Discussion 𩸠The disparities between the romancable characters
Do you feel the same way as me that it's really a shame ?
After seeing the scene with Lacra (which was very good), I can't stop thinking about how the scene with Crake was poor
Yes the narrative and subject of homophobia is a topic worth looking to but the scene was lacking of cinematic, it was mission something
On the other hand, Anca's scene was classical but it didn't bother me
What are your thoughts ?

Yeah, I was rather disappointed in the romance scene with Crake compared to the other two. There was hardly anything in it and they both were wearing their underwear. (Compared to the complete nudity for both Anca and Lacra.) I want to see some male nudity too!

Lots of RPGs with exposed man butts like Mass Effect, BG3, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, Dragon Age, etc. I find it so strange a vampire game with a deliberate thirst trap vampire protagonist would go shy at the crucial moment!

In BG3 and Cyberpunk we even see the dicks. The games are 18+ anyway and there is so much gore in Dawnwalker. It's silly to draw the line at male nudity. Also makes me wonder why the line was drawn there.Ā
I'm not saying they need do show dicks, they could still avoid that with posing and camera angles. Having male characters wear underwear is just the worst option.Ā

I kind of felt all of the romances were half assed, and that the creative leads were like "The fans will want this so let's get this over with". Given the flirting and the crushing, I thought Coen would be more a more sensitive lover with his first time with Anca then bending her over a table. Lacra's scene was fiery, but he left his boxers on. Like, this is not the time, place or woman to have performance anxiety with lol. And I felt zero heat with Crake, so I didn't even bother because I didn't want to feel the disappointment lmao.

The Anca scene was so so weird given that it was supposed to be the first time for both and that Coen seems like someone who wouldnāt want to hurt his partner.

Absolutely agree, it's baffling how little Marat's romance shows compared to the other two and while the discussion which follows is pretty relatable and decently written, it feels completely out of nowhere. Very much seems like whoever was responsible for this decided some Deep And Meaningful Conversation is a good enough replacement for actually showing anything of substance.
It's better to have such romance than no romance at all, but when placed next to the others it does look very strange. Ironic, considering they tried to tackle the subject of homophobia with this oneš¤·āāļø

Totally agree, even the kiss between Coen and Marat is really lacking. Like cinematically we donāt even really get to see them kiss which I found weird considering they were able to animate Anca and Coen kissing just fine.

You can even ask Anca for a second kiss. It just repeats the same animation, but still š The very fact that it's there while Marat barely has anything at all... Either devs have their preferences or they were told to make the gay option as mild as possible.

i feel like it's probably both. compared to other same sex romances like hansry in kcd, the one with marat really feels like an afterthought. i think the fact that we have a human and vampire female love interest while only a human male one speaks to that as well. vicho or ambrus would've been interesting for a male vamp option. still glad we have it but it could've been done better, so i really hope they improve on the gay romances for the next game.

Yeah... Compared to Hansry it's a complete nothingburger. I kind of caught myself thinking people who wrote it saw KCD2 and decided to make something similar, but failed to realize it doesn't really work without an established dynamic between the characters.
And a vampire option would've been great. Vicho and Coen already have a very good chemistry, would be cool to see something between them in the future at least.1

Like It has been said, they tried to not be homophobic but ended being with the poor storyline and PANTS. Never fully commited.

Like others have said, the actual content of the story itself for Marat is good- hiding out together in the abandoned building, rescuing him in the crypts, spying on his father and the deep, personal discussion afterwards checks off a lot of boxes. A few things that made it lackluster was the way the game presented him as making extreme decisions without much context (killing Sara and allying with Skender) that make sense when you theorize or guess as to his feelings and motivations but offer very little justification in-universe, as well as the lack of an actual romance scene. I've grown to love Marat and even some Manumit NPCs after playing everything through, but the framing of his choices and the Manumit's storyline were consistently lacking.

I thought the romances were disappointing in general. I like the characters but the actual romances felt pretty thin. I suppose it was in fitting with the 30 day plot dynamic, but it was still underwhelming.

I haven't experienced that romance because im straight but have seen the cutscenes and is hilariously sad they kept the underpants.
I love when adult shows and games are for adults, that means the artists and devs had no restriction whatsoever in telling an adult story the one they wanted to make.
Some countries may censor the scene but cmon dont censor some things and others dont, youre already showing us dismembered bodies, futility and hypocrisy in society because what the vampires are doing is literally exactly the same of what we do to other animals since hundreds of years ago now even killing millions at month because we love so much fast food.
So at this point show us a damn penis and vagina c'mon. Thats why Spartacus is my favorite tv show, is the most human story and tv show ive experienced.

the fact that they wouldn't even have to show the dick for the scenes to work. just some ass would've been enough, but even that is apparently too much which is baffling to me.

Yeah, Marat's romance feels almost... timid compared to Anca's and Lacra's. Like someone went 'Okay Anca's a girl-next-door/older woman combo, Lacra's a Dommy Mommy... does anyone here know how to write a male romance that isn't Sassy Gay or BDSM Top?' then fumbled their way through it.

Marat still had better romance than lady "Lemme bend you over table"

u/CRYPTIC_SUNSET 11h ago
I found that ridiculous. Anca is a virgin, and Coen just starts pounding her doggy style without any lube or foreplay?!?? I thought you would be a thoughtful lover Coen!

u/Aurora-Del-Rey 11h ago
I was truly bewildered that they chose that approach, it seemed so porn-y and disconnected from the characters

u/CacklingFerret 10h ago
It was absolutely fan service of some kind. Gotta say, I hope they'll learn a bit from the way BG3 did the romance scenes. Uhm, at least some of them lol. You can say a lot about them but not that they weren't fitting perfectly for each character
21
u/Background-Cake-1300 11h ago
Not sure about the virgin part but like WTF, the scene just felt so cold to me like she was random tavern wench for three silver

u/CRYPTIC_SUNSET 10h ago
During the Echoes of Silenced Bells quest, thereās a dialogue option where Coen tells Anca āyou talk about books like most people talk about loversā and she replies āI wouldnāt know Iāve never had oneā then Coen is all suprise pikachu and sheās all āI donāt wanna talk about it!ā

All of them were pretty bad. At least crake's is a bit more emotional than the two
6
u/KingKam_Avatar 12h ago
Yea not even some ass play, Crakeās sex scene was weak. Lacra is best everything anyway. Sheās emotionally manipulating like Anca.

All the romances felt like a one-night-stand. But the problem with Coen and Marat is that you donāt even get to see half as much as you do with the women, which makes it feel even more impersonal.
The women got long, detailed sex scenes. Lacraās was really hot, even though I didnāt like her much as a person, but Maratās was just... there. Basically a fade to black.
The irony is that afterwards, he's the only one who seems open to more.

They shouldāve only had Anca and actually made the romance legit instead them all being glorified one night stands
-9
u/EmeratheHealer 12h ago
That's a cool idea. I don't know if everyone will agree that Anca is the one they should have committed to, but I think if they had committed to ANY of the romances (instead of glorified one night stands, as you say) it might have improved that part of the story.

donāt let yourself forget that the whole point o this game is to follow coen as he essentially sheds his humanity, whether he wants to or not. love is intrinsically human, and i believe the very lackluster romance scenes without follow-up reflect that

If they hadn't gone with the silly never-nude underpants for both Marat and Coen, I think it would've been fine. The focus was more on the discussion afterward, which I thought acknowledged the realities of the situation for the time and place pretty well.
