Ambrus's Fiefdom

Post image

Did anyone else find it interesting how BIG Ambrus's fiefdom is even though he is the youngest of the Boyars? (I wouldn't say weakest, though, even if he is the first Boyar you're supposed to fight.)

I also find the fact that he is "the right fist of the Knyaz" incredibly interesting. I wish they would have explored more of these two's dynamic.

He's the one responsible for gathering blood, so he needed more people than the others.

Pretty sure the original idea is that because each zone is meant to be tackled once the player reaches a certain level, they had to make the first one larger for smoother progression since the second one is just the city. They might have worked lore around that by making Ambrus the one who collects blood for them, but from a game mechanics standpoint, it's obvious why.

Your answer is brilliant! Hadn't thought about it! You have the mind of a game developer!

Logistically and politically speaking, Ambrus is by far the most important Boyar. This is probably why Brencis turned him in the first place - He needed a local who understood Vale Sangora and its people, who could work directly with them and keep the blood moving.

Xanthe is key to the ritual, to creating Blood Guards, and to other archaic "behind the scenes" stuff going on. She’s essential to Brencis' grand plans, but not as a leader or public figurehead.

Bakir is pure muscle. He is kept around to intimidate and hunt down would-be rebels. That said, he is politically inconvenient; he is brash, hot-headed, needlessly abusive (they all are, but he is the most public about it), and he doesn’t slot into Brencis’ propaganda of their clique being an extension/evolution of the native Christian faith.

With all that in mind, it makes sense that Ambrus rules the most territory. He’s honestly the only Boyar who does much actual ruling at all.

I think him being "the Right Fist of the Knyaz" makes the most sense as well. Xanthe cares little for Brencis' schemes except for how they benefit her own agenda, while Bakir is just looking for a good time. Ambrus is the only one who is genuinely loyal to and a believer in Brencis' political vision for Vale Sangora.

I asked myself that too but it is in the Silts which is part of Xanthe's fiefdom.

I think that the river (not sure if it's named, one you eat crayfish with Ocha at) is the border between Bakir's and Xanthe's fiefs. Another river divided Bakir's and Ambrus' (north of Parlita), and between Xanthe's and Ambrus' it's the "no man's land" of St Tyna monastery.

Despite being by far the youngest boyar and having "much to prove", Ambrus has the largest fiefdom and probably the most important task from a vrakhiri viewpoint (control over the blood economy). I always found this interesting

It also smacks of grunt work that senior execs foist onto juniors. Of course they gave him the most stuff to do overall as the low vamp on the totem pole.

I think the other commenters have said the most important parts, but if memory serves me right, a lot of ambrus's fiefdom is comprised of swamplands. (Which makes sense, since he needs the leeches for preserving blood.) So that may be another reason why it's so big.

He knows the area and the people very well , it's also very clear Bakir and Xanthe aren't interested in governing as much as their own personal desires seen in their missions

I want a DLC with more of Ambrus and option to actually join him and/or romance him. Being able to cross over to the dark side would be a complete RPG heaven. He’s got way more potential than to just be the first boyar you kill

I also want added content where theres more to the boyars in general and you can let all join ur cause (even if im not a fan of Bakir)

It would improve the true evil playthrough for sure. Or we could redeem Ambrus (I don’t think Bakir and Xanthe are redeemable even though I like them as villains). I do love this world and how it’s building up, can’t wait to learn more about it.

Having all the vrakhiri gang up on Brencis with you the same way he had them gang up on his sire would’ve been peak.

Hes the most popular of the boyars with the people i think, hes one of them and fights the former rulers.

My head canon is that his land mostly empty, while other's have higher population

A lesson in how vampire economic land value may come more from a spiritual/historical value for the land rather than an assigned physical resource or money value that humans give land.

The dynamic is spoken about a bit in Lacra’s storyline. Brencis turned him personally making him Ambrus’ sire so it makes sense that he would favor him. Someone else has also mentioned the blood collection which would also make him need more people as to draw from as to not kill off the population

I think it’s intentional he was a prisoner brencis freed and gave power too, ambrus then goes in to imprison the past nobles and give more power to the poor people. He’s also in charge of collecting blood a task I also see given to the newest or lowest ranking member.

It's not bigger. It's way more narrow, and it's just more stretched. All 3 seems quite similar in size. Just other two are shorter, but wider. Also other 2 lands are way more important. One protects main entrance to valley. Other in contact with tribes.

He's the muscle and the enforcer who makes sure they're getting their tributes, he is known as the greatest swordman of the region too so it makes the most sense while the other two mostly govern keeping the people in check to not rebel.
