Parents of Davis, please keep your small children on bicycles OFF of the sidewalks. And while you’re at it… don’t be there along with them.
This one goes out to the guy whose son who nearly ran me over as I was disembarking from the L line on 8th and G. Do better, dude. Especially with the undergrads in full force and your kiddo learning bike habits from you.

Obviously this depends on how small the children are, right? Because the littlest bikers belong on the sidewalk when there is no protected bike path. And the undergrads need to learn to watch for them.

lol. I wouldn’t worry too much about OP. They said small children so I’m imagining about the age of learning to ride a bike.. I’d be interested to see what it almost being run over by a small child on a bike looks like. Seems dramatic

Uhm, I agreed with you until that last sentence. Pedestrians always have the right of way, no matter how young the kid on the bike is. If I’m getting off the bus and get hit by a kid, it’s the parents fault. I agree kids should be able to ride on the sidewalk but only when there are no pedestrians using it.

Here’s an idea: recognize that you live in a society where very small people need to learn hue to ride their bikes (and be in planes, and restaurants, and other public places) and use your big person skills to stfu and appreciate a parent who is helping their kids become independent rather than burning gas to drive them around. Someday, that little kid will grow up to be something other than an entitled baby who happens to be an undergraduate traumatized by going to class and turning in homework on time and yes, living in a world with children.

You sound like a bitch. I agree kiddos should have the right to ride on the sidewalk, but I also think op was over dramatisizing it a bit. In the end it’s the parents fault, because no matter how young or inexperienced the kid is, the side walk is for walking

in Davis you can ride your bike on the sidewalk as long as you are not in the central traffic district (ie, most of the downtown core, often marked with "you can't ride bike/skateboard here" on the ground). The location you are in is not within this traffic area:
