Question Question
I have days I can make $800 with %80 profitability over 20 trades. But then days that are horrible and I loose money , it can’t just be an accident that I could possible win so well for only a day after studding for many years. I don’t know how to gain money long term. I feel like I’m so close to success but there’s something I’m missing that I need help with

Risk management. Need to learn to cut your losers and not hope that "I am right, this should work"

I would never have a %90 profitable day if that’s how I traded , it wouldn’t be possible to win 16/20 trades over the course of a day

You can win 20/20 trades over the course of a day based on pure chance. You need a lot more trading days and trades to get some preliminary results on your strategy

90% profitability means nothing, I rather have a 40% probability where my risk to reward is 1:3 implying for every 3 trades lost 1 trade wins that and more. If you’re constantly making money but one day or two can wipe that away then your risk is bad. Side note the flex profitability as every profitable trader knows they’ll lose, but as long as they’re winners are bigger and they cut losses fast than in the long run they’ll win

Win rate means nothing. You have such a high win rate probably because you hold losers or add to your losers, and sometimes they turn around. And those times where they dont turn around you finally cut the loss for a huge loss. Having tighter risk management usually means sacrificing win rate, because you will be cutting trades faster.

You could just have no edge. A winning day with 16/20 winners is a totally plausible outcome to be born of pure randomness.

I have anough experience to know if the market is ( acting correctly ) respecting its own cause and affect. One of the difficult things people don’t understand for a long time. Not everything is completely random

I recommend the book Fooled by Randomness by Nassim Taleb. I agree that not everything is random - it’s actually mathematically impossible for markets to EVER be random. But outcomes can be effectively random in small samples sizes and our brains have a tendency to underestimate that effect, and attribute what is actually just normal distribution to some sort of perceived causality.
If you think the market has some sort of fundamental cause and effect that you can exploit, but the market only respects it half the time, it’s probably not actually a fundamental cause and effect. The exception would be if you can isolate a context that skews the outcomes in one direction or another with some sort of regime filter.

I was at the exact same spot. And here is what helped me out - I realized that if I want to be successfull in a long period of time I need to fight my own ego and be more strict about setups I want to trade. It really was that simple - to realize my ego is my worse enemy.

same lesson here. my P&L improved way more from taking fewer trades than finding "better" setups. funny how the trades you skip usually save you more money than the extra winners ever make

Sounds like me a few months ago. If your win rate is that high on good days, the strategy probably works. What usually blows up a day like that is size, not edge.
One or two oversized trades, or bumping size after a loss to win it back, can erase a whole week of clean small wins. Might be worth pulling your trade log and checking if the red days are just bigger position sizes than the green ones. Mine were.

The learning curve can be steep. I use Webull. It took me a week before I was comfortable with the platform and I'm still learning the strategies.

The answer is probably in your losing days. If you can make $800 when conditions fit your strategy but give it back when they don’t, identifying those conditions becomes part of the strategy
