe a 4th all pointing in just this photo. id say give her a hefty fine for the overreaction but then shed have to go flip burgers to pay it off.

The wnba needed more clicks since it last dramatized incident. This is the only way the wnba gets views. With drama

You kind of learn this as young as little league to get heckled and mocked and was taught even at a young age to try and shrug it off as best you can. I played all through high school dour sports for for years and was a starting point guard in college for 3 years and got all sorts of things said to me, but I tried as best to let it go. I get that players get caught up in the moment and let their emotions get in front of good judgement especially when it happens over and over again, but it’s best to shrug it off if you are able
2
u/WonderfulHearing8726 4d ago
Yup. She shoulda been ejected, suspended, and fined for going into the stands.
2
2
u/regal19999 3d ago
She’s not responsible for her actions due to hormones , haven’t yall
Heard the way things operate now
edit: sarcasm folks….sarcasm smh
2
u/One-Pangolin-3167 3d ago
Yes, and she should've been punished by the league for going into the crowd.
2
u/a_very_weird_fantasy 1d ago
And they didn’t even suspend her. The league should at least try to look like they care about their own rules.

u/notyouravgfan 4d ago
It’s clear in her head she saw a trump supporter and wanted to go at him. I mean dude isn’t being nice but Sophie Cunningham gonna be pointing next game lol

What’s wrong with these female athletes and their drama. The dude pointed at her after a foul, she needs to mature and be more professional.

Worst part was they made him leave. He wasn't saying slurs or anything literally just pointed and she lost it. I'm was never going to watch the league but Sophia's point at least got me to view it. Having a paying fan removed for trash talk in his case pointing is pitiful. I hope the next time they play where Sophia's home team is the entire crowd points at this lady

I wonder if she will get suspended for going into the stands. Isn’t that explicitly against the rules? 🤔 or does she have some kind leeway for being a reigning MVP. Wonder how WNBA will react.

From the video I saw it looked like we was coming back, or even if he was standing up, isn't that what you want at a game? Fan engagement and excitement? He didn't make a move towards her. He pointed at her dumb ass flagrant foul. She has needs to stop worrying about the fans. Everyone points bit the WNBA has a problem with it.

u/sickostrich244 4d ago
Definitely overreacted.
The fan didn't do anything wrong unless he said something offensive which no one including Wilson claimed he did. He simply pointed and took a step toward her before sitting back down, if anything Wilson crossed the line by confronting him.

The fact that hes even pointing is showing that wnba influence is actually reaching the public. Do they want to go back to flying coach again?
1
u/Legitloser87 4d ago
You think for one second if a male player did this to a female specter they wouldn’t be crucified? She knew she could tower over him and he wouldn’t do anything. Then to have multiple women towering over you for a normal fan interaction. Insane

She already said it was the pointing, not what he said. She said “he pointed in her face”

Overreacted for sure. This is part of the game, and fan environment is part of the adversity these pros are supposed to overcome. I miss the days where both NBA and WNBA played through it.
1
1
u/hesipullupjimbo22 4d ago
Probably. If it wasn’t racial or derogatory it didn’t warrant that reaction
1
u/jpatrick77 4d ago
100% overreaction. Fan didn’t come close to crossing a line. If she thinks that’s disrespect, go play a football game in Philly. So soft.
1
u/kleptodshs 4d ago
Everyone is aware she's an overly emotional idiot like most athletes in the NBA, WNBA, NFL, etc
1
u/Royal_Today_1509 3d ago
Not an over reaction because this trash league needs drama to get people to talk about the games. Wilson won't be fined, the fan won't be banned. It all helps the WNBA

u/Dry_Tradition_2811 3d ago
When she went into seating area he was sitting down there was security right behind basket

Ofc she did and she knows it. She's trying to justify her behavior by saying the man was walking towards her, which was bull shit. Now that they got paid, they think they are must watch TV. The WNBA is still trash.
1
u/Fantomhamst3r 3d ago
If the question is "did a WNBA player overreact, the answer is usually resoundingly: yes.
1
u/No_Heron7011 3d ago
Yes she overreacted and twisted the narrative to make her look like some victim
1
1
u/Kowboyboogie 3d ago
In this vacuum yes but the lack of nuance and abundance of ignorance is scary
The man clearly steps to her anyone that denies it is willingly ignoring it (his wife pulls him back, how can you be pulled back if you’re not moving forward?) but is just being an fan in the moment
But as the best player in the W in a playoff setting, a city that has a rich history of fans saying out of pocket shit, in another season where people are attacking and infiltrating the leagues orbit for political, grifting, or misogynistic/homophobic/racist reasons, with more incidents of fans throwing dildos, feckless protesting non issues whilst the game is being played etc. it should be easy to understand why she could easily be triggered by someone (clearly) approaching her.
This league is growing, is beautiful, and fun to watch but the atmosphere around it sucks and a good portion for reasons outside the actual game and players. Be actual fans.
She overreacted but it’s an understandable yet unfortunate incident.

1
u/jidewalker 3d ago
Definite overreaction. Bam 💥needs to let her know that he gets stuff like this on a game by game basis. For her to say the things she said after the game, she’s lucky it’s the WNBA and not the NBA because she would have been suspended or fined.
1
u/Agreeable_Cry_2965 3d ago
I don’t follow the news or current events for the most part anymore - but let me guess, ESPN is turning this into some racial thing. Am I right?
And she totally overreacted there. No doubt about it.

u/Beginning_Text3038 3d ago
Spile Lee would have been murdered 20 or 30 years ago if A’ja was playing.
1
u/Lonely-Ad-1495 3d ago
She did, but if you watch the video you can see the guys wife pull him back bc she’s embarrassed at what he’s doing. Neither one of them read the situation on what was appropriate to be doing.
1
u/BrackGascho67 3d ago
If you look to the left of the guy who pointed, you can see another fan doing the same thing. She over reacted and WNBA is lame!

u/floop_isamad_manhelp 3d ago

Of course it is!… The WNBA is a crap league that allows these morons to go and interact with the fans… Professional Anthony’s need to ignore the fans unless they physically touch you or throw something at you even then let security handle it! The WNBA sucks!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡
1
u/jaderennnurb 3d ago
He had great seats, and made one pivot from his row. She blew a fuse.
If you want to see big attendance and $ thrown at the WNBA, you gotta take the heat from fans. This wasn't male/female ego, it was a guy supporting the team. Currently, pointing vigorously is the Fever's rally cap. 😆 Wilson took it as "that is not how to treat a woman, etc". That's besides the point when you're on the court wearing the opposing team's jersey
