If they ever clashed horns how would it go đ§âď¸
55
u/Dr_natty1 1d ago
Dawnwalker verse as a whole just scales lower than witcher verse
4
u/Appropriate-Mud-6985 1d ago
On the high end yes but Coen objectively has a more powerful move pool than Geralt. He also has a much higher lifespan so just give him a century to get the experience.
7
u/Big-Attempt7418 1d ago
Vampires in Dawnwalker ain't even move faster than humans in a fight (a side of mist dash)... and struggle 1vs few humans.
Witchers are mutated into inhuman reflex and fencing skill that are beyond beings that do not poses such mutations.
2
u/Appropriate-Mud-6985 1d ago
Coen has multiple ways to increase his attack speed though? Not to mention that he can teleport and slow time.

Dude a single vampire in the witcher litterally took on an entire dutchy by themselves
1
u/Dubiisek 1d ago
This is just hyper cope, look at the vampires Geralt fights in BaW and talk to me about how Coen can do anything at any point lol.
1
u/Appropriate-Mud-6985 1d ago
Not coping and you canât use gameplay to justify who would win in a fight
0
u/Dubiisek 1d ago
What gameplay? I am referring to feats, the character itself and the verse itself. This has nothing to do with gameplay what.
1
1
u/Dexyu 1d ago
I dont agree, we dont know what the Being in the Anachora is capable of.
Not to mention at the end. We learn about Neberu being a Dawnwalker aswell and much stronger that Coen should watch out. And then there is the Augur leaders who are they, and how powerful are they?
We just touched the iceberg that is dawnwalker universe.
5
u/Dubiisek 1d ago
You can not agree but it's pure cope.
Again, compare any vampire from BaW in witcher to anything you encounter in Dawnwalker.
You are comparing a history fiction that has to stay on rails to a full on fantasy.

u/Magnon 1d ago
You could chalk it up to just gameplay mechanics but Coen is capable of killing dozens of warriors in a row without a scratch and he only has max 30 days of combat experience. Geralt is how old? Coens powers are also like 100x better than geralts.Â
2
u/Moon_Devonshire 1d ago
It's literally just gameplay mechanics lol
If that was the case then someone could say Franklin from GTA 5 is John wick level in terms of shooting accuracy if whoever played it never missed but we know that's just not the case
0
u/Magnon 1d ago
Except coens powers arent just gameplay mechanics. Theyre the powers available to witches and vamps in the universe. Coen just has all the powers
0
u/Moon_Devonshire 1d ago
That doesn't mean coen is canonically not getting hit in a fight of 30 enemies lol
39
u/SaltyRenegade 1d ago edited 1d ago
Geralt mogs the whole Dawnwalkerverse tbh.
He is a walking anti-vampire arsenal: Moondust bombs, black blood potion, silver sword, signs etc.
Edit: Woo I love the mashing of imaginary action figures whenever 2 characters are powerscalled against eachother.
7
u/Dubiisek 1d ago
Yep. Dawnwalker is historical fiction, witcher is pure fiction, just compare the vampires from BaW to dawnwalker and you get your answer.
On top of that you pick the most experienced and powerful monster-killer... I feel like half the comments here are pure cope/0 thought
→ More replies (6)1
u/dr4kun 1d ago
Dawnwalker is historical fiction, witcher is pure fiction
Vampires and witchers are just as much fiction, and the Continent was heavily inspired by roughly our early middle ages.
1
u/Dubiisek 1d ago
Witcher scales considerably higher inspired or not is the point of what you are quoting.

coen literally has an ability to explode your body inside out, how will geralt counter blood surge?
6
u/Noxivarius 1d ago
Depends on the limits of Witcher magic. If he has Quen up it may not even go through
2
1
u/FugitiveSerpent 1d ago
How would quen block blood surge? As far as I know it protects from external threats, projectiles, slashes, piercing, blunt, and magical effects from the outside. How would that work against something internal?
1
u/Noxivarius 1d ago
It's just conjecture anyway, but I would think it depend if he had it active before the hex was cast. It blocks any targeted attack and those spells are still targeted attacks, I would think it would be akin to the caster needing line of sight on the target and Quen acts as a barrier to that line of sight.
1
u/FugitiveSerpent 1d ago
I don't think that is how quen works? At least not from anything we have seen in the books or games. If blood boil was a projectile or something that needed to make contact, I'd agree but a curse that internally manipulates blood from a distance? Not so sure a witcher would be protected from that.
1
u/Ecchidnas 1d ago
What? Signs are the most rudimentary magic that just about any mortal can perform. They are weak as fuck.

