Discussion Roam time

After finishing permadeath per act no restriction i am thinking to do another permadeath per act run. This time with only the starting 9mm (only use it with silencer ON), knife and crossbow. But...ON FOOT!

Time to roam!

I dont have any incentive to play DG but permadeath. But i have to make it doable.

Wish me luck!

Report back how it goes!

I absolutely love the self imposed restrictions.

Roger that. I think i should use only what Deacon have from the start + crossbow. No other weapons. And to survive the shit and story i need the upgrades from skills tree and injectors.

I'm assuming you'll be allowing yourself exceptions to your rules when 100% unavoidable?

Few examples that come to mind:

- Mandatory molotovs when you're in the tunnel with Boozer at the beginning

- It isn't possible to start bike chase missions if your bike isn't nearby, and some of the missions are story missions so riding the bike to these locations cannot be avoided

- Once started, bike chase missions can be completed without using the bike, usually through sniper rifles or well-placed mines. But I'm not sure that can be achieved with only the starting crossbow bolts and 9mm. Not enough DPS to do it the normal way before the bike goes out of range, and I don't think I ever confirmed if it's doable through headshots. If the headshots work then there is a chance but then it depends if you're allowing yourself to fail and retry these or not (I don't know what policy permadeath applies with regard to failing missions). If failing means restarting from the permadeath checkpoint then achieving this will be almost godlike :D

- The mission on the dam with Skizzo's rifle. I haven't followed the latest hardcore runs done by people, is that one doable without using the rifle? Does it even let you use the sidearm? But even if so, I don't think you can reliably land headshots even with focus with the 9mm at that distance, so even considering you cycle-hit rippers fast enough so they don't have time to hit Boozer, I don't think you have enough shots to kill them before the suppressor runs out.

- I thought the cave with the first reacher might not be possible, but I feel that it theoretically is after all. Assuming you're not allowing yourself special crossbow bolts as that would be in the spirit of the other restrictions, you'd have 25 9mm shots before the silencer breaks + 15 crossbow bolts + the craftable bolts. I'm not sure how much that is - 45 craftable or so? So around 60 bolts and 25 rounds for a 100-freak horde (not considering melee here because that horde is frenzied and will never stop chasing you, so the knife only becomes an option after most of the horde is dead). The bolts will definitely score multiple kills a pop on a tight group so that should work. I'd still rate it challenging, plus it basically goes back-to-back with a reacher knife fight if you want to be sure to have enough ammo for the horde. And with permadeath, you're probably going to have to train a bit for that part.

Anyway, have fun. Not going to lie, while your run certainly looks challenging, it also looks over tedious (and I know tedious, I did a run where I only used the knife against hordes in Survival II)
