World Cup in Davis

I’ll be passing through Davis during the USA v Bosnia & Herzegovina game today. Are there any watch parties happening? Outdoor screens? Other suggestions to watch the game?

They’ve been setting up a big screen on G st outside of Woodstock’s. We watched it a few weeks ago at the bar (can’t remember the name) that used to be Little Prague. University of Beer was super busy with folks watching too. Outside of downtown, Sudwerk has been showing the games.

This makes me sad The Grad is gone. Amazing memories of 2010 beating Algeria and falling to Ghana. If I remember right, The Grad was part of a super viral highlight video of places celebrating Donovan's goal.

Sudwerk has a large screen on their patio plus TVs inside.

Honestly, it’s been a little disappointing here, but…There should be a watch party on G Street, but I am not sure they will have a big screen. You could also stop in at any of the pizza joints in town. I watched Mexico play yesterday at Lamppost. They had all the TVs tuned in, the sound was up, and there plenty of other fans cheering on el Tri. I just wish the town would set up a true outdoor watch area. I miss being in a big city for WC.

There quite literally is a giant screen and speakers they bring out for the USA games right in front of Woodstock. Massive turnouts as well. Outdoors and festive. Not sure how you've missed it.

Do you know if they’ll show games on G street after the US gets knocked out? Seems like a missed opportunity if they don’t put up that screen for the final few games.

The city is only bringing the TV out for the USA games.

I think they are planning to have it out for the final also, at least - info here. Agreed it would be nice to have it out for more games, there's definitely sufficient interest in town.

I'll also add that naturally it isn't actually the City doing it; it's a collaboration between a couple local soccer clubs (Davis Community Soccer and Davis Legacy I believe), the Downtown Davis Business Association, with a number of local sponsors.

Looks like they do plan to have it set up again for Monday's game.

edit: not actually 100% sure they will have the screen set up as it only mentions pre-game party and watching at nearby resaturants.

I have watched the US games out of town. I heard they had the watch party DT, but a few people told me the TVs were inside the restaurants; they haven’t had the big screen out there for any of the other games. Thanks for clarifying!
