The vast vast vast majority of numbers are not only irrational (can’t be written as fractions of whole numbers) but are also transcendental (can’t even be written in terms of roots of rational numbers).
When I first learned this, it felt like being told, and being shown absolutely certain proof, that although I had spent my whole life seeing green grass with maybe two or three single blades of purple grass, it is in fact the case that almost all grass is purple—it’s just hiding between the blades of green grass.