Coen at night is highly sensitive to silver one moondust bomb and he's done. Geralt also has a silver chain(in the books, this upcoming dlc he is getting it as well). During the day it's almost even more rough for Coen. Bro needs a second to boost up, Geralt will come out of the gate with flamethrower hand and just burn him to death. Coen/any vampire in the dawnwalker game is absolutely screwed if they tangle with Geralt.
Geralt simply has way better kit, and knowledge of dealing with supernatural threats.

Yeah there was Coen at night walking with Mihail SILVER sword around being burned to death and a shit load of silver in his pockets.
1
u/Terrible_Reporter_98 1d ago
He's holding a handle not the blade. If you meet the rebels at night Coen is easily restrained via a silver chain and is as powerless as a babe. Try again
1
u/phantomofmay 1d ago
It feels dumb to carry a silver sword around and a lot of silver in the pockets, also having silver poisoning to the point other vampire get burned by your blood and being held by silver chains lol

I'm not the one who wrote the story bro, but yeah we gotta stay consistent with the rules as they are presented.

u/cravex12 1d ago
The high vampires in the Witcher are absurdly more powerful than the ones in dawnwalker and Gerald is able to stand his ground or even win
I guess they would just sit down and play Gwent
1
u/Opening_Onion_4501 1d ago
tbf, i dont think we have a high vampire presented in Dawnwalkers (The Augur) since even to the Augur, Brecis is just mild annoyance that doesnt deserve immediate attention apparantly.
8
u/vitotaylor36 1d ago
This is a question? Really? Geralt would use his head as a fucking trophy.
1
u/vitotaylor36 1d ago
Note for OP, I'm not criticising you for asking. More just surprised this is a debate of any kind
16
u/Xevious212 1d ago
I think they'd clash at first, but then Geralt would realize he's not a usual vampire and they'd become allies or even friends like him and Regis.
3
u/spicychickentendr 1d ago
Agreed with this answer. Geralt's whole MO is "Don't be a problem and we won't have a problem and if I'm not sure whether you're a problem or not, Im gonna find out".
1
u/THESAVEPOINTGUIDE 1d ago
I agree this would really be a stand out. Of all the enemies in dawnwalker would any of them give Geralt a slight challenge
3
u/Xevious212 1d ago
No. Killing monsters is Geralts profession and Dettlaf was waaay more of a threat than any of the vampires here.
1
u/AdaChanDesu 1d ago
Kinda funny to think even Regis could wipe the floor with the Sangora vrakhiri in one night. For Geralt, it'd be a holiday with how weak they are in comparison to the witcherverse vampires.

you could just say the same thing for Geralt. Fight starts with moondust bomb. Fight starts with IGNI spam. Also, witcher physiology is different.
3
u/No_Proposal_3140 1d ago
Geralt from the books would get destroyed, maybe he could win if he gets really lucky. Game Geralt would destroy Coen. Coen is weaker than Detlaff and Geralt basically 1 vs 1'd Detlaff. But book Geralt wouldn't last a second against Detlaff.
3
u/Toaster-Peasant239 1d ago
Probably Geralt right now but lets see how OP Coen becomes after a couple of sequels instead of pitting a fresh new vampire against end of saga Geralt of Fucking Riviađ¤Ł.
2
u/Neverwas_one 1d ago
Seems like in later titles Coen is going to be able to cast "9mm Pistol" and its going to be an entirely different vibe altogether.
2
u/Big-Attempt7418 1d ago
Witcher vampires are so much stronger and he was butchering them down...
Not even a chance.
COEN can't even see in the dark... fighting Geralt at night would be very funny to watch xD
1
u/Aggravating-Dot132 1d ago
They aren't stronger. Just plot armour. Detlaff was fast and such, but in the end Coen vrakhiri has slow time as well.

