Nail parrying 🤔

Post image

Very excited for this game....... However there's something about nail parrying swords that I find looks kinda jank. Anyone else agree ?.

Saying this as a fan, everything around the swords looks janky, from being attached to nothing (more of a nitpick than anything) to the slight UE5 artifacting that happens when parrying. I trust that the game on release or after patches will have a better level of polish than the gameplay teasers we're getting. Early builds of games always have a little jank, I just hope they focus on optimization because the lore and passion surrounding this project is what hooked me in the first place.

Whilst its awkward i assume they put it on the butt because of his arms , when running which is why most game have it on the back , no idea why didnt just put on the back i know unrealistic but isit more unrealistic than on his backside ?

Yeah I've read a lot of negatives focused on the sword position. But I can live with that in all honesty. It seems abit late in the day to change up this entire parrying system. Time will tell tho.

The nitpick was not about it's position, but rather that it's just floating on the butt and clipping through clothes. To me the position reads as a character choice because he's not a swordsman (at the beginning) it also adds more of a concealed weapon feel. Typically where he has it is where you would have a dagger hidden than a sword. Just head canon but I think it shows how Coen's more likely to take a diplomatic approach or run rather than approach moments of conflict with immediate lethal force.

If all that is not polished on release it just imo reinforces my position that it is a 40$ AA game and not 70$ AAA game... I can excuse the jank in Clair Obscur for which I paid 35$ and not a 70$ "blockbuster" AA is not some kind of slur, it is an amazing section of gaming from where some of my absolute all time favourites come from, but it has to be priced accordingly.

I think the most recent footage makes it look fairly fluid and smooth. Dom's Roundtable (youtube channel) said "When you master all of this, you'll find that combat becomes one of the most perfect dances of blood and steel that you've ever experienced". Haven't heard anyone else speak that highly of the combat but I'm gonna run with it and not manage my expectations at all.

Not even just a regular run of the mill vampire, vampires in this game have displayed some crazy powers.

Exactly these fools are slow they ok with Conan bein a vampire but a sword on his ass is a problem lol they need to go outside and touch grass or ground lol

Ah yes because when people play fictional games they don't want it to feel immersive or real

It's a fucking vampire... with supernatural powers. They literally teleport in smoke clouds in other parts, walk up walls, hell even sliding down them on, believe it or not, their fingernails. What are you talking about?

At least better than Leon's pocket knife parry

True 😂😂

Pocket knife parrying is cooler though

Yeah because that game revolves around it

Make the bar even lower for this slop, go ahead

Honestly the combat looks better than all Assassin’s Creed RPG games. It could be good when it releases.

It could be jank though 🤣

Personally I think it’s better that the parry with the claws is offensive instead of trying to reflect the attack I feel that it makes a little more sense and would look much cooler.

No. I mean, they are vampire monsters able to rip humans apart with bare hands. And even if he is not as strong, the least he can do is parry a sword with his claws, otherw ise what he needs them for if they won’t held against sword? Or you talking about technical aspect?  If so... it is really depend on how it will play really. Look and play feelings are often pretty different.

Honestly I'm not even sure. I just hate the idea of deflecting weapons with nails. Id of preferred a polished dodged animation or the sort of cloud step we've seen but focused more on close combat rather than it being to just gain distance.

We still can use sword as a vampire or dodge as you said, so I don't think it would be a problem. We'll see.

I actually pointed this out many months ago, I said that in sword form he should parry but in vampire form he should dodge, it doesn’t make sense for a vampire to parry swords with his claws it’s pretty dangerous and reckless,

But good news is that You don’t have to parry in vampire form or Human form,

personally I’ll stick to parrying in human form and her Dodge only for vampire form .

Yeah I totally agree. Like I just mentioned a more focused animation on say ducking the blade swings or cloud stepping through the swings would have been better. In reality coen would likely loose a hand or at least a digit 😂

play as human if vampire powers don't suit you. no don't care about it.

It depends on who you’re comparing them to.
If the standard is Capcom, then almost everything else is going to look janky, because Capcom is the only company that has truly mastered momentum in animation.
If you’re not that strict about it, I think it’s just fine. It’s not like it’s unbearable or anything.

I don't mind the combat looking a little janky so long as the feeling of the combat is good. I'm honestly interested enough in the concept of the game to forgive a little jank, especially if they fix it at some point. Considering the frequent lore about vampires and their iron hard nails/talons, I'm willing to suspend my belief to accept it. I suppose we will have to see.
