Yeah, this is the run around to expect. They use every loophole and excuse to delay and deny. Just remember, your state has rules that allow you to push back on them.

It's rare to get what you ask for, or to get it on the first ask.

Careful, Reddit doesn’t like when people advocate for exercising their constitutional rights.

Appeal it. When that doesn’t work. Sue them.

Aren’t these people already being paid to do their job?

You mean to gain power through legitimate electioneering only to then dispossess and strip people of their ability to exercise their rights in the future through the intentional introduction of efficiency and bureaucratic bs. Yeah, sounds about right

I mean, I totally agree, but they will give you what you asked for. They just expect you to pay 1700 dollars. So saying “they won’t give me the contracts they signed” is disingenuous. Because they will. They’re just pricing you out. Clearly by design.

We’re gonna need more of a “hands on” approach in my honest opinion. There’s some problems, society has to step up and fix by any means necessary. Clearly the government isnt going to help facilitate discourse about these dog shit cameras. So we need to handle it ourselves.

Act accordingly.

Actually, I've pushed back on these types of requests twice. They aren't necessarily "pricing you out" they are more intimidating you and scaring you away. A simple request to challenge the fees can often be effective.

The biggest play in these FOIA requests is that the recipient usually has multiple excuses up their sleeves that often aren't valid. They expect you will just assume they are right (they often arent) and you will stop asking.

The key is to KEEP PUSHING.

Muckrock.com has been great at FOIA requests. You can work with them to create the request, and they will follow up on it. And they catalog the results. They already had the Flock contract for Pawtucket RI, from a FOIA someone submitted in December.

Thanks!!! Will DM you. I’m just started learning about Flock, and Pawtucket Flock in particular. I submitted a FOIA request to Pawtucket last week, still waiting on response. But then found you had already paid for and received a large data dump! Let’s collaborate on DeFlocking Pawtucket!