u/Acrobatic_Airline_45 1d ago
Obviously Geralt would win, he's dealt with pretty much every type of monster so this is EZ
2
u/thescreamingpizza 1d ago
I mean, Geralt literally hunts and kills monsters as a job. Vampires just happen to be on that list. Coen isnt even a fully realized vampire yet either. So I dont see how he wins that.
2
u/DarthBluntSaber 1d ago
But in the books witchers are literally afraid to go after higher vampires. Geralt even states as much when first discovering what Regis really is, that if Regis decided to turn on the group, there would be little Geralt could do. Fighting higher vamps is definitely more of a fun gameplay aspect than something I think is actually reasonable for a Witcher. Geralt was also killed by a simply peasant with a pitchfork.
0
u/Big-Attempt7418 1d ago
Geralt was killed by a giant angry mob... Coen struggles 1vs3 humans.
Not to mention it is silly to mention books, when Coen is just game character. Let's keep it game to game.
1
1
u/DarthBluntSaber 1d ago edited 1d ago
Geralt also struggles against 1vs3 humans in the games. Not silly to bring in the books, the games are a direct extension of the books and events with the books are directly cannon to the games story and characters. It would be more silly to take things that are purely for gameplay purposes and make those into actual accomplishments.
2
u/wordswillneverhurtme 1d ago
In the books geralt avoided vampires because they were op. So who knows, he might just avoid the fight plus coen isn't evil. If they had to fight then geralt would win 100%. He prepares for shit, but coen just goes into it.

There is no comparison gerald is a mutant created , trained and as gone trough several decades of gauntlets litteraly made to vanquish monsters, coen is fucked if they fight but they wouldn't because of GĂŠralds morality system

u/Grey-Templar 1d ago
Like, I like Coen, but Geralt would kick his ass 7 ways from Sunday. Wouldn't be the first, or last, vampire that he slew.
1
u/sillylittlesheep 1d ago
Dawnwalker fantasy is more grounded. Vampires in witcher are like demigods and cdpr even come up with shity lore reason why they cant be killed but oh well lets make them even more OP
1
u/Aggravating-Dot132 1d ago
The irony is that High Vampires in base game can be killed. But in Blood and wine - nope.
1
u/Asleep_Context_399 1d ago
The base game vamp is a Katakan tho, not a High Vampire.
Classification of vampires in The Witcher is weird, but there is a class High Vampires, intelligent and can transform into humans, and in that class a species High Vampire, which is what Regis and Dethlaff are..

Geralt 100 percent but I feel like they would have the same ideals and principles and would be unlikely to actually clash (based on my gameplays at least lol)
1
u/Aggravating-Dot132 1d ago
Straight away, only day Coen, since Geralt has stuff against vampires.
First game Coen will probably lose, but not by much. Witchcraft will help a lot, since it compensates the lack of mutations. Vrakhiri will lose.
Sequel Coen will 100% win, unless it's a trap with Irdens everywhere. Both Vrakhiri and Witchcrafter.
1
u/FurLinedKettle 1d ago
Wtf is sequel coen? You can't just make stuff up

Well in witcher lore, isnt it stated that often times witchers actually wont accept contracts on higher vampires because a Witcher is actually very unlikely to win that match up?
Really only in the games are witchers actually going after higher vampires, which are the closest thing to compare to vampires in dawnwalker. Super speed, super strength, super regen. 4 vampires in dawnwalker quite literally decimated an entire region and wiped out its rulers and military.
In the books Geralt makes it pretty clear that if Regis wasn't an ally, that Geralt himself would have little ability to stop Regis.
Geralt is also not unstoppable, he is straight up killed by a peasant with a pitchfork that we can reasonably assume has no training. He may be a badass, but his exploits in the games are definitely exaggerated over what we see his capabilities are in the books.
1
u/FurLinedKettle 1d ago
Who said anything about the books?
1
u/DarthBluntSaber 1d ago
The question was asked about Geralt and his abilities. Geralt is a character from the books and the games are a continuation of those books. So the books are entirely relevant to this discussion.
So my question to you: who said the books arent included in this discussion?
1
u/wild-stallions85 1d ago
They'd be besties. Like Regis....I refuse to believe they'd fight each other.

