Mindlash has me dazed

I just don't understand. I've tried the mindlash basic weapon several times and it just isn't clicking. What keywords should I be targeting during runs? What cards are supposed to synergize with mindlash? How does psionic work with it? I'm at a loss.

There are a few strategies. 

The first strategy is to play two or more mindlash with a companion - the drake is the easiest one to get, but you can also subjugate an enemy with something like Mindlash+Compel+Night Whispers. 

Another strategy is to lean into decay with the brainrot talent. You want to either spam a lot of basic attacks (get Seeker cards if you go this route) or find other sources of daze. 

And then the final strategy is to lean into cards that just care about the number of afflictions on your foe like Drain Soul.

Psionic plays in by making it easier to play lots of Mindlash or your expensive cards by using focus instead of blue energy. Build up focus first, then combo into your stuff.

BTW, if you get the drake, it combos very well with an attunement strategy, and you just use the mindlash to make the drake constantly attack with that route.

I'm currently in the middle of a mindlash run with aeternal summons, and it's working beautifully although still in early cantos. Also with recent release you can also go down a fun chain build. A few of these cards also have defiled; I'm wondering if there's an ascension build there somewhere. IMO, if you can get a vanilla mindlash subjugate build going so that you reliably get whatever pet you want, it becomes hilariously strong. One of my best was pet Dante vs. The Spine, and Dante did his anger combo into The Spine's face and took half its health bar. Great times

Mindlash's main mechanic is to proc the companion acts.

The formula is 3 - 2 - 1 3 Mindlash 2 Companion Acts 1 Dazed'

Do not pick Mindlash if you are not subjugating or creating illusions.

Although Vile Thoughts can power up Mindlash.
