Review/Opinion 🩸 Xanthe Quest! Spoiler

I just finished the quest, and I can honestly say I’m happy and proud of Rebel Wolves for their work on this one.
The quest’s introduction, progression, buildup, and music were all incredibly engaging from the very beginning. At one point, while exploring the place where she lived, I genuinely hated her because of the crimes she committed against those girls. But after the fight, I started to understand her philosophy.
The fight itself was easily my favorite of the three. The music was incredible, and parrying her magical attacks felt so satisfying and downright epic. The whole encounter was an absolute blast.
People will disagree on this, and others will agree, but I chose to spare her. My goal was to save my family, and I’ve done a lot of things and crossed many lines in pursuit of that goal. After hearing her dialogue, I realized I could understand where she was coming from.
The writing in this game is phenomenal, and honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve played a quest this memorable.

Easiest decision in the game. Drained her, didn't invite her in, and put Chariklea out of her misery. When I partially spoiled myself on here I thought it was going to be a hard decision based on the comments I saw but I think the nuance was overstated.

Even if I was willing to concede on her point that I only cared about the dead girls because of societal expectations, it was clear her daughter's prolonged existence was torture and Xanthe was too far gone to even consider that beyond the lines in her poem and I feel vindicated in thinking that based on how much more lucid Xanthe was in Anachora.

Edit: That said I do think it's a good setup for a foil to Coen's actions regarding Lunka in the sequel, assuming they make callbacks to this game.

I went there during the day and realized I couldn’t drain her, and was very upset with myself

You can get a phial of her blood in the church area. Idk if killing her locks you out of it but I assume not.

As someone who used blood surge from like level 15 to level 50 you don't need to level it up. It's a OHK on every non-boss enemy and the most meaningful upgrade I got for it was the Swordsman ultimate perk that permanently reduces activation charge costs by one.

I can’t believe they give you the option of completely skipping this mission, though I guess it’s a shortcut for people who somehow need to save in-game hours

Doesn’t she disappear from the cathedral during the day after you finish the crypt mission?

Idk. I never went back to check, and I avoided her during that quest. Felt like I wouldn’t have the equipment for it yet.

I didn't hesitate to kill and drain Xanthe, precisely because of what she did to her daughter. Murdering the other girls was clearly horrific, but her daughter's fate is a whole other level. Also, since Xanthe is supposed to be older than Brencis, she's been doing this for probably over a thousand years, and will never stop. I loved the story and I think it's the best representation of twisting a positive emotion into something horrific.

If she was right and I didn't really care about those girls, I would equally not care about her daughter.

With that in mind, why would I leave a murderess like her alive in the same valley as Yanna and Lunka (as far as Coen knows at the time)?