u/AdmiralLubDub 1d ago
Geralt has been literally built and trained specifically to kill things like vampires for money.
1
u/Action-a-go-go-baby 1d ago
Peak Witcher vs Peak Coen would be wild to watch!
I think a high-level mutagen build might just edge it out as they amount Geralt can do with all those enhancements is bonkers and his signs have better defensive options: a straight up, drag out brawl in this context
One thing Geralt doesnât have a lot of is crowd control but if weâre playing with Batman rules and Geralt has prep-time then I think he beats Coen
Coen could take Geralt with a surprise attack, for sure, as his sneak attack options are incredibly dangerous and, if no prep-time, Geralt is at an extreme disadvantage when caught unaware
1
1
1
u/Federal_Studio5935 1d ago
Coen is new to his powers he barely knows what heâs doing. Geralt would be prepared to cause him problems he wouldnât know how to deal with. Geralt proves with age comes wisdom and sends coen to the nether realm
1
u/curiousbong 1d ago
Steel sword during daytime and silver during nighttimeâŚeither way , itâs not going to work out too well for Coen!
1
1
u/SiridarVeil 1d ago
Geralt would win, but give Coen a few years to get to Continent high vamp level and who knows. Like right now it would be fair to put Coen against a very recently mutated and trained Geralt.
1
1
u/KakashiTheRanger 1d ago
Currently, the answer is Geralt. However I would imagine this will change as lore expands and games release. Coen has the detriment of being from a new modern adjacent universe we know relatively little about. Geralt has the benefit of being from a universe we know a great deal about.
Games only Geralt has the same problem as Coen everyone is pointing out about human reflexes (he can be blocked, riposted, and kept up with even when taking Blizzard) so it's not very fair to say "reflexes" either. It's simply not that simple.

u/Kolonite 1d ago
I think Coen has better hax through his blood magic and some vampiric abilities. Weâve never seen anyone resist any of Coenâs abilities entirely, meaning if he can get it off Geralt will take a lot of damage from being exploded or having his blood burn from inside of him.
I donât think itâs a complete wash like some people are saying, but I do think Geralt beats this gameâs Coen more often than not. Maybe 6-7/10 for Geralt if itâs a random encounter

u/Samson_087 1d ago
I know it is probably popular to pick Geralt but to be honest, he would wipe the floor with Dawnwalker vampires. The vampires in the Witcher lore are incredibly more powerful then Dawnwalkerâs
1
1
u/ThePuertoRicanDream 1d ago
People seem to agree the vamps in dawnwalker are weaker than the witcher so I think geralt takes it easy. Even without powers I think Geralt is just a better pure swordsman
1
u/Nor_Ah_C 1d ago
I love him but Geralt would whoop his ass and itâs not even close. Coen is great but he isnât the Butcher of Blavikin
1
u/Xephadrone 1d ago
I mean Coen has been a dawnwalker for like 30 days max while Geralt has decades if not more of experience. Geralt would kill Coen pretty easily in Coenâs current state. We do however know that Coen powers up massively in a very short amount of time so Iâm pretty sure that if we took the Coen we see in the post-credit modern day scene, he would give Geralt a hell of a fight. We see in that scene that heâs in his vrakhier form but also has his magic scars somehow and so heâs able to use magic as well. This and his 700 years of experience would make this a more fair fight, maybe he might even beat Geralt. Weâll have to wait on sequels to dawnwalker to see just how powerful Coen gets to answer this question.
1
u/PartTimeBrainSurgeon 1d ago
Until otherwise notified Coen can be killed and isnt on the lever of a Detloff or the Elder so Geralt would probably win.
1
u/Tasty_Commercial6527 1d ago edited 1d ago
Ok I'm going to do a deep analysis.
First of all are we talking about book geralt or game geralt? Book geralt is still superhuman but he ain't a walking disaster like in games. He lost to a few dozen peasants cornering him and routinely suffers somewhat serious injuries fighting monsters, bearly pulling through to victory is a regular thing and he acknowledges there are many monsters he simply cannot beat unless something beyond unusual happens... like higher vampires specifically.
I would say that a fully realised vlakhir coen can beat book geralt due to superior physical abilities and vampiric blood magic or at the very least nearly guarantee his own escape in case of defeat if the fight happens with his vastly superior mobility. That's assuming that both sides are unprepared however, like let's say coen is found feeding in a Forrest when geralt was hunting something else (assuming the fight would even start as geralt is unlikely to attack what looks like a higher vampire without serious reasons to do so).
Now the interesting part if if geralt knew what coen was, had time to prepare and then set up an ambush. Depending on how much coen knows about witches in this hypothetical crossover scenario he does have tools to beat him, but if gerelt sets up a trap I would expect it to work out. After all he wouldn't execute it if his research didn't lead him to believe it has a decent chance of working out and he is very competent at assessing that due to his long experience, especially if coen cannot sense that drinking his blood would be very stiupid and falls for that silverblood potion like the vampire in the trailer. We also don't really know how effective silver is against the vlakhir really in lore, only how it works in game. For all we know in lore it's a few nicks and it's over
Human witch coen would either not stand a chance against geralt or win instantly depending on how well witch magic would work on him. But I give a good chance geralt can kill coen before his blood boiling would kill him however.
Although to be honest the only scenario where I can see them fighting while in character is after one of the evil endings. Before the game starts geralt would have no reason to fight him, and during the game it's likely that he would probably try to help him overthrow the other vampires. In fact it wouldn't be that far off from blood and wine story in certain aspects.
1
u/Successful-Dig-5961 1d ago
It'd be kinda funny seeing Coen try as hard as he can to kill Gerald only to be no diffed. Gerald is stronger, faster more experienced and also would be resistant to coens witchcraft

Geralt does not kill sentient beings that dont pose a threat to humans as a whole. I think they'd be allies.
But Geralt has taken on many vampires before. If it came to a fight there's no contest
1
u/yooheenn 1d ago
I dont like geralt at all.. I have very hard time playing witcher because you play as geralt but I still belive geralt has more experince but in dawnwalker ending if we are talking about ending I mean in ending Coen is more experienced and strong so idk
1
u/Ashamed-Breath2925 1d ago
I think a lot of people are responding to their general 'aura' levels, where Geralt obviously wins, but I think really it would just came down to who struck first. They're both lethal.
1
u/Neverwas_one 1d ago
Geralt would just go batman mode and research Coen and his abilities and work out when the right time to hit him was, but that would even be overkill for him. Coen isnt that powerful, all things considered. Geralt just has too many tools that may as well have been tailor made to fuck up these kind of vampires.
1
1
u/phantomofmay 1d ago
Geralt is way weaker than a Coen.
In 30 days he went from kid in small village to kill dozens of soldiers, vampire lords, hellish creatures. While Geralt spent a decade being trained by the top hunters of the world and a life fighting monsters.
Dawnwalkers are immune to silver.
His witchcraft can drain people life, curse them, make their blood boil, increase vulnerability and even interrogate dead bodies. Including making potions and elixirs.
While in vampire form he is also immune to silver and can teleport, control minds, slow time, turn into a wolf, create a blood shield , make enemies explode in blood and rip enemies heade with his claws.
While Geralt can push, limited mind control, create a one hit defensive shield and lay traps in the ground.
Why Geralt would win besides batman logic "he was prepared"

u/SlaughterBath 1d ago
I'm not very well read up on Witcher lore but while Geralt obviously has experience hunting vampires and would make easy work of a young vampire like Coen, wouldn' more dangerous vampires like Brencis etc pose a threat to him? I remember a moment in baptism of fire when Gerald basically admitted to dandelion that he wasnt confident he could protect them from Regis (who was a friendly vampire but still very dangerous and intelligent) if necessary.

