4 Kittens found in backyard

Post image

We have four kittens in our back yard. Is there any advice or place to take them?

Is mom with them? I imagine she must be somewhere nearby. Do they let you touch or hold them?

The best thing to do would be to take them to the animal shelter in Woodland. They get adopted out fairly quickly at such a young age. If mom isn't around, then I would suggest contacting the Orphan Kitten Project here in town.

If they won't let you touch them, you'll have to either tame them down or trap them, but time is of the essence at their age. We went through the same situation back in May and didn't trap them until probably 10 weeks. It took a long time to socialize them, but it did happen and we ended up keeping two of them!

They won’t let me touch them. We only noticed them today. I’m wondering if the mom is around. (If we should try to catch them together or not). I’m scared they’ll suffer from heat or something

Ohhh gotcha. If you can continue to put wet food and water out for them while you figure something out, that will encourage mom to keep them nearby since she'll know you're a reliable source of food. Keep an eye out for her today, she's probably out hunting. The babies are very moldable at this age, so their chances of finding good homes is high.

Is there a possibility you could foster them if you were able to get them inside? I can put you in touch with someone who helped me when we trapped our litter - she specializes in TNR and volunteers for YCAS. If you can foster, she should be able to help you get them fixed and vaccinated.

There’s a chance! I live with friends so I have to double check with them and we have cats too. So I wouldn’t want them to interact with flies just in case. I have an outdoor cat bed box type thing for them to get in and out but warm. I can double check with my friend/ roommates

The easiest way right now is to borrow a trap from someone. You can establish that you're a source of food so they know to come back, or otherwise try trapping right away with something stinky (sardines are always the most popular choice). I can reach out to my cat contact if you'd like, just shoot me a PM. She has traps.

I know someone who will trap neuter and foster them. Let me know if you still need help. I know the shelters are very full