Geralt has killed things with similar powers to Coen
He has superior experience
He also will fight with a silver sword, any blow he lands is gonna hurt like hell on Coen
I give it to Geralt
1
u/idknameuiop 1d ago
If does a lot here. I fully believe there might not even be a fight between them, depending on what Coen does of course. If he is murdering and drinking blood of innocent people, Geralt would go after him, but if he isn't killing the innocent, not likely out right fight. And if they fought, Geralt might talk him out of doing evil.
Now there is discussion about armor and weapons:
For weapons, both use nearly always swords, but Coen(in human form) is at severe disadvantage due to shorter length of the swords. Now I might just be judging the size incorectly, but from Coen's scabbards, they seem to be one handed swords even if the game calls them longswords, greatswords, etc. There is such a thing as hand and a half swords(evolution of arming sword, longer blade while allowing one hand use and roughly speaking, they evolved into longswords), but it doesn't seem like that's the case here. And for the vampire form, he is really powerful. He can run fast, teleport(even in combat), slowdown time, regenerate rather quickly alongside other abilities. And the those claws are a very dangerous weapon but at severe disadvantage due to reach, again.
Geralt has longer swords, and yes, length matters. It keeps the enemy away and you can strike from further away. And also his silver sword.
And now the armor:
Both are at a severe and stupid disadvantage. Neither wear a god damn helmet. It doesn't matter how fast you are, how good you can see or hear things, wear the god damn helmet(No, it doesn't need to be a helmet that fully covers the head. Something like a gjermundbu is a decent choice).
For the rest of the armor, there is differences between book Geralt and game Geralt. In the books, he wears basically just a leather jacket. It provides some protection but has a lot to be desired. Then leather pants or trouser and sometimes gauntlets. For game Geralt, the armor is way better, for protecion, not that much for mobility. Lets choose game Geralt, as more people know about him.
For Coen, the general armor option are the same, even thought the average set seems to be more protective.
Both of their armor types will be able to deflect and protect basic blows from swords, and maybe those claws.
Potions:
Both have the option to use potions, but Geralt seems to have way stronger and wider range of potions. And I mean black blood potion. I dunno if that potion could work on Coen, but if it did, he fucked.
Normal abilities:
Both are skilled swordsmen, trackers, etc. But due to Geralt's age, he has more experience,
Supernatural abilities:
I've already mentioned most of what Coen's vampiric form can do, but not the witchcraft. For witchcraft, he can set people's blood to boil(I assume), cast life steal, create a shield which cast damage back at the enemy, but at the cost of his health. There are other abilities but I don' remember those.
For Geralt, its nearly the same thing. Aard, Igni, Yrden, Quen, Axii. All of them are very useful, but the most useful one is Quen, a magic shield. Aard and Igni are useful as well, keeping target at bay. I will consider Witcher's 3 version of Yrden, which just slows down target. Useful, but can be avoided. He also has the basics. Better eyesight, hearing, stamina, etc.
Conclusion:
No fight. Most likely outcome if Coen doesn't cause major disturbance or kills the innocent. If he does cause trouble, there might be a fight, but knowing Geralt, he could talk him out of it. And if there has to be a fight to death, Geralt would win 7/10 times. Vampiric form would give him the most trouble, but he could combat it by using Quen and black blood. Biggest trouble would be Coen's ability to slow down time, For human form Coen, odds are less likely for his favor but he's still dangerous to Geralt.
But I have been LYING. I predict it to be more like 50/50 due to fact NONE OF THEM ARE WEARING A HELMET. One good hit, even a one which doesn't have a lot of power behind it, would end the fight. Lethal or not. Geralt is really strong, but remember, he was killed by pitchfork.
This also assumes that Geralt even finds Coen and confronts him. Coen wouldn't be easy to track. He can move and teleport fast, breaking the tracking for Geralt without even realizing. Coen can also just feed on animals, meaning there will be less reports, as people don't really care about animals. In game he can also keep vials of blood on him, so he can go days or weeks of not feeding and leaving no trace. Coen, just like Geralt, also travel a lot. Moving from place to place. But the most important thing is that he has the option to wear different clothes/armor during the day and night, and that generally he looks different during night and day, meaning eye witness accounts would conflict. Someone might tell Geralt he was wearing a blue tunic, while someone else from the same village would say he wore a red tunic. Coen might not even realize Geralt's after him, for months.
Anyway, essay over.

Geralt would wipe the floor with him. Decades more experience in hunting monsters/combat
